- A team of model train enthusiasts spent five years recreating Alloa Station in central Scotland, down to the finest detail.
The 34ft-long scale model was built from scratch by members of a Glasgow-based club.
More than 30 groups are part of the Association of Model Railway Societies in Scotland, which is set to hold its annual exhibition in Glasgow.

It’s nice to see a video about a small group of enthusiasts doing what they love, without some kind of social agenda. I couldn’t help but smile at these guys talking about their hobby. Their model is amazing too, I love the attention to detail.
Indeed. Just filming and documenting a well put together line with no overarching director driven agenda. Just pure investigative fun for the benefit of both parties.
I like making doll houses. I watched the clip 4 times. Liked it very much. Those men are very talented.
Shows what can be achieved with skill, time and patience... this is impressive
I'm a girl and I love model railways!
Everyone is welcome in the hobby!
Sg Kingly yup. Try joining a local Model Railway Society.
@@vik8218 i want to but i live in a very small village so i have not been able to find one yet. I am however part of a modelmaking group and volunteer at an air museum were we have a few more railway modellers there
I loved models when I was young, I loved going to exhibitions, and building my own set at home.
I went to loads of model railway exhibitions when I was younger too but I'm not into trains that much anymore
Hey I'm building my model railway at the stage or redeveloping it
Feel free to get in touch
Incredible detail! These sets could be used in movies!
I built my first model railway when I was about 15, now I am 57. It has taught me a lot of useful skills.
With such detail I could just stand there and look for hours on end! Love to have the space and time to have such a hobby myself!
Beautiful train layout project!
Great work, by great hobbyists!
Oof, I thought it was real until the camera exited the tunnel and the sky turned into wall and ceiling O~o
Perhaps they can help the train network in Britain be successful in real life
you never see a model rail enthusiast with a TGV or Bullet Train set up in Ultra Modern Futuristic situations, it's always, a sledge hammer to the senses of the early 1900's the Golden Era of Railroads. Every Fantasy is Different.
Good point. Would be great to see a modern bullet train set up. They have to exist somewhere.
I suggest if you like the modern version, do it 😃 I did a simplistic model of the modern railways but I sure would like to see a bullet train 🙂
@@milesblue638 It would be pretty much impossible to make them run at realistic speeds, because it'd be a literal train wreck everytime they encounter a curve!
@@scythal No one said anything about having them run at realistic speeds. I'm just agreeing that every miniature train set I have ever seen is either an old time locomotive or a diesel electric train and it would be nice to see something more modern.

5 Years?! Blimey, These Lads Did Put A Lot Of Time & Effort Into Creating Something That Every Young Rail Enthusiast Dreams Of!
This is the age of the train!
That's Jimmy Savile's slogan, Ahahah
I am going to report both of you for spamming
@Da Da SHUT UO FOR FUCK SAKE.
STOP SELF ADVERTISING YOURSELF ON A VIDEO LIKE THIS YOU FUCKBOY
Great work gents.
loved model trains since I was a kid, they have always fascinated me, ty
I'd love to go see it in person
Some quality content from the BBC
The detail replicated is fantastic, shame it wasn’t at model rail Scotland. Cheers Matt
The fact it *only* took them 5 years to achieve that level of detail is probably more impressive. 5 years is nothing when it comes to building model railways
Great innovation and land mark inventions mostly take time, persistence and execution on time.
Taking 5 or more years to complete is very common in the hobby.
A model railway is never finished
@@harrytodhunter5078
Very true!
*I would thank everyone for watching and to share my passion for trains with you*
Excellent model and article. Such a refreshing change to give some airtime to those in the hobby who do it purely for the love of making things and promoting high standards. Through this they must have a fuller sense of personal achievement and ultimately provide a truly meaningful encounter between hobbyist and observer. More of this please, less self promotion at the expense of quality modelling.
What a brilliant layout, could be the best in Britain.
It's so awesome!
An often overlooked hobby that requires craft skills. 🚂❤️
This is an art form
They are just outstanding.
Love from Indian railway
Very creative !!! 😍
Model railways is slowly getting more recognised
this is my dream toy when i was a kid now this my sons dream
Nice models
Labour of love ❤️
Simply wonderful
I Used to make whole Train System in the little resources I got
At the remote area of ASSAM(INDIA) ; Where my father was a Professor .
Whatever material I Could arrange ; it. Was the BEST accordingly .
I ♡♡♡ my Childhood as well as
Locomotive Engineering !
Shame a few people here are criticising this layout. It;s a club layout, therefore there will be elements of expertise from all who participated. I am still waiting for Rod Stewart's layout to be featured on television. However he is very private about it. He does it all on his own and his building skills are incredible. In fact he has two huge layouts, one at his home in the U.S and one in the U.K. He can also scratch build like the best. Roger Daltry is not far behind him.
Now this is epic
What the bbc don’t realise is that often layouts take over 10 years to build
Instead of feebay, there is Model Train Depo to the rescue!
Sheldon would love that.
Walt Disney was a train enthusiast & built a small theme park called Disneyland after pioneering the animated film production industry.
Interesting video!
Model rail enthusiast = his wife must be hell to live with :-D
Love from Germany 🇩🇪
Nothing compare to the "Miniatur Wunderland" in Hamburg, Germany
DreaMeRHoLic I was there ,incredible
Perhaps, but this has only been built by 3 men
Jasiel Rosas Almeida tfu what shit music is this?
There is no comparison. This is a fine-scale prototype based model railway depicting a specific location and time in history, whereas Miniatur Wunderland is just a novelty toy train set. A big one, granted, but a train set nevertheless.
I love this stuff. People been doing this for years. He's done a great job. But I really can't see why it's been broadcast as world news.
Rod Stewart loves this stuff too.
bbc isn't just world news, its the british broadcasting company first and mostly reports things on a local/national level. That's why we get localized feel good stories like this otherwise it would never attract attention
@@Shaniflewog it's primary duty is to provide world news.
@@paulgibbons2320 No, its a national public broadcasting service first, otherwise it would be called the WBC, It reports on British events first world events second, go look at the wikipedia
Your just been pedantic. Is it a world event or UK event. It's a magazine article at best. People have been building train sets for generations. Why are we getting one today?
Is there a lack of national or international news?
@@paulgibbons2320 This is simply a good feel news story to avoid all the bad news in the world at the moment, don't take it to heart mate, every country has news agencies that report on things that remind us that the world doesn't revolve around brexit/war/famine, the people of Britain can't be depressed constantly
ENGLISH SUBTITLES PLEASE
Amazing! Hats off to these guys for executing this wonderful model with so much passion and dedication. 👍
Sensacional !!!🇧🇷
Nice camera work from eye height
very cool!

I also did my small 2 x 4 N scale layout. hope you like.
Wow I wish I could own one of those toys 💝
Models ≠ toys
@@bigchap5794 Ouch sorry
I love train model 😘😘😘
I wish you put captions
Window photo Railway station!
I wish it was my job. I wish it even now.
You do know you can make this at home right, it just requires skill and precision (and also money)
Cool
Not too sure why it's on bbc news - just look at miniatur wunderland
Did you have to account for the curvature of the earth in your model as the current train tracks are laid. Apparently London to Manchester climbs significantly uphill all the way.
Rosman
Secretly, all of us modellers are flat earthers as we build on flat boards
@@JamesSmith-zv9nw Great answer :)
Amazing
only 5?
Need RC Godzilla with flamethrower mouth now
Don't call it a train set, apparently Rod Stewart gets peeved if you do.
very nice layout you got there .Thumbs up for you .Hope you like mine diesel dave's

Some one's found complete disassociation from life. Most things do seem like an unnecessary chore.
not unusual
Why not just build a real one lol
Yeah that's right stfu
My layout is a rotten piece of shit compared to this scale master piece
BBC “News” 🙄
Ummmmm okeyyyyy
Holy shit JT why are you here
These blokes do this because they can’t stand their wives. I’m not kidding!
This is what marridge does to a man 😂
