In direct contrast to René Guénon, Evola believed that Theravada Buddhism had more perfectly preserved the original Tradition and that Mahayana Buddhism was a mere corruption, which had lost the original hierarchical aspects which he regarded as fundamental to the essential meaning of Buddhism.
