I'll do another video in a bit about all the reasons why you SHOULD pursue a career as a distiller because it is a pretty cool job despite all the drawbacks I mention here.
@@MissBrewbird I would do it but after my next run, I could only speak from the United States cause that's where Im a licensed distillery. I know you interviewed silver fox from the Canadian side. Rules with TTB and States are different. Let me know
I actually drink LESS now that I've become a distiller. Having to taste/drink spirits early in the morning as part of my job has put me right off it! haha
As an old retired guy I am not looking for a new career. Your career on the other hand has been fascinating to track. I hope you are enjoying what you are doing here and your channel grows and grows. Thank you, Brewbird, great content!
Thank goodness, I own the distillery, lol and work all the time...Black Momma Vodka but I drink less as the owner xoxox but Iove it . Master Distiller, Vanessa Braxton
Distillery operator here Mostly very spot on. I make $25/hr on 12 hour night shifts after 1 year. Some smaller places will be $22/hr and larger distilleries as high as $30/35/hr for veterans. Equipment is very loud and it’s extremely hot in the summer but usually pretty bearable. It’s a “recession proof” industry, and I wouldn’t do anything else without a fat raise. You generally don’t have to have a degree unless you work in R&D or management 👍🏼
Best job I ever had. Looking into getting the IBD diploma in distilling. In my experience she is 100% spot on but I love my job for the first time in my life.
Fantastic - similar to pros/cons of emergency service veterinarian. Long hours, shite pay, tendency to have a few too many sips when on duty. Client interactions plus or minus. Distillers don't get bitten by rottweilers, or kicked by distressed horses, 😀
@@MissBrewbird You have it worse in Cannuckistanutopia, -30C outside in the depth of winter. I live in Cairns, tropics, where the yeast buds are always doing their job 😀
I had to laugh because before watching the video I was thinking it must be pretty bad. After watching I'm thinking eazy peazy. I have a full time job but I would like to work part time at a distillery to learn from to up my craft at home.

What about opening your own craft distillery
Oh for sure, I just have to find a distillery owner who is willing to talk on camera about the ins and outs of opening a distillery

That's exactly what happened to me! 😆

As a pretty new distiller here in Myken, I must say I agree with all your points. On the other hand, there's an overwhelming amount of buts too :)
Wow, so cool to see you here. Yes there are positives and negatives to every job of course.
Thanks. This was interesting. Despite the drawbacks you listed, being a distiller still sounds like a lot of fun.
For me at our distillery, only 10% of the work is actually distilling. The majority is cleaning and clerical stuff.
It is a pretty cool job, I'll probably make another video with a list of reasons why you should work as a distiller later on.
Good point, I should have mentioned that as well

Haha, never thought distilling had so much in common with veterinary care

I recognize that river, is that Edmonton? Haha
It is some stock footage I found online. It might be Edmonton.
lol, this whole video can be summarised as "it's warehouse work +spirits"
I was on board until it got to the pay part!
This sounded like a IT Datacenter worker.... had to relook at the title and thinking about the similarities.

Good job
Too late already 😩

So you are stating is not a female type of employment 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
I didn't say that, you said it.
@@MissBrewbird 😜😅 just kidding!
Have a happy new year!
@@MissBrewbird I thought you were thinking about it? 😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
What you are talking about is called hard honest work. Probably not the right job for you.
Thanks for supporting the channel by commenting😜
@@MissBrewbird you are very welcome, happy to help. You’d be a bad distiller if you couldn’t handle some criticism.
I hate hard honest work. It's the biggest reason why I chose to become a teacher.
