I installed a whole house surge protector in my main breaker panel after losing my furnace blower motor to a huge power surge.

How did you power indoor unit without connecting outdoor unit? Indoor unit is powered by outdoor unit.
Indoor unit can be powered on without the outdoor unit attached to it.

No it will not communicate with an outdoor from different brand. Unless and untill the circuit boards used in the outdoor units are the same.

Ok i found it, E5 is the communication error in Della mini split, well could be a problem with the wire or the control board on the outdoor unit.
