6 and 9 threw me off cause stylistically, they have the essence of the Early-Mid Classical era. Like, the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the sixth piece is "Oh, that sounds similar to Haydn stylistically."
In some state music exams, they list Beethoven as a classical composer and as the other comments have already mentioned, his early work are very much in style of the classical era.
Early Beethoven like the F minor sonata played in the video is certainly in the classical era style. Take the Flute Sonata in Bb WoO Anh. 4 for instance, written between 2 years before and 2 years after Mozart's death. That's as classical era as you can get in Beethoven, a very Mozartian piece(Although I don't think Mozart would have used a polonaise as the dance movement and Beethoven does use a polonaise as the dance movement in the Flute Sonata). The earliest hints of his Romantic style can be found in the Pathetique Sonata, especially the First Movement(returning slow introductory material after an Allegro in a sonata is not a very classical era thing to do). But it doesn't become a "Beethoven is Romantic unless he's not" thing until the Eroica symphony. And Beethoven also has the thematic economy and motivic development that is a common feature of Baroque era music. He's one of those composers that can be described as a synthesis of styles, much like how Bach is a synthesis of the Italian, French, and German Baroque styles and how Liszt is a synthesis of Chopinesque lyricism and Beethovenian bombast.

Thank you thank you thank you!
Agreed, it would be nice to have a list of who and what.
But an excellent idea, and video.
I got them all!! 🎉 number 9 if you listen is contrapuntal which was the core of the Baroque period.
6 and 9 threw me off cause stylistically, they have the essence of the Early-Mid Classical era. Like, the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the sixth piece is "Oh, that sounds similar to Haydn stylistically."
This makes the video so easier when i almost knew all pieces except for contemporary music
Thank you! Maybe give us composer and title of the piece the next time tho. Great video still
Yes! For Pete’s sake!
That defeats the purpose of the listing test because you already know the composition 🙄
@@rorygarner9427no, it shows who the composer is at the same time as the era
I can always tell if it's the top two boxes or the bottom two. That's as close as it gets for now. Sometimes, I know the exact option.
Thank you for such a great video!
Composers and titles would be a really useful addition.

I am so sad, I only failed 9, I thought it was late classical even maybe early romantic, that’s such an avantgarde piece
I thought 9 was classical era too! It sounded much like Mozart's style to my ears. I also thought 6 sounded like Early-Mid Classical.

'Un sospiro' by Franz Liszt.

Schumann Kinderszenen, Op. 15: No 7
It’s called “ Traeumerei”, or “Dreaming.”
Beethoven shouldn't be listed under classical
He spanned both the classical and romantic eras. Even his romantic era music contains a lot of classical structures.
you can make an argument that the late works are not classical, but that piece is an early work and absolutely in the classical style.
In some state music exams, they list Beethoven as a classical composer and as the other comments have already mentioned, his early work are very much in style of the classical era.
