Actually Binka, The Maniacs were covering a Patti Smith/Bruce Springsteen tune here, just as they did with Natalie on MTV Unplugged 20 years ago. Mary Ramsey played viola on that version too. Of course, she also knows how to pronounce the word "descends".
This is a classic song. Could be 50 years old. Wonder what kind of camera was used and what kind of trick could have dampened the static. Love skinny but pray and hope that Natalie made it through her extreme skinny stage and is doing well. Could she have been introduced to cocaine be some nefarious code dealer and her creativity has been waning.
Natalie WAS a presence not many singers can deliver vocals and emote . She was uniquely classic. This singer has the stage presence of a lamp post GREAT voice though. .
Nat did a fine job as lead singer, of course. But I thought she was almost too much of a presence for a refined band as 10k Maniacs. I prefer Mary in the lead, actually.

In all her time with 10KM, Natalie wrote exactly one song. After she left, she wrote a couple of albums that sounded just like 10000 Maniacs. Yeah,I guess you might call it her "own thing" if you are talking about her bank account but staying the same is not the same as evolving,is it?
