@@TonyWhiteMusic Absolutely. You are very talented. This song is a celebration. Merchant and Stipe are amazing, and your solo took it to another level still. It's only bittersweet as we mourn the loss of Sidney Poitier. But what a tribute in its own way. Thank you for a brilliant arrangement and performance, Tony.
Oh how I miss the bands of the 80s. There was some magical element about so many of them. Hope, encouragement, laughter, hurting, love, etc. in so many songs.
Brings back memories of leaving High School .. couldn't wait to get the HELL out of that town and away from all the in-group dickheads .. I packed my junker car with everything I owned, so I could leave town right after the graduation ceremony.... and never went back.
Sinceridade?
Wow-I saw this movie in the theatre when I was very young-I'll never forget it or this beautiful song. Very nice arrangement and performance! First time hearing it!
Boa noite.
I'm a slave to first impressions. The way Lulu's vocals just soared and reaches right down into your psyche is burned into me. There is one current vocalist I'd live to hear take on this song though - Adele
Are there words to describe the beauty of this? If so they fail elude me. Natalie Merchant's voice is not of this world, she singly sounds like the voice of a thousand angels singing a song so sweet human ears can not comprehend it.
edwoll77 Well, sorta, lol... he actually dated Natalie in the early 80s. ☺️🤷🏻♀️ They started as friends but it turned into having romantic feelings toward each other. For a long time he didn’t identify as anything because he was attracted to both sexes. Later he was asked about identifying as gay, he said “I don't. I think there's a line drawn between gay and queer, and for me, queer describes something that's more inclusive of the grey areas." He’s had long relationships with men, but it seems as though women will never be “off the table”. 😉
My buddy used to pay Natalies band (10,000 maniacs) about $150/night for 4 sets a night in his bar. He loved to tell people that all the time. It was around 1980.
Rob FC I know you're listening to this song in heaven. The perfect combination of the music you so beautifully introduced me to when we were young and your own journey as a beloved talented teacher.
The Vaccine Reaper Report just attached this song on an article. In memory of my English teacher Professor Imelda Cannon, and Professor Tina Blue I'm searching for you. I hope you're still alive.
Thank you for posting this. I arranged this and I am the Sax player in the middle. This was a GREAT night for us all.
Well done, sir!!

Rest in peace Sidney Poitier a beautiful soul who's existence made this world a much better place.
No “new” artists today can even touch this level of artistry. Not to mention live doing a classic and making it sound fresh!
Please God, bring back this kind of music.
Concordo totalmente.
Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe are two of the most gorgeous and talented humans in the world. I love them both dearly.
I only heard this song for the first time earlier this year. Now, I just can't get enough of it,
Two great singers and song writers. They wrote about real life, but in a way that made you want to sing and dance. They are rare talents.
1993. We've slipped a bit since then.
Amen brother. The 90s were so beautiful
I'll say it sucks now
Never thought anyone could match Lulu on this song, but this is so beautiful it's mind-boggling!! Yes we've definitely slipped since then..😰

Just a tad
Perfect duo for one of the most beautiful songs ever. They did it justice.
Two of the best alt college rock bands of all ti.e, REM, 10,000 Maniacs
%100correctsir!
1000% correct!!!
i was lucky enough to see them together many yrs ago
I miss the 90's. WHAT A DECADE for music!!! And two of the best male and female vocalists EVER!!
I agree!! 👍🏻
Two of the most unique voices of the 90s. Nice upload!
No question. I love how they both incorporated their distinct cadence and phrasing signatures. Simple elegance.
The 90's were the peak post-war decade. Something about them was special.
I'm a 59 yr old metalhead. This was fuckin phenominal.

Absolutely magical. I have always loved these two artists. Hated their politics but loved loved them.
You nailed it! Ditto on BOTH! 🙂

Sidney Poitier, you are the Sir to so many of us! Rest in peace.
🙏😍
Jack Levin I know, he really was! 😭😭😭
This was awesome, two of my favourites singing a song from one of my all time favourite movies. ❤❤
Epic. Epic. Epic. The film was the one of the greatest ever made, not just in the '60s, but ever. It changed me.
It's just not fair for a woman to be that gorgeous and have such an amazing voice. Natalie was one of a kind.
Was one of a kind? Did she retire?
@@phishbill I think another person who is gorgeous with amazing voice appeared . Gotta catch'em all.
That's usually the way it goes.

Good music never dies
Funny. I'm retiring form teaching after 32 years. The movie helped push me into teaching. Best choice of my life.
Love this version! The original version, sung by Lulu, was the best-selling single in the US in 1967.
Why have I never seen this? Natalie went to my high school. Her brother used to make lunch for me (at his restaurant). Wow!
It just doesn't get any better than this.
Pure 90s
Oh, Natalie, what a voice...
Oh Natalie....!!!!!!!
I clicked on comments to post this exact exclamation. Cheers to you Mauro

YES ! Myself as well. My great aunt took me. I was 8. I was mesmerized by Sydney P and developed my first crush on a celebrity. 🥰
I’d love to hear Rob Halford and Paul Di’anno sing this. Seriously.
Excellent version of my favorite song
The 90’s peaked right here.
Such a great song
One of the best pop songs ever written/performed. Love the way the outro refrain was repeated here !!!###
Absolutely beautiful
The song is so beautiful gives me chills.
Two beautiful souls with the most beautiful voices
One of the greatest songs ever, beautifully performed by Natalie and Michael. I'm sure Lulu loved this.
Incredible!!
Beautifully done. I thought how can it compare with LuLu. But, just lovely. Please, see this movie again.
I. LIKE. BOTH. SINGERS. HERE. !!!

How well they compliment each other. What a lovely couple they make.
I don't know if you know this, but Michael Stipe plays for the other team.

Rewind time.....music was so good and life seemed simple....15
Gorgeous joyous version, I love it.
I’m here because of the passing of Sidney Portia
I remember a time, a time long ago, when they said Michael Stipe couldn't sing - he just mumbles.
Tremendo, no me canso de escucharlos!
Beautiful.
