    On "My Car Story" we're in Burr Ridge IL on 9-13-19 at the Corvette Mike Midwest
    We're looking at a 1958 Chevrolet Chevy Impala Convertible in Onyx Black Paint. The engine is a factory original fuel injected 283 (cubic inch) CI 250 Horse Power HP. This restored car looks brand new as if it just came off the showroom floor in 1958.
    We’re talking with Bill Kotzum, of Corvette Mike Midwest. The company is located at 60 Shore Drive, Burr Ridge, IL 60527 who sells Corvettes.
    If you’re interested in purchasing a Corvette, call Bill at the office # 1-630-230-0441. Or go to www.corvettemikemidwest.com

    I remember seeing a '57 Chevy 150 coupe in the now-defunct MuscleCars magazine with the 283/250. My late uncle had a turquoise '57 Bel Air with a 283 4V. Did we ever get attention cruising around in that beauty back when I was a teenager. I felt like a boss!! : D

    Lou this is indeed a rare piece of Chevrolet history. The only one I know of that is even more of a rare bird is a red 58 convertible with a tri power 348 that has an original Borg Warner 4 speed trans. That car was locally owned in Bucks County PA in 2015.

      This car is amazing. The Impala in 1958 was a deluxe model that appeared to be more upscale than the 59s 60s and so on that followed it. This almost fully loaded 58 convertible probably stickered out at slightly over $4000 when new considering the power options wonderland radio and all the other goodies this car was equipped with. A very welcome and unusual find! Thanks Lou.

    • @nomebear
      @nomebear 5 лет назад +1

      The 'O' rings were a constant problem because of the material they were composed of easily deteriorated. In the 60's I had to push one of these Rochester fuel injected tanks to get it started in the morning. Once started, it would start all day, but in the mornings the fuel drained from the injection system overnight.

    Great car presentation, Lou! Takes me back. I was sooooo disappointed when the '58 came out. I was only 11-years-old, but had pedaled my bicycle down to the local Chevy dealer to see it the day they came out. They had been teasing everyone on TV with one under a big white sheet, promising the moon, of course. Rode up to the showroom window, and there was the rear end of a yellow (Colonial Cream") convertible staring me in the face. My heart sank. It just didn't compare to my big brother's '57 Chevy that he'd bought the year before. But now that I'm older and wiser, I have grown to love them. Thanks for posting! All the best, Lou. And STAY HEALTHY! ---Jim in Cleveland

    Lesser known than the solid lifter 283/283 horse, there was also a 250 hp hydraulic cam version of the fuelie. Not sure how many were made/sold in that version as you seldom hear about them. Love it, the first year for the Impala. Of all the little design details, one thing I've never heard anyone mention are the front turn signals on the 1958. Given GM's love of aviation motif's in the 1950's, I think they modeled those lights on the paired engine nacelles of the B-52 and B-47 bombers. They even copied the strut between them. One question: did it have a Turbo-Glide or Power-Glide?

    • @dnanestrau
      @dnanestrau 5 лет назад

      Looks like a Powerglide as it has "L" as the last position on the shift quadrant instead of "Gr" which is what the Turboglide would have.

      Lou: my thoughts exactly. You can't mistake the legendary Harley Earl design. The "fuely" as all fuel injection GM models of the era were called came in two different power ratings. This one is the base version at 250hp. The "hi perf" version was for the Corvette only where the "Duntov" cam was installed. This 283 V8 had a matching 283hp @ around 5600 rpm. I didn't realize an automatic transmission was available on a fuely. Oh well you learn something new everyday. Gr8 owner and car nevertheless. Have a wonderful God blessed day.

    The exhaust vent on the side was stock on the car it was ornamental. The dual headlights were featured on some 57 cars but didn't become legal in all 50 states until the 1958 model year. Some of the 1957 that had dual headlights had single headlights in the states that they were not legal yet. A prime example of this was the 57 Chrysler.

    Best looking 58 Impala I've ever seen to date as perfect symmetry of design makes this a mechanical work of art. The methodic detailed design carries into the interior.
    It's amazing how the Europeans caught on to this years later and have surpassed American automotive design today. Here's what happened to America's automotive industry,. As Its become to complacent and has became more of a bland cookie cutter copy each other design minimalist industry.
