Of all the classics restored or modified nothing beats an original. Love that car. Beautiful. Truly the finest. When I was a kid in the 70’s I worked in my uncles wrecking yard. And I remember so many old chevys. He had a silver nomad that I wanted so bad. But I was only 12.

One year only styling after the tri-fives. When cars were classy and the interiors were colorful works of art. Great choice Lou, great job Mr.Nagel with your baby. Looks stunning!
Thanks for the 1958 Chevy Impala Convertible. In those days the car sales job was a great experience for both the sales person and the customer. Art designed luxury, combination of car color and interior fabric, many options, etc. This was high quality dedication to please the customer. The smooth ride made the Impala the top luxury experience of Chevrolet. Nothing like a ride on an Impala! Congratulations.

The A/C was inoperable. The belt was laid on loose for looks at first, then taken off before engine was started. I wonder if it was due to a bad compressor or clutch, because if the compressor pulley will freewheel then you can leave the belt on even if the A/C system is inoperable.

Another nice one from Mr. Nagel! Plenty of chrome, a convertible top, and tri power, too. The sun always seems to shine with you guys visit. What a treat. Thanks, Lou!
Competitive model to the newly released Edsel. Touted as one truly new car for 58 to set the owner above the look alike cars. But Chevrolet took the sales honors and would soon release the 409 engine package with a very distinctive idle burbling sound. Great work Lou,, just the best!
Gotta LOVE this Wheeled Sled! It's a chrome lover's dream come true! As I have always said, "You can never, never, have enough chrome!" Ever since just now., I have always said that! This car is the same year as meeeee! My ultimate dream car is a 1958 Chevy Impala, naturally. Only with a hardtop. WHOA! This has to be the most option loaded 1958 Chevrolet Impala I have seen so far. It has every possible option on it. The 348 engine sounds healthy, and the Roman Red paint job makes this example stand out in the crowd. 1958 was an odd year, and with it being a one year only car, that's why they are so extremely rare. What a beautiful convertible this one is. You sure know how to find some awesome cars Lou! Keep it up!

Lou, without a doubt this is one of the nicest 58 ragtops I have ever seen .it is loaded with all the options available at the time. A real time capsule. My second car was a 58 in 1962 it was Artic White and Serria Gold.
Absolutely freakin awesome !!!!! My Dad had a 54,61 and a 68. My brother had a 56 and 61 then my uncle had a 58. The 58 was my favorite, but I have never seen one with this many options !!!! Chevy perfection !!!!
Incredible restoration of a very special historic Chevrolet that's literally not missing a single thing. Driver and passengers are treated to a beautiful interior. Another great video Lou. Beautiful 58 Impala. My Aunt and Uncle had a Red 58 Impala convertible just like it bought it used in 1962. It was a tri power car also. but no continental kit. They traded it in on a new 1966 Chevy Chevelle SS 396 4 speed. The dealership gave them 500 dollars trade in for the Impala convertible. The dealers said that was all the car was worth.
Hi, Lou! 1958 was a recession year when all U.S. brands except Rambler suffered major sales losses. Chevrolet was not immune, but with the Impala, it was the birth of what would shortly thereafter become the best-selling car in America for many years hence. I don't know if Chevy brass knew what a goldmine it was going to be for them, but it was certainly no accident. I think it was simply the concept of a stylish and luxurious car for the price of a Chevrolet that made it such a great buy. In its first year, the Impala was a sub-series within the Bel Air range offered only in two-door hardtop and convertible form. In 1959, a four-door sedan and four-door hardtop were added and the Impala took over as a flagship series in its own right, and the rest, as they say, is history. Ken is very fortunate to not only have one of Chevy's greatest milestone cars, but one with everything you could order on it, and in Rio Red to boot! He sure knows how to pick 'em! Thanks, Lou, for presenting yet another amazing Ken Nagel car and letting us experience excitement on wheels!
Hi iswc27, Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My pleasure sharing this car with you. Glad to have you along to "experience excitement on wheels!" :-) Lou
Looking at the automotive specimen and you are forced to be transported in time and imagine and feel the experience of those times. Just traveling time capsules or rather personal time machines. Those cars captured your imagination and held it then as they still do today.
Whoever ordered this from GM must have been a real dude.I'm from this era & lived in N E Ohio,I never saw upscale versions like this.I can see this in a parade w/ beautiful woman sitting on the top of the back seat.Love the brochures too!
Another great presentation, Lou! Lee Iacocca once said that air conditioning and stereo killed the convertible in 1976. "Neither one makes sense if you're driving around without a roof," he said. So I can only imagine how rare in 1958 a convertible with air conditioning was! Even the 1957 Bonneville, which boasted being fully optioned, issued very few examples with air conditioning.
Thank you Albert for the kind words on the presentation :-) I appreciate that. My pleasure sharing this car with you, and thank you for share the details you enjoy, Lou
Indeed they are. Just about any 50's convertible with factory AC is a rare car. I have a '57 Ford "Skyliner", the retractable hardtop. And it is factory AC. I have yet to witness another and the only ones I've heard of are selling for big money fully restored at high tier auctions.
Nice car. My first car was a 58 Chevy Del Rey with a 6 and three on the tree. I payed $35 for it when I was 15 in 1970. It even ran great and looked good. Then sold it to my uncle and he painted it blue with a white roof, my father said it looked like a Mexican taxi cab. Sold it to my uncle for $65. Some might remember, in the early '70s you could buy these cars from the '50s for around $150. Had 57 Ranchero I got for $150. Got a 50 GMC pickup for $185, he wanted $200 and it ran.
awesome lou, love the color to, a shame color schemes don't exist today like they did back then, now all we get is dull, drab grey interiors, with not much for exterior choices either. too bad those days are gone, but glad to see the survivors of the time!! thanx!
Hi Mouse, Happy to receive an "awesome" from you :-) Although those days are gone, this Channel will keep those memories for you and I to enjoy. You're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile your videos are always remarkable, you are truly the master of detail. One of the really great things about your videos you have a lot of cars and the details to go with them that I have never seen. I've seen 58 Impalas a bunch of them, but I don't think I've ever seen one that fancy, very very nice.
Once again Big Lou great content an a beautiful vehicle you know I'm a rag top man you never let me down big guy keep up the excellent work Big Lou 👌👌👌👌👌👌
With its front end similar to “Cadillac,” it was known as a “baby” Cadillac. Unusual “loose” belt driving the air conditioning compressor. Excellent restoration work done on it, with a host of unusual options for a Chevrolet. Thanks for sharing, Lou!
Thank you, Ken and Lou. Wonderful Impala, I had one in Cashmere blue with a Whitetop and the 348 Engine. Note: on Ken's car, I noticed his transmission is the rare Turboglide automatic which functions like the Buick Dynaflow transmission.
Hi Chris, Happy to read you enjoy this "wonderful" car :-) Glad to read you had a blue one too. Like this one? Lou ruclips.net/video/yJS7j_BqfiQ/видео.html
I wonder if it still has the Turboglide transmission. I noticed the quadrant has the Turboglide P-R-N-D-(Gr)enade selection, and there are no snippets of driving video where you'd hear the Powerglide shift from low to direct, so it's a mystery. As was said in another comment, if this car wasn't converted to Powerglide, it would be insanely rare. The '57-'58 Turboglides used cone clutches while the '59-'61 used multiplate clutches. Parts for those old cone clutch versions have been gone for half a century.

Ken and his 58 Impala. Both one of a kinds. Seeing so many options on this car was interesting. Especially the vacuum and mason jar ash tray. I wonder when the Caprice Classic came into play? I'll have to google that. Thanks, Lou!
I was in 11th grade when this came out. I can still remember the awe I had when I first saw the exquisite beauty of this car. At that time I didn’t think anything could outdo the beauty of the ‘57. But here this was!! Totally new and different. And it was the ONLY YEAR GM cars had this body. A truly unique car. I have 5 models of this car.

Lou, you didn't mention if this car had air ride. An only one year option. Was really expensive and not many cars had it. I met a guy who had it on a Biscayne and it still worked. Most got replaced by springs caused the air bags would cause all kinds of problems.

This is my dream car. I have always loved the 58. I think the smooth corners and smooth lines make this a very unique car of its time. Most people like the57 for it being a lightweight Hot Rod. I like the idea of a cruising car as to The racing type street car.

Hi Gary, Thank you for sharing you know the previous Owner. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) This Buick? Lou ruclips.net/video/QI0yNkJ8FK0/видео.html
Thats a nice piece of preserved automotive history as Ken said they didn't make many of the tri-power Impalas. Always look forward anytime you profile one of his cars. The colour looks like the same as the 2003 Thunderbird you profiled from Dennis's collection. Great video Lou.
The car looks to be Rio red, I noticed the car doesn't have the Level Air suspension. Many people had that option replaced. That vacuum ash try is a rare piece
Lou, I've restored three of those 348 tri-power convertibles '58 Impala cars. Two were black and one was blue. Two had most all options. Both black cars were 4 speeds. The blue one had A/T. BTW, the two black cars had less than 40k miles on them. The blue car had 70k miles on it.
@@loucostabile You'd likely be amazed at the various vehicles that I/we have restored over the last 30+ years. One being a 1953 Daimler roadster. Two identical 1937 Ford Phaeton convertibles. Both dark green. One was 100% stock and the other had a J2 Oldsmobile engine and more modern drivetrain, brakes, etc. I/we bought an all options red/black 1970 LS6 Chevelle SS convertible that had 34k miles on it. I/we bought it from an estate auction for $30k. It didn't need much to restore it. 6 months later, we sold it to Reggie Jackson (former MLB player) for $80k. He later sent it through auction in Scottsdale AZ and sold it for $130k.
Very nicely done car. They did not come out of the factory with that long chrome/stainless bullet streak down the length lining up at the door cuts as accurate as that. The dual fours would be a better set-up than the progressive linkaged triple two barrels as with only the center carb feeding the engine at less than highway speeds the furthest cylinders tended to run lean and hotter, frequently melting holes in the tops of those pistons. The other option not mentioned was the air ride with a knob over there on the right end of the dash beside the speaker fader that adjusted the ride height. I noticed he removed the A/C drive belt for the road part of the vid.

Mr. costabile.. thanks for uploading these great videos, this Chevrolet is, by far one of my favorites..also the '64..'67..and '70..have driven them.. excellent handling and great suspension systems.

Hi PlymouthDuster225, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Aunt & Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I just love the different styles of tops older cars had! There were so many good options.
Thank you for sharing the details you enjoy :-)
Imo...1955, 56, 57 and 58 was Chevys grand slam. Beautiful car! Thanks to Lou and Mr Nagel.
Hi Tom, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Looking at the automotive specimen and you are forced to be transported in time and imagine and feel the experience of those times. Just traveling time capsules or rather personal time machines. Those cars captured your imagination and held it then as they still do today.
Hi T Hyslop, Happy to read you enjoy this journey back to 1958 :-) Lou
Whoever ordered this from GM must have been a real dude.I'm from this era & lived in N E Ohio,I never saw upscale versions like this.I can see this in a parade w/ beautiful woman sitting on the top of the back seat.Love the brochures too!
HI Richard, Happy to read your thoughts on this car. and glad to read you enjoy the brochures too :-) Lou

Dealer: What options would you like to order on your car?
Buyer: EVERY single one 😂
You're right :-)
The 58 chevy is in great condition, a realy great car.

Hi Philip, Happy to read you enjoy this "great car" :-) Lou
My Aunt DeeDee had a car this color and, at 8, i thought it was beyond glamorous!
Hi Brock, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Aunt's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The 58 Chevy was not my favorite style, but boy is this thing loaded with options. I absolutely love it.
Happy to read this is a favorite of yours :-)
Hi Joe, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

awesome lou, love the color to, a shame color schemes don't exist today like they did back then, now all we get is dull, drab grey interiors, with not much for exterior choices either. too bad those days are gone, but glad to see the survivors of the time!! thanx!
Hi Mouse, Happy to receive an "awesome" from you :-) Although those days are gone, this Channel will keep those memories for you and I to enjoy. You're welcome, Lou
That's too bad that they only made that one year, I always thought that was one of Chevy's top five best looking designs.
Hi Bill, Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile your videos are always remarkable, you are truly the master of detail. One of the really great things about your videos you have a lot of cars and the details to go with them that I have never seen. I've seen 58 Impalas a bunch of them, but I don't think I've ever seen one that fancy, very very nice.
Another fabulous car by Lou!
Thank you Jeffrey :-)

Appreciate the kind encouraging words on this video :-)
With its front end similar to “Cadillac,” it was known as a “baby” Cadillac. Unusual “loose” belt driving the air conditioning compressor. Excellent restoration work done on it, with a host of unusual options for a Chevrolet. Thanks for sharing, Lou!
Hi Fred, Thank you for viewing, and sharing your knowledge. My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
This car just oozes class!! Love it!!
NICE !
I remember an exact duplicate of this car, in the showroom at Sands Chevrolet in the Phoenix, AZ area, about 2014
Hi Bryan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the AZ car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

A wonderful presentation of a magnificent car. The 58s look as if they were carved out of a solid piece of steel. Built like a tank!

Super underrated 58' Impala next to the 57' Bel-Air completely the opposite body style make no mistake 58' is a CREAM PUFF

I personally know the previous owner of this car! He did all the research to make this car back to original. He is a great guy. So glad you are enjoying it. Just absolutely gorgeous. Do you still have the Buick?

Thats a nice piece of preserved automotive history as Ken said they didn't make many of the tri-power Impalas. Always look forward anytime you profile one of his cars. The colour looks like the same as the 2003 Thunderbird you profiled from Dennis's collection.
Great video Lou.
Hi AllanK Quon, High praise :-) You're right one the color matching the 2003 Thunderbird. Appreciate the kind words on this video, Lou
The car looks to be Rio red, I noticed the car doesn't have the Level Air suspension. Many people had that option replaced. That vacuum ash try is a rare piece

I agree! When advertising was also works of art; drawings & paintings just for a brochure.
Wow if there ever was a car that left me speechless, this was it. Not a huge fan of 58 Impalas but that is off the charts beautiful.
Hi Michael, "Wow if there ever was a car that left me speechless, this was it." NICE! Lou
Cool 😎 original 58 brochures too!!

You're had a lot of experience with this year Impala. Thank you for sharing Sergeant Masson

If it really works, better than having the ashes blowing out of the ash tray when the top is down.
