So I believe this was supposed to 3 years ago but RUclips likes to keep throwing your video up on my screen. I'm in awe of the craftsmanship of people who do these restorations. Obviously it must be a lucrative business. Thanks again my friend for another wonderful adventure
Hi David, Hmmm, that is interesting why RUclips is sharing some of my older videos, however I guess that is a good thing. My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
What a wonderful old Chevy! My my really pretty and it sounded healthy! Love this I was just a year old when this was made! Thanks for sharing your story Lou!

Wow sounds about right, Lou! Power everything and the paint & chrome look great, too. This beauty is going to sell fast. I hope you get your top down cruise with the new owner!
Ran across another one of your 1959 Chevrolet videos Lou, and this one is a beauty! Tuxedo Black with red interior! A red top would've set it off rather than the white convertible top. Powered by a 348 tri-power big block with 3-speed Turboglide automatic transmission. It also has the power steering/generator combination unit which was the last year for that configuration. In 1960 they introduced the "Pear" shaped power steering pump that was used up until 1995. I have a love affair with the 1959 Chevrolet, no matter what model. I even love the Grocery Getter station wagons of that year!
What an amazing car! I love the backend...the horizontal wings with those taillights just make it look badass. The dash is also amazing how the components are all set back in. My friend has a 1958 and we will be interviewing her soon about hers...I'll have to watch for some of the details you pointed out here.
I really enjoy seeing these classis, Lou. The cars are fantastic and bring back so many memories of the 50s & 60s for me. My dad was a Buick man. I was wondering why I haven't seen any 59 Buicks. Dad had one and we really loved it. Would sure like to see one in this kind of condition if you can find one.

Lou:This is the pinnacle of the 50's. This was sometimes refered to as the"baby caddy". Man is THIS a stunning beauty of a car! Wow if I could I'd buy this in a New York minute. Have a great day and happy holidays.
Hi Lou! I don’t know how I missed this one. The 1957, 1958, and 1959 Chevys were Worlds apart from each other. Compared to the 57 Chevy the 1958 Looked like a Modern low cost Caddy from the front end. Then in 1959 Another complete Change to lower longer more Streamlined. The windscreen alone on the 1959 is a WOW. The Large Displacement 348 cu.in. Three 2 barrels engine is a WOW. The Carpeting WOW. I could go on. I never thought I would miss the sounds of the Exhaust from a running engine before 1975.

At 14:00 I panicked when I saw the 3 speed automatic. Thx for explaining. I'm surprised they found an appearance correct selector gauge. its a 59 chevy with the original big block 348 (a very rare poorly designed engine) paired with a mid to late 60s automatic 3 speed. The 348 is not bogged down by all the power options the way a 283 or 235 would have been. The owner corrected GMs shortcomings. Clever. I had a 60. They were as aerodynamic as the broadside of a barn and handled like a bean bag chair.
They're aftermarket. If it came from the factory with wire wheels there'd be a 5th one in the trunk. I cannot find any literature showing optional wire wheels for 59 Chevrolets. There are other pictures of this car on a dealer's web site with the original wheels and spinner wheelcovers, which are correct.

i love the late 50's car because they are odd... odd in the sense, they truly are a mix of old 40-50 styling but mixed with what was to come in the 60's ...it lasted only 4-5 years but its a wonderfull period for auto design

Absolutely Lou, I have just come across your channel so have some catching up to do. The 59 impala is a work of art. It's really nice that people appreciate the old cars. Here in the UK I myself have had a few Jaguar XJS's and have just sold my 1988 convertible. But in the States there seems to be more of the old classic cars around. Great to see 👌🏻. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
in those years it happened quite a bit, people buyed the ragtop for the style but werent interested at all drinving with the top down...thats why a bit later they resolved the problem by selling 'hardtop coupe' wich just were the regular coupe with a ragtop roofline but made of metal...it sold like hot cakes in the 60's
Hi 20aplhabet, High praise :-) Suggestion, can you upload this link to your Facebook page, as I'm hoping to get to 100K Subscribers so Sponsors will join me so I can dedicate this to being a full time fun... I mean work :-) Can you help? Lou
Really nice car. We had a 1960, which was a facelift of the '59. Ours had a 283, which in those days was called a "baby V-8.". The tranny was Powerglide, I think. Very light car, and no power nothin'! It moved down the road, and never gave a moment's trouble.
Good that it has the 348. I once drove a 1959 Impala that had the pitiful 6 cyl. I think that a kid on a bicycle could have smoked that brick in a drag race.
Awesome job Lou, that 59 Chev Convertible looked "hot" & the interior looked so rich & healthy, almost "sexy". I know, I need to get outside more! I was glad the guy Jim "honked" the horn w/o being told, it sure gets a person's "attention" especially if they're in a "coma" at a GREEN light.😃

Hi Mark Drukenbrod, Glad to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Suggestion, can you take the link and add it to your Facebook page, and I'm hopeful other people will learn about the RUclips Channel too. Thank you, Lou
To me, the 59 Chevy impala had the nicest assend of any cars of that era especially with the sideways fins and those beautiful tail lights that look like eyes and the fins look like eyebrows.

Hi Tony, Both the air conditioning and the convertible were each expensive options so if you lived in the Midwest or upper 1/2 of the USA many times if you could afford it you'd get one or the other, and if you lived south and had the $ you maybe could afford both options. Lou

For '59 and '60, outside of the Corvette the 348 'wedge' ruled the street and the strip. One with the Police engine, Posi-traction and 4-speed ran high 13's on a good day.
Hi Klasse Act, Yes, cars today have more HP & better brakes, and better handling, and safety features, and stereos....however how can you compare an "never going to catch your attention on the road" Honda Accord to this?!? Lou
Any car that could get into the 13's bone stock in 1959 was really fast. Chevy designed the engine for high-revs/low speed use in trucks. So they over-engineered them for longevity under stress. Does Honda make a big block truck engine? I don't think they do. You know a commercial truck is going to put 400k miles on it of hauling a load.
it didint go into the 13's stock... ireally love those cars and im opposed to spreading uncle tales...with the powerglide it clocked at 17.5 with all the performance option available it was in the high 16 the street warrior era wasnt there yet a few years later a stock impala with a 409 manual were running mid 15 stock in the 60's that when stock cars started to push fast 1320 times for example the top of the line fuel injected 58 corvette clocked in at 15,1 and its 700 lbs lighther than the impala and came with a 3,89 gear... 15,1 in 58 was real REAL fast....the true measure of performance for americans in the those days were the top speed not the quarter mile times...it only changed to that in the 60's with crazy popularity rise of drag racing
My father had one. It was a white on red 2dr hardtop. I'm not sure what was under the hood but she did have dual exhausts and antennas. I remember she could get on the hiway pretty quick. 👍🏻😉
Is the power steering pump driven off the back of the generator? That's a unique solution for component packaging. Also, the extra bumper bar that goes between the optional Dagmars is a rare piece that could have been highlighted a bit more. The gold Impalas are impressive too. A very special car for sure.
Yes, the power steering pump was driven off the back of the generator on 50's Chevies. I believe it was until the generator was replaced with an alternator.
Hi Lynx Star Automotive. Good idea. Hope I'll have an edit Team and more equipment as the Channel grows :-) Stay tuned, and let's see what happens, Lou

Nice ride! I was wondering if the transmission was a Powerglide right at the moment it was mentioned it had a "modern" 60s THM. Loved seeing the ps pump being driven off the back of the generator. What were the shields over the top of the headlights? Interesting look - was that factory?
Hi jnucci1, Glad you enjoy this ride :-) Not sure about the trans. As I understand the chrome over the headlights was a "cool" add on, not factory. If there is a Viewer who has more knowledge, please feel free to share, or add on to what I've said. Lou
Hi William Colella, Glad you think this one is "awesome" :-) Me too. I think they did not want the top wrinkled, and I'm fine with that and will respect that, as long as we get to see this one on the Channel :-) Lou

this is by far one the Best and my favorite including the '60 & '61 model.the shape of the body is of thosev3 model cars have the mark of 'Distinction', very Classy and Sexy, Gorgeous vehicles.
...IMHO, one of the most stylishly beautiful cars ever made...I love every detail of this particular car...except for those chrome covers that cover half of the headlights...never liked the looks of them, nor understood why anyone would want to cover up half their headlights... :)
I always thought that the tissue box was such a weird option but considering how expensive A/C was back then I guess it was a nice little convenience for riding with nature's air conditioning.
Love the side profile, rear treatment and interior, but the grill is so so. Could be because 2 prev videos we're the 57 Eldorados, or that my 2019 Impala has a sweeter grille.
My dad had a white with red int. when I was in H.S. I always had the top down and loaded the gang in to go to the beach. It would get real floaty at 100mph and when I wrecked it he bought me an old Ford. I always missed that convertible.
GOD IF YOU CAN HEAR MY CRY BEFORE I DIE. PLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEE.PUT THIS IN MY GARAGE.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭I WAS BORN IN 1958 AND THIS IS A 1959. WE HAVE A LOT IN COMMON. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

A BEAUTIFUL GULL WING 59 CONVERTIBLE AND UNUSUALLY EQUIPPED. MY 59 IMPALA COUPE DID NOT HAVE THAT CHROME TRIM DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE DECK. THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE POWER STEERING OR PADDED DASH THAT I COULD SEE AND ALSO THE TRANSMISSION EVIDENTLY HAS 3 SPEEDS AS MY POWERGLIDE WAS JUST TWO SPEED .THE SELECTOR ON MY CAR HAD LOW- DRIVE- NEUTRAL- REVERSE AND PARK.THIS CAR HAS A SELECTOR READS 1-2-D-N-R-P.THE ONLY OTHER CHEVY TRANSMISSION WAS TURBOGLIDE A SINGLE DRIVE POSITION AS DYNAFLOW AND FOR SNOW OR SAND A POSITION CALLED GR OR GRADE RETARD ONLY GOOD FOR UP TO 5 MPH. IT READ GR-D-N-R-P . ALSO I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY ANYONE WITH A RAG TOP WOULD NOT WANT TO SHOW IT OFF WITH THE TOP DOWN !!THAT'S WHEN A CONVERTIBLE SHINES AND AS FOR THE ENGINE THE 348 CAME IN 3 DIFFERENT VERSIONS FOR 59 A SINGLE 4 BRL AT 250 HP AND 3 DUECES AT 280 HP AND THEN THE MAGNIFICENT DUNTOV WITH 3 DUECES DUNTOV .CAM SOLID LIFTERS .DUAL IGNITION.10.5 TO 1 COMPRESSION RATIO AT 315 HP. USUALLY BUCKLED TO THE NEW 4 SPEED AND POSI.

Open up those secondary carbs! If they're never used, the fuel in them never gets used, which will eventually result in that fuel going bad. The 3x2 system is designed so that the secondary carbs are either not being used at all (they don't even have idle circuits) or they're wide open.
My only disappointment is that Adam West (RIP) wasn't there to plug this beauty. I'd like to think of this as his back-up Batmobile should his primary one need to be in the Bat-Shop for a week or so. The view of the dash from the front of the car ( at 4:11 ) really adds a Batcar feel to it. Pretty cool. The tissue box I thought was the airconditioner. I guess Batman has to be sneaky about how to hide his valuable Tissue Collection. lol. Loving that dash panel a lot!
Beautiful car and as clean as the board of health as we used to say. Drop the top and enjoy it, it is too big to put on the mantle with the Royal Daltons. I know you were Jonesing to put the top down weren't you Lou??

Good that it has the 348. I once drove a 1959 Impala that had the pitiful 6 cyl. I think that a kid on a bicycle could have smoked that brick in a drag race.
Hi Marc, Happy to read you enjoy the 348 in this car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile OK!
What a beautiful car. Thanks for sharing Lou, I really enjoyed the video.
Glad you enjoy this one Robert Lee :-) You're welcome, Lou
hey lou its me, great car, great video....great googala-moogala. i know Peg Bundy had an oven that the door had never been opened.
Hey Charlotte, "great googala-moogala" NICE :-) Lou
Awesome job Lou, that 59 Chev Convertible looked "hot" & the interior looked so rich & healthy, almost "sexy". I know, I need to get outside more! I was glad the guy Jim "honked" the horn w/o being told, it sure gets a person's "attention" especially if they're in a "coma" at a GREEN light.😃

Great car and video. When these came out, the departure from the ‘55-‘58 styling to this must have been shocking. Thanks Lou!

Hi Lou...Beauty of a Car...Does anyone know how many 1959 Impalas came with the "TriPower" 348..........?
Hi super duper, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I don't know how many came with 348 TriPower, so hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou
@@loucostabile Thank you for getting back so quickly...I could find No info on the Net on this question...hoping someone must know......great show.....cheers
I had a crazy boss who always bought convertibles, and never lowered the top. He liked the look, and said using the top wrinkled it.
Hi Jeffrey Martin, Thanks for sharing memories of your former Boss :-) Lou
Wow is right, Lou!

It is interesting how in the late 50s and early 60s you would sometimes find a car fully loaded such as this one but no air conditioning.
Hi Tony, Both the air conditioning and the convertible were each expensive options so if you lived in the Midwest or upper 1/2 of the USA many times if you could afford it you'd get one or the other, and if you lived south and had the $ you maybe could afford both options. Lou
Amazing!!! Beautiful, SWEET!!

For '59 and '60, outside of the Corvette the 348 'wedge' ruled the street and the strip. One with the Police engine, Posi-traction and 4-speed ran high 13's on a good day.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge :-)
Hi Klasse Act, Yes, cars today have more HP & better brakes, and better handling, and safety features, and stereos....however how can you compare an "never going to catch your attention on the road" Honda Accord to this?!? Lou
Any car that could get into the 13's bone stock in 1959 was really fast.
Chevy designed the engine for high-revs/low speed use in trucks. So they over-engineered them for longevity under stress. Does Honda make a big block truck engine? I don't think they do.
You know a commercial truck is going to put 400k miles on it of hauling a load.
it didint go into the 13's stock... ireally love those cars and im opposed to spreading uncle tales...with the powerglide it clocked at 17.5 with all the performance option available it was in the high 16
the street warrior era wasnt there yet a few years later a stock impala with a 409 manual were running mid 15 stock
in the 60's that when stock cars started to push fast 1320 times
for example the top of the line fuel injected 58 corvette clocked in at 15,1 and its 700 lbs lighther than the impala and came with a 3,89 gear... 15,1 in 58 was real REAL fast....the true measure of performance for americans in the those days were the top speed not the quarter mile times...it only changed to that in the 60's with crazy popularity rise of drag racing
Had to have the Police engine, 4 speed and Positrac - according to Hot Rod test.
My father had one.
It was a white on red
2dr hardtop.
I'm not sure what was under the hood but she did have dual exhausts and antennas. I remember she could get on the hiway pretty quick. 👍🏻😉
Hi George B, Happy to read your Father had one :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Is the power steering pump driven off the back of the generator? That's a unique solution for component packaging. Also, the extra bumper bar that goes between the optional Dagmars is a rare piece that could have been highlighted a bit more. The gold Impalas are impressive too. A very special car for sure.
Glad to read you enjoy the details :-) Hope you see and share many more details on cars on the Channel you enjoy Al Terego, Lou
Yes, the power steering pump was driven off the back of the generator on 50's Chevies. I believe it was until the generator was replaced with an alternator.
The spinner on the wire wheel was not installed correctly and the steering wheel is smaller because it has power steering, not for convenience.
Hi Gearshifter G, Thank you for viewing & sharing your knowledge, Lou
Where and what are those headlight bulbs. I have a 67 Cadallac those would look good on.sweet 59

Lou
Add on over the headlights.

Awesome, Lou. Wondered why the owner did not put the top down?!
Hi William Colella, Glad you think this one is "awesome" :-) Me too. I think they did not want the top wrinkled, and I'm fine with that and will respect that, as long as we get to see this one on the Channel :-) Lou
This videographer really orders that old man around like some kind of monarch ordering around his manservant. I think if I were the old man I would deck that smart ass and teach him to say please and thank you.

Absolutely stunning
High praise :-)
Lou correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the steering wheel is smaller because of the power steering.
You know, I'm not sure. I'm hoping a Viewer car share knowledge.
...IMHO, one of the most stylishly beautiful cars ever made...I love every detail of this particular car...except for those chrome covers that cover half of the headlights...never liked the looks of them, nor understood why anyone would want to cover up half their headlights... :)
High praise for this design :-)
I always thought that the tissue box was such a weird option but considering how expensive A/C was back then I guess it was a nice little convenience for riding with nature's air conditioning.
Good point :-)
Love the side profile, rear treatment and interior, but the grill is so so. Could be because 2 prev videos we're the 57 Eldorados, or that my 2019 Impala has a sweeter grille.
Hi Pat, Happy to read you enjoy the profile of this car :-) Lou
My dad had a white with red int. when I was in H.S. I always had the top down and loaded the gang in to go to the beach. It would get real floaty at 100mph and when I wrecked it he bought me an old Ford. I always missed that convertible.
Happy to read this video of this car brings back memories of your Dad's car :-)
It looks better in Black than the cinnamon colored one I had

They really knew how to make cars back in the late 50's.
What did this sell for?
Hi Lee Swanson, Agreed, some amazing designs :-) Lou
@@leeswanson9732 No idea what this one sold for.

Rolling sculpture, very desirable. There aren’t many cars made today that would stand jacking under the bumper...
Hi Andrew Graham, "Rolling sculpture" well said :-) Lou
Hey Lou. Lovely looking 59 Chevy convertible. :)
Hey Jason, Glad you enjoy the looks of this "lovely" one :-) Lou
Thanks for posting. I've seen two door Impala hardtops, but for some reason, never an Impala convertible.
Open up those secondary carbs! If they're never used, the fuel in them never gets used, which will eventually result in that fuel going bad. The 3x2 system is designed so that the secondary carbs are either not being used at all (they don't even have idle circuits) or they're wide open.
I'm good with your idea :-)
My only disappointment is that Adam West (RIP) wasn't there to plug this beauty. I'd like to think of this as his back-up Batmobile should his primary one need to be in the Bat-Shop for a week or so. The view of the dash from the front of the car ( at 4:11 ) really adds a Batcar feel to it. Pretty cool. The tissue box I thought was the airconditioner. I guess Batman has to be sneaky about how to hide his valuable Tissue Collection. lol. Loving that dash panel a lot!
Glad you felt this was Batworthy :-)
Very nice.
Happy to read "Very nice." :-)
This was the Batmobile before Batman had a Batmobile! There was just no mistaking it for anything else!

NICE CAR. WISH IT HAD AN A/C UNIT ALTHOUGH A CONVERTIBLE.
