I get so excited when companies make good on their HomeKit promises. Great review and breakdown Andrew. Thank you!
A neat (and complex) system. I wonder if all those links to different systems won’t get broken over time as software gets updated.
Love it!! It’s one my favorite smart home accessories.
Excellent review ! Well done. Thanks for a great insight on the units potential! Please update as needed. Am finishing a new home and was wrapped around Control 4 and Savant. Seems this will be all we need.
These are the ONLY smart wall switches I've seen that actually look like the future and not something from the 90s.
Great vid.... was hoping to see a demo of the speakers 🔊 quality.
Hurry up and release in the UK!
Looks like a great product. I'm not looking at price when I buy something. I look at quality and value for the money. This product seems to have both.
Yeah I love it too
Can you please go over how to control lutron switch from this brilliant controller?
Thanks.
I have two and I love them. Haven’t set up HomeKit yet but it does work well with SmartThings. I used Wink for years and had two of their wall units but I started having issues with the automation and controls. Also their wall units were outdated. These Brilliant units replaced my Wink relays and I’m never looking back (Especially with them charging to use their system). But I will say the built in cameras on the Brilliant units are not brilliant. Very low res but it’s not a deal breaker for me as I always have them covered.
It will be great if they were exposed to HKSV, and for example show who is on your front door when motion is detected, etc.
Can you use the physical dimmers to control Hue bulbs, or do they have to control the wired switch lights that they replaced? I don’t use my switches anymore for actual switching because of my hue lights but would love to start again with this unit, I could just use the outlet to power this...
Brilliant needs an upgrade for speed of fan support and they should have cheaper dimmer only switch.
I would like to get some recessed lights installed and connect with this Brilliant switch. Are there any alternatives other than Philips Hue? All other RGB recessed lights I checked cannot be dimmed by a wall switch.
Do they have a faceplate that would accommodate a double switch (one on top of the other) in a single gangplate? It’s for my light and ceiling fan. I’ve not found any options for this setup. Thanks in advance!
Hi can you change the light setting to 50% so every time you turn it on you dont have to turn the dimmer down? Thanks!
I have a Ring alarm system and looking to get an Ecobee and a Brilliant switch. Will a Brilliant allow me to tie the ring alarm window sensors to actions in ecobee?
Will it ever be able to natively control Apple Music? That will be the dividing factor for me. I don’t have any Sonia speakers, I use Apple airport expresses to connect to som old receivers to power speakers throughout my house.
This is not Brilliant review, this guy doesn't stop talking about HomeKit.
So what are these "upcoming integrations"?
Are each one of those sliders a smart switch? Can they be changed to just on / off switches?
Does this use HomeKit to control ecobee or does it require the internet connection to the ecobee service/api?
My only complaint is I hope that they can add a better home screen layout. I wish you could simply have buttons for all my lights in a big grid layout
The company sent me 4 free double panels and I love it!! My kids love the intercom fuction
How did you get them?
@@kl163g I had then giving to me when I had my house built. Our builder gave us a promotional code for the home.
How’s the intercom speaker/sound quality ? Would it be good enough to to replace a echo dot?
@@PaddyP538 not really, Its functional but google home or echo dot are way more iniversal and sound way louder
Is this compatible with? Wyze cameras or doorbell ? OR Smart ife doorbell or Reolink or Amcrest
Can anyone tell me if it works with the HomeKit native Logitech Circle View Doorbell? Thanks in advance!
Nice video review. But for the price ($400+ for a single-gang??), what’s the advantage of this over just using your phone from the comfort of your couch or bed to control all your smart devices? Seems easier than walking over to the wall, stooping over and messing with a wall-mounted screen. Just trying to understand the advantage of such a system (and to justify the price tag). Thoughts? Thanks.
Thinking maybe a place where you have people coming over frequently for parties or gatherings, they will be able to control the music (assuming you have SONOS system), lights and scenes without you giving your phone, tablet or give them access to your network… I know it is a very niche and specific situation but something that has happened to me so this is an elegant but of course pricey solution.
Great product! But a rip off at 500.00 Lots of advantages!!! Watch the video!!
Does Brilliant work with Eufy doorbell?
Good
Hi just had this installed. My faceplate the screen is warm/hot to the touch. Is that normal? TYVM
The screen is warm but should not be hot. You may want to have a professional electrician check that out and also contact Brilliant Support.
Consider putting the display on a timer.
Can u like turn off screen or set on timer to turn off. There’s no way that can stay on in a bedroom so I’m sure there is an option??
It is. You can set it to turn on when interacted with, when motion is detected, during certain times, etc.
I have followed them for awhile now. Only issue is the price. Expensive. And imagine replacing many in your house? Wow. No thanks. They can’t compete at that price range.
I love that there are new products supporting homekit, but at this price you might as well get smart switches and mount a few iPad 7’s ($250 sale) to get full functionality of homekit, hsv, and music.
Needs to drop the price by $100-$150
I’m just saying I appreciate the quality. You would want this to be half the price and a lesser product. Why not just get something different. For some this is much requested and well worth the cost if they can afford.
When it says it works with Sonos speakers does that include the IKEA WiFi ones?
Hi did you ever get the answer for this question?
It should the Smyphonisk speakers work just like Sonos speakers as far as I know
dose it work with Samsung smart things?
Sadly only works in USA! Amazing product though, would wish they came to Europe!
These have gone up $100 in the past year
I’m actually already proud to say I have a high tech smart house
Proud!! ...... really?
It looks cool but I can do everything by voice with alexa for way less
I use mostly android and Google products. I see alot of reviews from Alexa users. Anyone got a review for the other user?
Will it still control your lights when internet goes out?
yes, it is wired and operates like a light switch.
Great video but you are using the word “verbose” incorrectly. I believe you are mistakenly using it where you mean to say “robust”.
I dont see any 3 way switches being demonstrated
I find this hard to warrant. I’d rather not stand looking at the wall when I’m trying to play music or see a camera feed or do something as simple as turn on a light. I’ll stick to regular switches and my cellphone for the rest lol
This is my thought as well. This is such a cool product but my phone seems more convenient. If I had enough money to where the price was trivial I would get it because its cool and "why not?" but I dont so I will have to stick with my phone for now.
Sadly, it's 120v -US only.. :-(
I hope they release 220v
They do a lot which is awesome but they are way too expensive.
If u see the quality you’ll see why the price is... it’s a very quality unit
Nothing is that quality when it can’t compete because it’s to expensive.
@@roderickarina Not true, you're basically saying since Apple has no competition and is, therefore, unable to compete because it's too expensive... hence not quality?
I have been thinking about buying them for years. But they are even more expensive than a few iPad models. If I want to purchase a few of them it adds up quickly ... So I am still waiting ...
Talk about taking something as simple as a light switch and making it more complicated than it needs to be. It's like the digital version of the Rube Goldberg machine.
Very nice but even on sale they are very expensive. Makes no sense to only buy one but by the time you put one in multiple rooms, you’re in the multiple thousands. I don’t see the value prop. It doesn’t do more than what you can do from your phone from anywhere in the house. Lack of fan speed control is a miss. We almost never have fans at full speed.
Looks cool but not really seeing the point of it without having a remote to go with it. If I’ve got to use my phone for a remote it renders the brilliant useless.
The timeline for HomeKit certification is ridiculous which is why companies do not go that route. Apple has to travel to the factory it is made and inspect the manufacturing process. They also get full access to your board design etc. the process normally takes 2-3 years.
Obviously obnoxious but they want to control quality. Why wouldn’t they when they control everything. They want to make sure the use fits to apples standards. This should be a good sign to people vs letting anything in their ecosystem
This isn't true at all. In fact, nearly everything you mentioned is incorrect. A manufacturer just needs to follow the official protocal process which can (and usually is) entirely software based. There's no inspection of factories or any of that nonsense you are referring to.
In fact, you YOURSELF can build your own homekit accessory without even consulting apple in the first place. Why? Much of homekit already is open sourced.
Why would you have this over your smartphone? Just seems to be duplicating functions imo.
There are countless reasons to do this. A) do you always want to be tethered to your phone? B) kids don’t have phones but should be able to control lights C) guests who don’t have your apps or access to your smart home D) other members of the family who don’t want to or can’t use their phone to do it E) devices like Hue, Sonos, or LIFX that don’t have physical controls but can benefit from them F) seeing your smart doorbell anywhere you are in your home. G) it is quicker and easier to control things from here than your phone. Also, all in one place versus separate apps for different accessories. Those are just a few reasons why
AppleInsider All valid points AppleInsider!
But I hope you can see how a 800 dollar smartphone plus up to 450dollar smart device with very similar functions could pose a purchasing dillemma. Probably great for house builders and renovations though..?
What’s your pick...Wall mounted iPads or brilliant system?
This or a smart display that can control all your devices?
Adebola Adeniran. There is nothing as small and clean and simple install as this. Ok complain about price but just work more or save... this obviously is a luxury item. It’s a screen to control things... that’s not standard in homes. Far from it
Too much money and not sold in Canada
I'm having a hard time understanding what the narrator is saying half of the time. It's like he's blending words together.
Waaaay too expensive
Slow down when you're talking... It's like you were rushing through this video as fast as you could
First
i will pass on that, it costs $199, really?. too much, i currently use an amazon fire 7 table for smart control about $25 - $50.
Where im at its $350
Dude these are like 500 bucks. Ridiculous.
It’s just too expensive to compete.
Homekit is so janky, I hate it
What a rip off!! At $500.00!!!
It's worth the money. It includes multiple smart switches and a smart display that has Ring, Sonos, etc. There's nothing like it on the market.
Overcomplicating
This dude talks too fast. He rambled on like he was day disclaimer in a car add. I also can’t see one good reason to own this product. Who wants to stand there playing with this thing. Why not just use your phone.
It's honestly cheaper to use an old used touch iPod/iPad and wall-mount it for everything you need than it is to buy this product - as well as stay entirely in Homekit.
Unfortunately Apple Homekit still needs this Smart Switch and Smart Plug etc in order for it to function.
