Trains at Sunbury; Metro, V/Line & Steam Trains - Melbourne Transport

In this video we visit the large satellite suburb of Sunbury situated around 38km north west of Melbourne with a population of around 38,000. The station at Sunbury serves as the terminus of Metro's Sunbury Line, and is also served by V/Line regional services on the Bendigo Line.
In the video we visit Sunbury Station on a Sunday afternoon where we see various Metro Trains; mostly Alstom-refurbished Comeng trains but a lone Siemens trains also makes an appearance. We also see a couple of V/Line Vlocity trains. However its not a typical Sunday as Steamrail Victoria were operating shuttles between Watergardens and Sunbury with steam locomotive A2 986 and the Tait electric multiple unit. We see the heritage train twice during my visit.
Sunbury station opened on the 10th February 1859 as the original terminus of the line from Melbourne, before it was extended further north towards Bendigo in 1861 - 1862. The water tower on platform 2 is the original from when the station opened and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. The current weatherboard station building on platform 1 dates from 1910.
The station has had several upgrades over the past several decades; firstly in 1993 when the station building was refurbished with updated facilities and landscaping. The current footbridge was provided in 2001 and would have replaced the old wooden footbridge (likely in conjunction with the expansion of the adjacent shopping centre).
The station received a major upgrade in 2012 when electrification was extended from Watergardens to Sunbury, with Metro services commencing on the 18th November 2012. The upgrade included new extensive shelters on both platforms, refurbishment of the main station building, and a new station building (likely a drivers facility).
