- While marathoning the game in 12 hours was probably not the best way to experience it, I really wanted to complete the campaign before I burned through the content that is in the game currently. It's a very fun game that already has a lot of interesting things to do, but with how long the campaign is the game is sorely needing some variety in the missions since the vast majority of your missions will be Base Raids.

My grandfather used to serve on a British PT boat during WWII. He described it as having only 5 minutes of actual combat the entire time. His PT boat saw a German PT boat, they both fired their already-loaded torpedoes at each other, they both missed, and they both decided "well they can't say we didn't try. Lets leave now." and just sailed away.

Yeah. People really underestimate the ever present IDGAF attitude of the soldiers when they get into encounters they know that even if they win can only be a bad day for them. So the best course of action is to runaway and fight another day.
Rimmy's obsession with finding the Fubuki in this game is surpassing that of any other obsession ever documented
I recall a long time ago in a video of his where the topic of Vtubers came up and he was the one to brought up something along the lines of "Fubuki with a penis" or Futanari Fubuki. So, uh, yeah, if I have to hazard a guess, he probably really likes Fubuki. Just a little fun fact.

Now I'm just reminded of Call of Duty World at War PBY level where you are constantly being told to take out those damned PT boats. After seeing this, I can see why.

Cruisers are the heavy anti-air batteries, destroyers are the lighter version and PT boats are just like self-propelled AAs.
They're not powerful but if amassed, can be equivalent of a destroyer.

Hilariously, Rimmy's obsession with nailing Fubuki reminds me of a book I read a while back, "Sink the Shigure". It's a novel where a submarine captain, upon learning that the titular destroyer nailed his previous command, goes nuts and immediately sets out to find and sink her. The problem is, even though it was written several years before KanColle became a thing, he was up against Gouta's Shigure, who literally kills everything with casual indifference.
Shigure, a ship inflicted with the curse of the sole survivor. She would be eventually be lost after her captain was transferred to another post.

Some people want to chase a battleship, others aircraft carriers. Rimmy, Rimmy wants to chase the head of a destroyer class like its a prized whale and he's a drunk sea captain.
Now that's an even more aggressive mindset than most destroyer captains.
They are trained that if you see an enemy, switch into Leeroy Jenkins mode and charge at them.
PT boats excel at charging to a big ship like cruisers and battleships, but destroyers are designed to *counter them.*

This is an awesome game. The fact you can customize the PT boat in a similar manner to the real PT crews is nice. Those little buggers are some of the best vessels to be made of mahogany.

@@jhorn64 PT Crews: “acquiring” anything from mortars and heavy machine guns to tank cannons, BOFORS, and torpedo systems. All in the name of sinking the target.
Some submariners made off with an old (basically held in reserve) harbor defense gun once. Picked up the whole thing and a few crates of shells in the middle of the night, bolted it to their boat while it was still dark and were well away on their patrol by the time anyone realized there was an entire damn artillery piece missing from the inventory.

The M3 AT gun is fantastic at destroying port defences. As you can cheese the game by sitting too far away to be detected
You can pretty much do it with the mortar at night too, but the M3 definitely lets you cheese from the spawn point.
While that is true, the problem with that is that Base Raids are SUPER boring and so I want to rush in and finish them quickly with the squadron's AA guns. Like yes, it's nice that you can snipe with it, but it just makes one of the most boring missions even longer. The mortar meanwhile is insanely useful, instant kills on Sub Chasers, can kill destroyers with it, smoke rounds, so on, so forth. It's also very cheap.

...hunting for Fubuki when it was a member of the Ayanami subclass that accidentally sunk JFK's PT boat by running into her. Granted, Amagiri did help JFK rise to greatness that way (fun fact, Amagiri's captain and JFK became friends postwar).
I am reminded of one of Whiskey’s streams from the last month of her basically bullying a Fubuki in World of Warships, culminating in her repeatedly shouting “Fubuki” as she sent her dive bombers to kill it.

I love how they included the army 37mm "acquired" by a PT crew lol. It was later repaid by an army truck convoy snagging a dual .50 mount off a ship to protect themselves during either Korea or Vietnam.
Vietnam, and the truck it was mounted to was named the 'Eve of Destruction'.
Oh I remember the Bomber Crew game you played. This game looks really fun! I wish there was a game with the pseudo-interactive map that was more realistic though and maybe infantry based.
It was Rimmy's playthrough of Bomber Crew that got me to buy it all those years ago. Now he might end up getting me to buy another one.

Need a game with the battle where the TAFFY 3 squadron planes throw empty coke bottles, clipboards and fire revolvers at Japanese destroyers as the planes don't have any ammo (yes I saw the series of videos, I am not a dad but they all seem to have subscribed to that channel)

The thing I like about the campaign is it sorta simulates what its like to be a rebel group in a larger war. You are basically commencing raids and such on the enemy while the larger war progresses. Success or failure hinging on how well you do. I often feel most games that have you ni a rebellion never do something like this as they tend to just have you in set campaigns and such.
Out of 3 youtubers i've seen playing this, Rimmy is the only one who did not choose the Prototype.

Fun fact: destroyers before WW1 weren't meant to defeat subs. They were meant to defeat torpedo boats, literally to "destroy" them.

I wish there was a game like bomber crew but more realistic looking like those old call of duty ww2 bomber missions where you had to man the guns/bomb etc! Bomber crew is one of my favorite games I feel like something like that would be really cool
MTB and PT Boats did have smoke generators in real life so its odd that you couldn't make smoke. Maybe an update that wasn't bought?

I always hoped that the bomber crew series would branch out to other fields of ww2. Like how a medium bomber in the original game had a crew of 4-6 (I can't remember tbh), perhaps do the same thing for a naval warfare game but you could even command the largest ship sizes, but the crews are never larger than 20 perhaps? With everything being simplified I could imagine a light cruiser having a crew of 10 or so and an aircraft carrier being manned by 12, excluding pilots.
I'd set it in the Atlantic personally, that way convoys and subs could play a big part.
Boat crew got an update to where enemies will now scramble from docks, you lose 25% of RP instead of 40%, and a few other things. i was playing when they pushed it and its great, but holy FUCK do i hate destroyers. torpedoes and autocannon can do serious damage. if there are no ships, the autocannon has pretty much an unlimited range, while you want mortars for ship engagements

I'm guessing the readiness of an island's ship based defenses are based on your alert level generated while doing raids. IE, if you go in to a heavily stacked port, but with no alert level, everyones going to be in port. VS if you jump in with a max alert, everyone is gonna be on guard.

The fog mortar is a grate idea imagine you invading one the islands and you got a smoke screen assist easy get to tree line or etc then. Down side any enemy could just straife the area and just hit for effect. N
3 months late. but i just wanted to share a tidbit related to this video. I rescued a kitten roughly one week old from the parking lot at work. She was starving, had flea dirt on her, infection in both eyes, and dangerously severe respitory infection. The only reason we found her is because she was mewling for mumma. We found what we assumed to be the mother dead on the lot 2 days later. My kitten would have perished for sure when the thunderstorm that night blew through.
I named her Fubuki. When i picked her up she protested, but was too smol. I said to my co-worker, "This one has a strong spirit. There may be hope for this one.". I have never been more satisfied in my life to be proven correct. Fubuki is now 8 months old. Highly inquisitive, always dashing from place to place, attacking my hands like a kung -fu master with jumping pounces. She is fixed and can see out of one eye. The other eye is covered by a membrane that isn't causing any harm (yet). Another interesting medical curiosity about her is that her heart is larger than normal. Goes without saying... I was going to name her bismark, but i decided Fubuki is a more fitting name. Destroyers are small fast warships, known for employing particularly aggressive doctrine, when preforming screening actions. Also because the japanese have a fondness for cats. A name with three traits matching her personality. I am allergic and I do not care. She brings my single life much warmth and joy and a reason to keep my shelves and countertops clear and clean and my chores kept up on.

as a World of Warships survivor, I dont think I can play a game where I HAVE to charge an Akizuki-class gun destroyer, due to my PTSD
