I just bought some and they're on delivery now. I'm quite shock cause I thought it love direct sunlight light orther succulents and cactus. My balcony garden only gets the afternoon direct light sun for 4-6 hours. So is it okay to put it there, the shop owner said it 40+cm. About the temperature in my place, we have hot summer months, it can get 33+°C so can it tolerate that ?. Hope you can give answer soon. Love your videos
I have a neighbor around the corner from my house that has four of the beauties on her front porch, and all four are easily as big as I am! (5’6” woman!) I only ever see them in passing but I hope she knows many people enjoy seeing them on her porch!

I have an African Milk Plant that is 4’+ tall but has no branching. Do you have any advice on how to encourage branching? I’m tempted to lob the top 3’ off to propagate a new plant and see if the original plant branches from the callus. Thoughts?
.. The leafs are many but short lived, don't worry about it, it's absolutely normal during spring and summer 🤗 just use a baby toothbrush to gently brush off the whittered leafs, and it will come back with more.. It's like when a plant is flowering before pushing out new growth..
Hi Amal, I’m not sure who liked the question. But I’m happy I got to it now :-) In my experience it has grown branches without me doing anything on purpose. However, I am sure many factors contribute to it. I think one of the main factors would be light (as it is needed for healthy growth). I’d say to provide as much light as possible, just avoid placing your tree under direct intense light for long periods of time. I have a cutting from mine now and have it under a blue grow light to help with growth, no new branches yet but many healthy and big new leaves, which is great :-)

Hiiiii! this is such a great question! We got this one as a gift, so have not try propagating it yet.. However, this is actually a really good questions and I'd like to know about it too.. I will do my research and try to make a video about it soon!
.. First make sure to wear solid garden gloves, other wise you can't handle the plant with all the "needles" surrounding it.. Then carefully turn it over to lie down while you sneak it out of the pot.. Prepare the new pot and carefully lift up your plant to the new pot.. The cuttings you can easily take from where ever on the main stem, as they sit most anywhere.. Choose the biggest ones, cut the off close up to the stem, and stop the milk running with an icecube for a minute or so.. Remember the milk is poisonous so keep away from skin, face and clothes.. Let the new cutting dry for about a week and repot it.. Keep the soil slightly moist until new roots shows, and then you just water as usual 🤗 good luck 🌿🌱🌞
I think it should be okay, as long as the water gets to the roots... I usually just water from the top until I see water coming out of the drainage hole, then I let my African tree by there for about 10 minutes or so, so it absorbs the water... Has watering from the saucer worked for you?

oh no! ok ok let's see.. I don't think we should water very often, as the African milk tree does retain lots of water... in fact, yellow leaves generally mean overwatering.. how often do you water and what method do you use? About the soil... do you have instagram by any chance? maybe you can send a picture over DM and we can figure that out... The African Milk tree tends to get heavier as it grows, so we need to provide support to prevent it from falling and breaking.. Maybe could you please send a picture to me and let's try to figure it out 💚😊
I have had mine for 2yrs and I was told it was a cactus, and to only give it a cup of water every 2 weeks. Which I is what I've done... I recently figured out what it actually is and now Im so unsure how to water. Mine is moderately large (48"h) and I cannot move it easily, or really at all. How do you recommend watering? Is it best to give it a week or two between waterings, and assuming it's dry enough, then give a deep drench? I'm terrified to kill this beauty 😭
Hi! I think it should be okay... just make sure to always check that it is okay.. especially the leaves :) if you see the leaves drying and browning on the edges, the air may be too dry for your plant there.. it is always good to observe them and see how they respond to the environment :)

It was healthy and growing well till only a couple of days ago , I noticed that it’s pretty mushy at the base and when I took some cuttings , I found the sap totally solidified and I don’t know what to do

Then you keep the soil slightly moist (when half the pot has dried out) before you offer it a wee bit of water.. When it has rooted you water only once a month or once every 1,5 month..

There from jobe's? it just seems like I should be doing something for this thing. I've had it in my house for a year and it's doing well I just don't want to neglect it LOL thank you for your help in advance! I'm not one that has a great Green Thumb I just don't want to kill it because I bought this large established milk tree and Spend a good amount of money on it more than I generally would for a houseplant. Hiii! I haven't used the fertilizer spikes yet.. we usually fertilize our African Milk Tree with organic fertilizer that can be used every week.. Is yours growing this season?
@@PlantsandLucia it does not seem as if it's growing. And I did learn that the leaves come off every year and they did the first year and now they're coming off right now. But I did learn that they come off generally in the winter. But it's nothing terribly bad if they come off now. Can you give me a name of a fertilizer that I can use. Perhaps I can order one from Amazon. That would be wonderful or buy it at Walmart. I live and a very rural part of the country and most often I order things from Amazon. thank you so much for helping me.

I think that might be why my plant is not growing quickly. And it definitely needs its leaves back again like it once had. Once I get the fertilizer you suggest I will just moved up plant to a Sunny Spot color the day. Does it like direct sunlight, like if I would have put it in full sun outside?

I have a cactus similar to this one that a customer gave me. The customer cut a piece off her plant and I grew it from that. My problem is an animal turned over the pot last summer and now it is not growing straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Florida. My African milk cactus is an outdoor plant exposed to 12+ hours of direct sunlight, all kinds of rain, humidity, ect and she has doubled her size and is sprouting 13 offchutes in less than a year, with outdoor temps reaching 110°F during the summer. Your info is incorrect.

She's currently over 3 ft tall and I got her as a foot long cutting less than 6 months ago.
