  • DIY Chicken Coop Ideas. See the Poop Funnel, Storage Room, and Hen-House. We made many changes and improvements to make it less work and more fun. Your wife will go crazy if she sees this. It will cost you money. We have spent over $16,000 since we started.
Here is how it began. My wife and I were looking to buy a property. We came across 36 acres of wooded area. Her eyes lit up, and the 1 st request she had before even buying the place was she wanted chickens. Being from Mexico, little did she know about having chickens in a much colder climate. So we were fortunate to get the place, and within a month, we started to build the Chicken Coop. We watched a lot of RUclips videos and made some mistakes, too. It took us a year and a lot of sweat to come this far.
I think there is always something to improve on. So, it is just an ongoing process.

I love the way the door for the eggs folds down. That is what mine does, and it has two cables that hold it open like a shelf. I make the nesting material out of grass on the property. I make my own wood chips with my chipper, and the floor of the enclosed run is dirt. What I might do next is to open the floor of the coop so that all the waste just falls to the dirt below and from time to time I can rake the top layer of dirt and replace it with fresh dirt.

I love how you love your flock. I love my girls and every night we sit, relax and socialize with our girls. I have solar LED patio lights in the run and solar motion detector lights on the exterior. I also use the Tractor Supply pine shavings for the litter. I grow Lavender, Rosemary, Orange and Lemon Balm, Mint etc, and pick whenever I clean the coop, to scatter on the floor. It smells so nice and keeps mice and insects away - and is free. I decorated my Hens house and its pleasing, homey, clean and happy.

We have similar ideas 💡, very creative coop, the biggest difference is my choice of building materials, my coop is built out of steel reinforced block and concrete, my nest boxes are built out of mostly metal and wood, my electricity is 100% solar, my pumping system will be 12v working on solar, my rain catchment will be done with a diverted system with 255 gallon storage, I'm working on my chicken run right now, my coop is called the chicken bunker because it's hurricane proof, I have some videos up so you can see another creative coop, I enjoyed your video.

I just have the medium size water dispensers where they can dip their beaks into it. I have two of them and every two days I replace with a new one. Fresh clean water is important. I grow probiotics in my water and add a bit of vitamin b to their water. I have NEVER had digestive issues with the chickens because of the probiotics. I bought one packet once and from that point on, when filling their water feeder, I leave a bit of the old water in a container, add a drop of honey of a pinch of sugar and add new water. The probiotics eat the honey or sugar and multiply, replenishing the probiotics in the water.

Very impressive! not only visually appealing but designed to reduce the work associated with raising chickens, your birds have 5 star accommodations. Like you I'm in Pa, but my homestead is in the ozarks, when I go back and set up my chicken coop, I will definitely be borrowing a few ideas from your setup to build mine. I really like how you automated your watering system. In the video you said you're not a carpenter, I've spent the majority of my adult life as a contractor, and you have better skills than some of the "experienced" guys I've hired over the years, excellent job!!

I'm getting ready to move to my retirement farm which includes 3 outhouses which are 10X16. Of course one will specifically be for chickens once I get it cleaned out.
I will be gluing down vinyl flooring because I already have it but sealing up the walls is such an excellent thing to do. I was also planning on building a rain water catchment using a couple metal garbage cans but yours looks so much bigger and better.
Looks like you have thought of everything on constructing yours and I will definitely be stealing some of your ideas.
    Look forward to future videos.

This is my DREAM! Genius ideas I will use when I upgrade our chickens. The water system is INCREDIBLE. And making it a beautiful place to be is 100% a way to make it bring you joy every time you hang out with them. Thank you so so much! 🐔 Does the polyurethane deter spiders? Our coop is super clean but I still have spiders wanting to hang out.

You can do it! I think due to the smooth surfaces of the walls, we do not see any webs inside. I am not sure if the polyurethane is a deterrent. But it is really clean.

Greetings from Thailand. Beautiful coop for you, and I think the chickens like it too. It looked like you have an automatic chicken door, but you didn’t mention it. I’m just finishing up my barn with two 8x8 coops inside and two 20 x 40 half covered runs outside. I have 35 spoiled chickens including 7 roosters. Silkies, Polish, mini Cochins, mini Wyandottes, Orpingtons, and two Appenzeller Spitzhaubens. We say we do all this for the chickens, but it’s a 50/50 for us and them I think. Nice video, keep it up.
