Yes! I’m so glad people are finally starting to see that. I remember hating Chuck since the pilot because he tried to assault TWO people in one day and then everyone forgot. I felt like I was being gaslit whenever I said he was the worst person out of the main characters and didn’t deserve Blair or anyone for that matter

I mean he's still a horrible person but I feel like in canon the first episode doesn't count cause it was inspired more by the books and there was no thought of putting Blair and Chuck together or even of chuck becoming such a main character, he was more of Nates awful friend at that point. A Few episodes into season one they seem to decide what to do with him and change his persona from the book one

Tbh I have a theory that Dan and Blair were supposed to end up together but because people shipped Chuck & Blair so much it ruined it. Like in season 1 when Eleanor replaced Blair with Serena for the photo shoot and Dan was the one to comfort her, I knew it was gonna happen. They kept emphasising that they hate each other and never be together. Y’all don’t forget Chuck wasn’t supposed to make it passed season 1.

I think so too, there was a cut scene they didn't use where Dan came to Blair's writing contest or something like that but not even her mom did I can't remember.. back when they "hated" each other. They addressed it in a throwaway line in season 5. The problem is the fact that they focused too much on the sleazy thing with her and Chuck for the first seasons because sex sells, instead of putting a bit more hints of Dan and Blair in the beginning. Then they again sold out to impressionable, loud teenagers in s6 and turned the whole story around just throwing away all build up and growth in previous seasons. And made Dan of all people Gossip Girl because... uh... he's a writer? He has to look worse than Chuck? Not for any logical reason at least. And I don't really get why because they knew this was the last season and didn't have to do well, but they just got lazy and threw together some s1 fanfiction.
@@Dash120z Well, funny thing is people caught on Chuck and Blair's chemistry and got on their wagon. The same thing didn't happen with Dan and Blair even though their comforting scene happened even before the limousine one. Go figure, in all honesty, Dan and Blair belong to two different worlds. Dan could never stop judging Serena and her world, why should he have fitted in that same world with a girl like Blair?

It literally makes Dan a psycho, manipulating everything and all the girls he dated into dating him as a result of him being there to “comfort” and “support” them when it suited him and angry and “hurt” by them at other times. Him being gg made the entirety of him and Blair seem even more cruel of him. He ruined her life on the regular and then dated her? I wish anyone else had been gg, cause him and Blair were genuinely so cute and challenged each other while bringing out the best till you find out the truth about Dan.

The only reason why i can forgive Nate for what he did to Blair on season 1 is the fact that he was being forced by his parents to do that. Imagine, as a teenager, being told (by your parents) that you need to date someone to “save the family”. And when he tried to tell his parents that he didn’t want to do that, they would label him as rebelious and literally blame their problems on him. I honestly felt bad for him. His family was terrible.

@@shivanijoshi9252 maybe you don’t remember, but nothing really happened between Serena and Nate during that thanksgiving flashback. He just helped her sober up. Plus cheating on Blair was bad, but everyone else in the show has done the same to someone eventually (at least the main cast), so it became unreasonable for me to hold it against him. But i definetly won’t forget how he tried to confess his feelings for Serena before breaking up with Blair, that didn’t make any sense.

The marriage between Loui and Blair wasn’t even real _real_ . Loui, himself, told Blair that they’re only married on paper and for appearance sake. And the way the contract was written literally made Blair a prisoner.
He was fine till wedding, he became vindictive after since it was such a an ego-bruising event. It was definitely humiliating, but he took it as an excuse to act like a total asshole. I do think if he'd have somehow been able to swallow his pride and distrust in Blair and just been the "perfect prince" during their honeymoon period and beyond (basically focusing on what they did/do have), they would've been fine and ended up together (like, outside of gg, ofc the show had Blair/Chuck as endgame)

I’m so thankful that there are others who realise Serena wasn’t the only damaged person on Gossip Girl. Blair was extremely insecure, parental trauma on both sides and very misogynistic. The way she forgave chuck after all the evil he’s done she would constantly scold serena and treat her like trash. I love her but she’s too much.

I feel like The Boys is different though. The Boys is a satire that comments on modern America. Often actual assaulters get away with it with just a slap on the wrist. That’s what happened with The Deep. It’s upsetting but realistic.
They still portray his character as the pathetic idiot loser he is. Gossip Girl however, tries to keep Chuck as a protagonist. It’s so weird. I don’t like how Gossip Girl did it. The Boys however did it pretty okay imo.

To me it feels like they included the scene for shock value and then refused to follow up with the consequences in the rest of the season, they didnt want to give it the care, attention and meaning it deserves and just dropped it/pretended it didnt happen. Which is why The Deep's episode feels like it's on a totally different season than the pilot, imo. And yes, I think it's partly due to sexism as other characters' trauma and/or abusive behaviours are handled better.

1. Chuck didn’t tell Blair about the deal he made with Jack until after he thought they slept together
2. He payed her dowry without her knowledge and didn’t want her to know
3. Blair wasn’t at NYU when she was interning at W she was at Columbia
4. That women is actually chucks mother she just told him she wasn’t so he’d get over her
5. Chuck wasn’t in a coma he had just lost a lot of blood
Also Nate was so wrong for acting like him cheating on Blair is equal to Blair sleeping with Chuck after they broke up and also in season 6 when he was dating a 17 year old 😭

What I hate about chuck and Blair aren’t just for the obvious reasons: toxicity, ultimatums, conditional love, abuse, terrible communication, etc. I hated the fact that in the later seasons when chuck got therapy and started becoming somewhat of a better person, that they were so stubborn to get back together. “We can’t be together bc I need to protect you. I’ll always love you, but it’s for the best” PROTECT WHAT? The amount of times chuck let Blair go and then out of nowhere ruining her relationships is just so stupid and a waste of time. Same with Blair just always being in denial and then always going back to chuck but them never actually getting back together over more stubbornness. It just made me wanna say ugh I REALLY don’t want yall together cause you’re just annoying and indecisive 😂
We love Chuck because Ed Westwick played the hell out of his role and had sizzling on-screen chemistry with Leighton Meester. I am convinced that practically no other actor could have made us believe there was a redemption arc.
(Additionally, I'm convinced the writers just went bipolar on him and Chuck is two different characters packed into one because some of his actions made zero sense).

i haven’t watched GG for a couple of years and have been a chuck and blair apologist for a while but watching this i was like the brittany broski meme bc yeah no he was so terrible to her throughout the seasons up until the last season basically 😭😭. the BIGGEST thing to consider though is that while he spent a majority of the show being super toxic for her, Blair would never be able to settle down with anyone else due to her carnal (?idk if that’s the right word lol) nature and how much it aligns with his. I think that Dan had a chance if not for the reveal that he is GG (bullshit/lazy storytelling) and was inadvertently the reason for her miscarriage (it was needed bc imagine the horror of her having a baby with that dude, but like it was still a super traumatic thing) because he’s the only other person that challenges her in the way she needs.
overall though yeah I agree with this take and I wish they had given her ONE MAN who was good for her in every aspect and didn’t abuse her verbally and emotionally 😭😭😭😭

nate is probably the most unproblematic person from the main cast and i feel like the writers did him so dirty in the last seasons bc why did he never have an actual relationship i feel like he should have ended up with blair or serena just anyone that he had an normal relationship with (not rlly sith blair bc he cheated on her) but why did they alwyas let him go for younger/older people ( Jenny, Diana, Marcus’s Mom) 😭😭

Like the only evil thing Marcus really did was cheat on her (which is evil but the bar is on the ground in this show) where as Dan did actual sabotage, evil, ruin her life things like playing the video, especially when you take into account EVERYTHING that GG did to Blair throughout the show
I'm sorry but I hated Dan and Blair together. Their friendship was so refreshing and honest, they challenged each other and realized they were more alike than they thought. They were both studious and ambitious, they loved the arts and would do anything to secure their future. I loved the buildup to their romance, but the relationship itself was handled poorly. It was like they had to constantly be in agreement with each other for things to work, which fizzled out their chemistry. The whole reason they worked so well is that fire they had, easily matching and outsmarting each other.. Dan seeing through her icy exterior and Blair being able to let down her guard around him.
38:20 technically the marriage thing only works for things *spouses* tell each other. So if it was said/done during marriage you can’t force anyone to testify but if you’re not then you can be forced to testify. So this marriage would be useless.
