I like how every single one of them removes the chain before opening the door, even though literally the entire point of the chain is being able to see who it is without opening the door.
YES!!! That's EXACTLY the point! Land shark is so crafty, it'll trick you into taking the chain off before you've had a peek. Evolutions is an absolute wonder!!

I saw this as a rerun as a kid, but now my 15 yr old and I use it all the time! This will never not be funny.
I bought one of those big shark heads from Walmart a couple years back and got my uncle with this bit! Knocked on his door and mumbled, and when he answered- CHOMP! 🤣

Comedy gold. It's even funnier when you realize it's the same apartment each time the Land Shark shows up for dinner. As if the apartment is passed on from one victim to the next. Crazy wonderful.

When I see clips from the old shows I often think that performers from the "Not Ready for Prime Time" gang were not as self-aware as later casts who may have seen the show largely for its career-promoting potential. After Tina Fey left I completely lost interest.

Belushi’s Richard Dreyfus is absolutely phenomenal.
Dan Aykroyd doesn't make a very convincing Roy Scheider, however.
He would have if he lit up a cigarette and Belushi yells "do not smoke in here, thank you!"

As an 18 year old member of Jehovah's Witnesses when this first aired in 1975, I LOVED THIS!!! (I'M 65 years old now.) I am certain that I fell off of the couch with laughter. And if you look closely you can see that Garret Morris DOES INDEED have copies of The Watchtower magazine!!!! 💛💚💙💓💜👍👌

@Pop Films It's way, way older than that. That scene in Blazing Saddles ends with Bart getting played off by the Looney Tunes theme, because the candygram trick was staple joke in cartoons from the 40's and 50's... The joke itself is even older, probably all the way back to vaudeville.

When I was a teenager, I had a job working as a telemarketer. Because of this sketch, when someone had a surname I couldn't pronounce, and they'd pick up the phone, I'd say, "Mrs. Frnbinshinnnn?...."

Those were the good old days. There's a bunch of reasons why the first five seasons are the only ones that made it onto DVD!!
Any period of history that produces icons like Gilda Radner (Emily Litella), John Belushi (with his samurai eyebrow), Bill Murray (Thank you Mrs. Lupner), the Coneheads, Chevy Chase (Jane you ignorant slut), Dan Aykroyd (the Bassomatic), and Don Novello (Father Guido Sarducci, finda the Pope inna da Pizza) qualifies as a cultural revolution. Even though other great things followed like the Czechoslovakian Playboys, the Church Lady and Wayne's World, the first wave broke new ground. Nobody will ever beat that.

I remember canoeing on the river after Jaws came out, and picturing a shark coming at me from the depths. This skit while funny, played on the fear that many like me felt at the time.
Back during the first 5 seasons SNL was something people actually waited for and watched together. They don't call them "the good old days" for nothing.

Love this! I was trying to explain this to my son a few days ago, he laughed through the entire skit.
I just showed this skit to my grade 4 class in Taiwan. We had Candy Grams at our school and I kept saying 'Candy Gram' from this skit, so I had to show it.

This skit was so much a part of my childhood. When I got to see Ice Nine Kills play Rocking the Boat live last year, and someone came on stage in a shark costume, the first thing I thought was, "Land shark!"
This and the killer Christmas Tree sketch were just two of so many classics from the early show.
