2011Grand Cherokee - 187,xxx miles bought in 2014 with 44,xxx miles. Drove it coast to coast, border to border with only routine maintenance. BUT since January of 2023 it has developed ALL of the evils the 3.6L engine and cooling system. All cam followers replaced and one cam shaft, radiator, radiator fan, TWO thermostats and the water pump are the most recent. Both front half shafts from CV joint failure. Both motor mounts, Right front brake welded to the spindle, right rear brake and parking brake, oil cooler/filter housing. Front and rear end fascia repaired/repainted from accidents. hood strut, and rear hatch struts. keeping it because new ones cost too much and interest rates SUCK.

I Bought Our first jeep with 290.000 on the odometer. 04 Grand Cherokee limited with 4.7... .I paid 2500 bucks .....We Absolutely Love the Damn thing!! I am a Mechanic I hate Mopar! This Vehicle Has exceeded every expectation I ever had for a vehicle... I wish I would have known years ago!! Nuff said
STFU we have had our 2010 jeep grand Cherokee for almost 8 years and we have putt almost 300,000 miles on it and it still runs perfectly everyone should have a grand Cherokee in my opinion
My wife has a 2018 grand Cherokee 4 years old now somehow water leaked into the radio screen, had to replace to engine mount. Has a starting issue with the button that my mechanic and the dealer could not figure out and is currently in the shop to have the master cylinder replaced all at only 60k I’m not very happy with it
I had a 2011 and I agree with you all the way! It was the worst vehicle I have ever owned. That thing was nothing but problems from day one. I have been a mechanic for over 30 years and it was the worst vehicle I have dealt with other than Fiats.
Dude nice video, man I'm on my second Mercedes. I would never buy a Mercedes again. You had so many recalls on the Jeep...I had 5 recalls on my 2017 GLC 300. By now I would go get a Kia it might be more reasonable thwn the Benz.
they have a new 8 speed transmission and a new engine now. this is a great used car review tho if your buing a 5 year old jeep. cant compare this to a 2016-2017 model.
I agree with you, I have an 8 speed 2015 and I have not noticed the same problem however I have only driven it a couple of times. However I do not like the gear selector it is a bit strange to use.
Shiftaholics yea the 2015 model have a recall on all of them or that weird shifter. You contact jeep and they will change it free of charge they have too. Might even give you a loaner. But they must change it.
It's funny when I see people talking about American made and German and Japanese. You know most if not all these vehicles parts are made at the same locations and assembled at the same place right.
This generation of grand cherokee wk2 on a solid frame, the new wl is no longer available, the dealer in Australia sent me with regards to the welded frame in wk2: Monocoque Body with Built-in Ladder Frame They say that superior off-road handling capability could only come at the expense of on-road smoothness. They have obviously never driven grand cherokee . By incorporating a lightweight and highly rigid monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame that provides added resistance to torsion and flexing and fixing them atop a dynamic independent suspension, Grand cherokee achieves an unprecedented combination of all-terrain control and luxury-sedan comfort. For added durability, grand cherokee now makes more extensive use of galvanized steel body panels, while the new aluminum hood panel reduces weight for better handling. very durable strong suv grand cherokee and relieble
My 2011 JGC 3.6 4X4 have 232k Miles still going strong but now I need a Transfer Case but other than that it's a good truck. My next vehicle I will try to purchase soon is a 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma.
I have a wunderfull Chrysler 300c 3.0 CRD Touring and am considering trading it in for the Cherokee 3.0 Diesel....After this informative good video I will think twice about whether to do it. Thanks! Nice and honest explanation!
I was curious about some of the earlier comments so I spent some time researching Jeep Cherokee. What I found was not good. Since Fiat got Chrysler they have been having reliability issues. WK2 Grand Cherokee has some big problems. According to consumer reports the Cherokee has an extremely poor reliability rating According to their studies. Even some Fiat Chrysler tech. will admit almost all of the cars that come in for repairs are Cherokees. The most common problem for them are their transmissions. Jerking, slipping and over all poor performance are especially common in the 2015 models. The cost to repair it is around $7,500.00 The complaints there have died down a lot now in the new ones. There is a rather long list of other issues with the WK Cherokee that is too long to list like electrical issues, suspension issues, gasket problems. The KL has it's issues as well. It also has transmission issues which seem to be mostly software issues. People in the forums complain a lot about this model Cherokee complaining about taking it to the shop A LOT! Consumer Reports said many owners suggest getting an extended warranty as they REALLY needed it. The JK Wrangler seems to have an average reliability rating. Once lifted suspension and drive line components seem to wear out faster. These owners recommend buying an extended warranty for this vehicle as well. If you l0ook at J.D. Power and Associates the 2013 Wrangler has an overall dependability rating of 2 out of five and the Cherokee has a dependability rating of 3 out of 5. They are both pretty far down the list of reliable vehicles. Looking at their study, Jeep Dodge, Ram and Chrysler all are in the top ten of least reliable vehicles in the United States. So from everything I read from Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates your video sounds about right. Some people buy something and will never be honest about it for some reason. I just spent a few hours reading over some reports and reviews and got all the information I needed pretty quick. I also looked up their recall history. They have issues with recalls more than other brands such as Ford, Chevy and Toyota. I also found more serious recalls with Fiat, Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler. Especially with Fiat. WOW! Those things are JUNK!! It rated Fiat as one of the worst resale values of any car you can buy. One models shows to lose 73% of its value in the first five years.
I too went straight to the comments... I believe that anyone that complains or has issues with the Grand Cherokees either have bad luck with life and happened to get a "lemon", it happens, or they just have JDS / GCDS... (Kinda like TDS), hate it to just hate it... I have / had a 2011 Laredo and I loved the hell out of it... bought it in 2016 with 87K, now has 178K. It's been an excellent vehicle. I maintained it and did small mods over time, even spent $700 for a modern Tesla screen.... However, I just lost her to hurricane Helene. It got flooded out, all they way up and over the center console... I'm really sad about it, but shit happens. I love the Grand Cherokee that my replacement is a 2015 Limited with 107.5K. And knowing that they are excellent vehicles, I'm ok with that mileage...
Yes as I watch this Video my car jeep 2007 broke down.. only 109,00 miles on it.. it's crazy my hubby had a Toyota 2004, 300,000 and it runs great.. I love my jeep but I'm done with it..
Thanks for this review I actually wish I have seen it before buying mine :( Next day I purchased it didn’t want to start ... is being in the Dodge dealership for2 Weeks now getting 3 recalls done :( and still not sure if it’s going to fix the problems ! :(((
Not new :( I got a 2011 with 150k miles. Apparently the recalls did fix the problems but hey it was big pain in the a** having it there for almost 3 weeks! not fun at all! so We’ll see how it goes now...
I appreciate your honesty and i was looking for a genuine Jeep Grand Cherokee owner's opinion because i've just found a 2014 Overland model on a very good price, but at the same i'm between the Jeep and a brand new Mercedes GLC. I'm currently leaning onto Jeep choice but it would be really interesting to hear your opinion about this.
Thanks man. The Overland is a nice looking Jeep, but I drove the GLC and I think it handles much better on the road then the Jeep, however the Jeep has a few advantages: Size, Off Road Capabilities, and Price. Also I do not have any historical ownership data on the GLC so I do not know how it is to own. I just think the GLC handling is more predicable specially when you are really coming close to its limit. I say test get a solid price on both cars test drive them and then decide based on everything you know. Good luck!
I appreciate your true and honest review.I am thinking to buy GC limited fully loaded because of price which comes for 40K.But hesitating to buy due to dealers attitude. I feel it is better to shift to German than American.its my opinion as I am neither American nor European
I have seen people talk about fuel economy on the Jeep that it is good. I had a 2019 rental, with all the bells and whistles. The tank is 100 litres. I expected better fuel economy. I did highway driving for 2 days, and city driving for 3 days. Jeeps are not cheap. They cost as much or even more that $80,000
I agree 100 % with you. I also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and have the same fealings.... for the price, suspension and 4x4 maners yes... but I do prefeer my BMW X1 for the road... It is a mixed feeling withese Grand Cherokees. I do like how it looks !! compared with the riduculus Cherokees !!! jaja.. Thank you for your time.... I agree with you.... From Bogota, Colombia....
When you say you don't like American cars you're automatically biased in your review. The vast majority of recalls are because manufacturers have to meet stringent safety regulations not because there is actually something wrong with your vehicle. Personally I'm happy these manufacturers are looking out for me long after the purchase.
I am a mechanic for over thirty years. We deal with recalls but on the Toyota side. Your comment that most recalls are from stringent safety regulations is absolutely FALSE!! Which recall do you want to discuss? Maybe the Ford trucks catching on fire due to the ignition? How about Chevy trucks and the bolts fell out of the steering at around 5,000 miles because the bolts were so lose? How many people were killed because of that? How about massive transmission failure that plagues Chrysler like the Truck and Grand Cherokee? How about problems with fire because of their wiring? How abut the fact that Grand Cherokees had a huge problem with roll overs until Chrysler FINALLY stepped up and addressed it? How about the fact that Chrysler is KNOWN for producing junk? Now they even produce other peoples junk!! Chrysler went so far down it was purchased by Fiat!!!! How BAD do your cars have to be when your purchased by Fiat?? It's not rare at all for a Fiat motor to go out at 13,000 miles!! The Jeep Renegade has NOTHING to do with Jeep!! It has a Fiat motor, Fiat transmission, Fiat chassis! It's Fiat bumper to bumper! ShHOCKER…………...the Jeep Renegade is a piece of junk! A lot of people don't know that they are being tricked into buying a Fiat!! What the problems they are having with crash tests?? Why is it Toyota ABSOLUTELY kills Jeep in sales? When it comes to gas mileage Jeep is at the bottom. We have had FAR too many Jeep products in our shop for ANYONE to try and bullshit me into believing they are great and reliable cars!!! Your going to have to sell that shit somewhere else!!
When you buy garbage you get garbage (chrissler products,MB, BMW, Audi, land Rover,Ferrari, alpha Romeo, Maserati,Fiat, Jaguar) all of them are great at making disposable trash with wheels. All those companies should pay Toyota to teach them how to make cars.
Once Renault took over it was all about cheaper ways to build their cars to increase profit margin. The president of Renault gave his big beginning of the year speech and said the goal for 2019 was not to sell more cars but to increase profit margin. That tells you a lot! ha The Cherokee has a lot of transmission issues over the years. If you go back and pull up the recall list on them the transmission just continues to pop up. They have a number of recalls for electrical issues for the last 13 years. Our Cherokee was on it's 13th recall when we parked it and bought a Toyota. The latest recalls involve the cruise control rapidly speeding up and will not shut off. for the 2017 model there have been 7 cruise control issues reported alone. problems with it speeding up showed up on models with as little as 9,000 miles on them. The issue continues to be reported and recalled for the 2019 model. They also recalled the Jeep Cherokee for roll away risks. This issue was made famous when actor Anton Yelchin was killed when his Cherokee began to roll and pinned him against a wall.
I never had any issue with my grand cherokee laredo sport utility 2012.... Of course if you buy car outside on the street you don't now their historial

I have a jeep gran cherokee lareso 2013 with 300k miles with no issues i Just replace the trasmissión but still in the road pretty well
Obviously when you do a 90° turn going Mach 12 the car is probably going to tip over
Is it crap or it is awesome? I got a 2011 and i love it. Never had a problem with it
How many miles do you have on yours?
I like the video! You explained everything in a timely manner and they seem like well-founded complaints. I have no idea why so many people dislike this video.
i have the overland summit and i love my jeep
Hey my brother just want to ask some questions about the overload/summit.I have one also what year is yours?I have a 2013.
Idk why there is so many dislikes on this video but its not because of your personality. I think you're super chill and the video was very informative. keep up the good work and don't let the haters bring you down
Many thanks!
Because most of the video is words like, ummm, uhhhhh, derrr, and, uuummm , uhhh
2013 and lower don’t have all the bells and whistles if you buy start 2014 and up
2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 141K miles. No issues as of yet. Only oil changes and preventative maintenance.
2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 v8 240,000 miles brakes tires oil changes still runs like a top all electrical works .. So what’s the problem I’ve had Zero issues
That was not a review, bro. That was a rant.
i have jeep cherokee wj 200k from 15 year and running beautifully with no problem from 15 year
2016 model. Front brake calliper siezed at 48000km…. fried the pads and rotor. Transmission fried at 96000km. Excessive valve train noise at 135000km. Babied since day 1!
I must be doing something wrong absolutely nothing wrong with mine 5.7 Hemi limited
Its because you have the 5.7. Its the new 3.6 that has many issues .
Nuff said
Keep in mind, they don't make em like that anymore. That's like comparing young Brigitte Bardot to Kamala Harris....😁
I hear your pain as I have the same issues with my jeep...
I had a 99, wit 260k. Still running when i offed it..
3 reasons that takes 19 minutes
Thank you I was looking at buying a 2012 model I read that the newer ones are junk was hoping the 2012 was not
You have been mechanic for 30 years and still bought one of these? Which part is not true!?
have the 2011 very happy, only minor issues
i think the dealer is screwing you for the insurance..
John Doe is a 2011 with 100,000 miles on it for $11,000 good
Dude got a Laredo , and talking about them in general
Laredo is just the option pack. Limited's leather seats wont make it more reliable
Most awarded SUV on the road.... get out of here.
That doesn't mean shit
Carlos Arias exactly. They give out 5 stars and awards like participation medals for children
Just got my 2013 6 months ago engine got hot blew up now we're replacing the engine
honest review. thank you.
All American cars have a lot of recalls on them , just like my grandpa 2010 Chevy traverse
I own a 22 years old jeep grand cherokee i love that old car never any problems
Zakia Okellouch the old ones were really good. They lost quality down the road. That’s why some people prefer to buy used gc’s.
It's funny when I see people talking about American made and German and Japanese. You know most if not all these vehicles parts are made at the same locations and assembled at the same place right.
This generation of grand cherokee wk2 on a solid frame, the new wl is no longer available, the dealer in Australia sent me with regards to the welded frame in wk2:
Monocoque Body with Built-in Ladder Frame
They say that superior off-road handling capability could only come at the expense of on-road smoothness.
I had a 2007 GC, it was a really good car.
My air ride suspension is a mess. I can’t get a new ASCM because of chip shortages, and it’s a nightmare to drive.
I’ve got my eyes on a 2011 with a 5.7, they want 8500 for it but it has 180,000 miles on it?…
Cherokees are not even in the same class as Grand Cherokees. Two different vehicles. One is subpar to begin with, the other is a higher level vehicle.
Lucia Garcia why are you comparing a Jeep with a Toyota, it’s Toyota ofc they’re the most reliable cars. My GC 80k miles running great
Thanks for this review I actually wish I have seen it before buying mine :( Next day I purchased it didn’t want to start ... is being in the Dodge dealership for2 Weeks now getting 3 recalls done :( and still not sure if it’s going to fix the problems ! :(((
Guadalupe Meraz
Hi what year did you get? And was it new? Thinking about buying one😭
Not new :( I got a 2011 with 150k miles. Apparently the recalls did fix the problems but hey it was big pain in the a** having it there for almost 3 weeks! not fun at all! so We’ll see how it goes now...
@@g.m.diylife7169 how did it go 🤔?????!
I appreciate your honesty and i was looking for a genuine Jeep Grand Cherokee owner's opinion because
i've just found a 2014 Overland model on a very good price, but at the same i'm between the Jeep and a brand new Mercedes GLC.
Good luck!
Get the GLC, far more reliable and durable
transmission on my 2012 Laredo just when to shit......103K miles, and now $3K on repairs damn it
My dad has Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014 SRT 0 - 100 kph 4.6 seconds 😮
Lame
@NAKAI ANASAZI Ford pickup truck gang, we ouchea towing Jeeps and mogging soyboys
@@tomahawkstudios9688 ahhh ur my man ..
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 90k miles, changed the tires, regular maintenance other than that no problems
Maybe i'm lucky?
Best looking Suv imo
Stop lying to yourself mate you're driving a Shitbox Google them they're the biggest lemons in the world and dangerous and lethal and kill people
In my experience the major problems on this jeeps are the suspension control arm bushings bad quality! Also the leather
I appreciate your true and honest review.I am thinking to buy GC limited fully loaded because of price which comes for 40K.But hesitating to buy due to dealers attitude.
I feel it is better to shift to German than American.its my opinion as I am neither American nor European
I agree with you man, if you can afford to go German that is the best option, just not as cost effective. Good luck!
Thanks man, best of luck!
YOUR HIGH
My local mechanic says Jeeps are good machines. He actually told me that most of his repairs are Chevrolet trucks.
I have seen people talk about fuel economy on the Jeep that it is good. I had a 2019 rental, with all the bells and whistles. The tank is 100 litres. I expected better fuel economy. I did highway driving for 2 days, and city driving for 3 days. Jeeps are not cheap. They cost as much or even more that $80,000
i think you like the izusu trooper 87 or maybe huyndai grace
Hmm I bought mine in 2011 with 195 miles on it now at 114,000 and I never had issues with it.. just your typical maintenance that’s all
Is your Jeep still running good?
Sandra Carter haha I forgot about this comment I made 9 months ago... but yeah now at 123820 miles and still going strong
@@daviddaupert4685 3.6?
I'm lost dude! Someone please translate in sense??
When you buy garbage you get garbage (chrissler products,MB, BMW, Audi, land Rover,Ferrari, alpha Romeo, Maserati,Fiat, Jaguar) all of them are great at making disposable trash with wheels. All those companies should pay Toyota to teach them how to make cars.
Forget Toyota!
what??? i had a 2015 limited and it was perfect!!!!! 0 problems and attractive to women as fuck
