The legal age to "posses and transport" a handgun in Oregon is 18. My daughter is 19, a legal resident of Kansas but attending college in Oregon. Can she legally posses and transport a handgun in Oregon?
Be careful with the definition of the competency course. The course consists of the rules, regulations, and State laws surrounding fire arm carry. The class does not include, safety in handling, or shooting.
The course I took covered law, safety and shooting weapons. I misplaced the certificate and only found it recently. When going to a range they have their own course that has to be completed before shooting. I took gun safety classes as a teenager. The first gun I handled was my father's 22 rifle when I was three years old. Having seen rifles and hand guns on TV I knew it it was dangerous and handled it with respect. My younger brother and I took it out of the case and looked it over, and then put it back. Not all children are as respectful as my brother and I. I always kept the guns I owned, as an adult, locked in a metal cabinet.
Where did you take the training? The reason is that Oregon doesn't require hands-on training. Don't get me wrong, I believe anyone handling a firearm should have at least basic knowledge.
@@j.alanmersereau9970 I used to work for Leupold and Steven's and took my training through their approved training company. Leupold is very serious about the handling of weapons. I used to be on their shooting team until the safety broke off my Taurus Millennium 2000 pistol.
Could you update this. You did a great job, thank you.

How about buying a firearm from your father? Do I need to get it in my name?
Not if he gifts you the firearm or passes it down to you 🫡
