Al the hunter! Great work defending off the homestead from the stench of evil! Figaro is lucky you don't have a quick trigger finger too. And that thumbnail is GOLD!
That was great. I burst out laughing a couple of times when you kitted up to tackle the skunks. Hilarious. I would have draped myself in super large garbage bags. Glad you didn't get sprayed. Probably you did lock them in the night before. I guess from now on you have to do a pre-lock up reconnaissance mission because now the skunks know where to find eggs.

I’ve dealt with several skunks in the barns, and even under the house! That was a fun one. Everyone laughs except for the the guy fighting the skunk. Lol.
When I live trap skunks, I approach the trap behind a tarp, hold the tarp liked a wall, they won't spay until they see an animal ie you, plus your behind a tarp, if you need a free hand, wrap the tarp over a pole so it's held open.
I'm laughing my head off. That was funny. I think I've got to watch the couple more times or I go show it to the grandkids. Thanks for the entertainment
New Yolk City fence is under the tree with overhanging branches. The skunks climbed the tree and navigated the overhanging branches to get into the chicken yard around New Yolk City. Move the fence away from the tree, or enclose all the tree in the fencing.

Candide Thirtythree The newest way to get rid of skunk spray is 3 cups baking soda 1/4 cup of dish soap or simple green and 2 cups of peroxide. Mix well and rub into the poor person or animal and wash off. Repeat as needed. It worked well for my poor neighbors when they surprised a skunk at 1am. Luckily for them they had closed the car door just a few seconds before it was startled. LOL
Great work with the excavator! As for the skunks - I had a skunk try to make its home under my chicken coop. I ran bright lights on the coop for two weeks. The lights ran the skunks off. They hate bright lights. My guess is the skunks will be back. Easy to get eggs are worth it for them.

For your sake I hope the skunks don’t come back, but for our entertainment I am hoping something interesting in the near future for us .... lol stay safe Lumnah family God bless y’all
Those were some BIG juveniles. The mama must be huge. Glad Figaro didn't get caught in your crosshairs as he was helping checkout the hen house with you.
OMG when you came out of the house with all your gear on, loaded for bear I roared with laughter! It was sooo funny! Thank goodness you and Olivia didn't get sprayed. 🤭😆
OH NOOO!! I HATE SKUNKS!! I watch your utube every day now. I miss our little farm and it makes me feel like part of your family by being able to watch your daily routines. Keep up your positive attitudes, you are a beautiful family and you bring joy to others.
Haha haha. Loved this video! It cracked me up! The look on Olivia's face! Priceless! To think you were smelling it so strong when you let the chickens out and they were in there the entire time. Now that they know where the eggs are they will be back. I dont mind the smell of skunk but I def don't want to be sprayed by one. We had a skunk visitor to the farm and my dog wanted to "play" with it. Thank goodness she listens, so she didn't get sprayed but it sure didn't want to leave.
I've had to shoot many skunks in my day, only 1 didn't spray when I shot it , I sivered the spinal coard when I shot it! I had to shoot one in side the barn once ! Whew, I don't want to do that again!

Back in another life for me, we had chickens and my then hubby (now departed) he had to shoot them inside the chicken house, I remember that night for sure. I agree you should have sniped them and put them down. Good luck avoiding anymore shenanigans from skunks.
What a great video! I'm grateful that all of your chickens survived. I laughed a little too hard at "clearing" New Yolk City and your tactical gear was epic!
They can spray as tiny babies,so for sure those guys could spray. I used to work at a wildlife rehab and even the tiny, eyes just open babies could spray if startled.
As one who has come nose-to-nose with a big mama skunk and her six new born babies I can fully understand your surprise. I could have gone viral if someone had been filming. Not something I want to repeat!
Get a live skunk trap and bait it with eggs quickly before they're back again. If you get an open version you can kill them from a far with your gun, and if Figaro or anyone else gets trapped you can just let them out again.
@@LumnahAcres Ever get the live trap and get rid of them? Once upon a time I had skunk problems eating the feral cat's food in the stables. I caught cats, raccoons and skunks in live traps. When released, the cats never ventured inside one again, but the others were taken for a "ride" then disposed of. So how was I able to put a live skunk into the back of my RTV (side-by-side)? Very carefully. I found that if they could not see me (feet, hands, head, etc.), and I moved slowly, they would not spray. Here's how: with something large, like a beach towel, cardboard, paper sack, walk up very slowly with it in front of you so you are hidden. Very slowly cover the cage. Do nothing suddenly. Now you can pick up the cage by the top handle and carefully move it to where you need. As mentioned I put it in the back of the RTV and drove off. As long as the skunk never sees you, all is well. I placed the cage on the ground in the middle of a pasture and opened the end. When the skunk walked out and wandered off a safe distance, I made sure it never returns.
You can use vinegar and baking soda as a cleaning agent to help cut the smell. I use it on dogs that have been skunked but it can also be used on bedding, kennels, runs, etc. It's about the only thing that will help....but every time it gets wet, it will revive the smell a bit.
Might want to see Doug & Stacey’s video on Skunk spray remedy, probably good to have on hand. They will most likely be back now they have a taste for eggs. Memories from childhood farm came back when you were describing the smell, dad shot one under our front porch. It smelt forever!
The apple wood you have cut and even maybe the roots (but not sure on them) would be good to keep and use in the smoker. I have heard others use apple wood like this.

With your boulder.. Maybe try digging all around it. Deep enough on one side to roll it into that hole...(deep as you can) I've buried a lot of things to big to pick up.... But i could push them... Just a thought...
Following up on this comment. I would have moved to the opposite side if the boulder and continued digging on each side to loosen the dirt around the boulder. Then reach over the boulder and try and pull the bucket under the stone and lift it up to get it lose from the dirt. The closer you are to the center pin of the excavator the more lift and pull you have. If you can get it to wiggle then you may be able to roll it out of the hole. Once you can move it either leave it exposed for a climbing rock pile or dig the hole deeper and bury it below the surface and let the pasture grow over it. That is a small machine and those big rocks can easily overpower it. Good luck.
oh no AL hope ya have dawn dish soap, peroxide, and baking soda gets rid of the skunk smell,, works good on dogs to.. no AL i found out the hard way many years ago that skunks can spray as soon as they can see..oh the stories of where i have found them and the many ways i took care of them i could tell.. have a blessed and safe day
skunks are like ferrets, if they can get their nose into a hole they can squeeze their whole body through. I've been sprayed once and it's not pleasant, I was physically sick for about 3 days. Glad you and your daughter are ok.
About five years ago I had a family of skunks who set up house keeping under my house. One night I was rudely awaken to a smell so strong til I literally gaged me. I had no idea how to lear them into my trap until the morning I caught a baby skunk on my back porch eating my cat food. I bought me some tuna, dripped the juice into a line towards the trap, put a bit of the tuna at the front and put the rest of the can in the back. I caught 13 that year!! Once I caught a baby and a mama together! Showed me a very good illustration of how important it is to lead your children in the right direction in life! My trap was set up just off my back porch. I could stand on my porch and quietly drop a blanket over the trap. Skunks won't spray you if the are covered, I'm told. It worked for me. I had a horse trough setting beside the trap. I would then walk down off the porch, get ahold of the trap and quickly lower it into the trough, trap, blanket and skunk for a simple baptismal! Yeah, I'm a 66year old grandma who lives by myself and had no other options. Did you know that animal catchers won't come and get trapped skunks? Ours won't. So ya gotta do what you gotta do! I know have a 100 Bassett hound that keeps the varmints away.
Have you guys been to Owl’s Head in Groton State Park. It’s a must in the fall. Keep a large 48oz can of tomato juice to wash any animal that gets skunked.
Great video as always! I love that Olivia had her hand over her heart like it was beating out of her chest when you opened the egg door. Poor kid, got her adrenaline pumping :0 How did the skunks get past the electric poultry netting?
Febreeze is a decent skunk stink treatment. We try to have a gallon of it around just in case. Its awesome to see how much you have got done this year, you must be pleased. I do have a question.....have you ever considered New Hampshire Red Chickens?
They always find a way in!! Your lucky Al I had 3 get in my coop with meat chickens and they killed 10 of them and had them in layers coop and they killed 5
Oh Al. Skunks can spray from when they are very small, you just didn't corner those ones. I lived in a rental place that in less than two years, trapped, shot, and killed 28 of the damn things. I did learn from an old trapper guy that when you shoot them you take the chance of them spraying if you don't hit them right. He advised gut shooting them, for some reason they won't spray when you do and they'll go off somewhere to die. Just make sure they can't get up under your house, garage or any building you need to spend anytime in. I did about the last 6 that way and he was right.
So good you and Olivia did not get sprayed! What an adventure! Thanks for taking us along!

Right.

That is a small machine and those big rocks can easily overpower it. Good luck.

russ sherwood =5
Eggs and chicken feed. Two favorite foods of a skunk. Probably nesting in a burrow close by
Oh my goodness, that was hilarious and amazing!!
Nice job moving those stumps. Crazy day!
I am always watching your daily videos, and I think this is the funniest one or one of the funniest you have 😂😂
skunks are like ferrets, if they can get their nose into a hole they can squeeze their whole body through.
Olivia and you were so brave😊👍😊
Great video as always! I love that Olivia had her hand over her heart like it was beating out of her chest when you opened the egg door. Poor kid, got her adrenaline pumping :0 How did the skunks get past the electric poultry netting?
5:40 - if you watch Moose come out of New Yolk City, he's walking like he's "drunk"! 😂
I’m afraid I laughed a lot about the skunk hunt! Lol😂😂😂😂
Febreeze is a decent skunk stink treatment. We try to have a gallon of it around just in case. Its awesome to see how much you have got done this year, you must be pleased. I do have a question.....have you ever considered New Hampshire Red Chickens?
Oh don't let Pluto out!!! Then again, Stacy's antistink concoction worked for their dog 😉
Hahaha reminded me of bill murray in Caddyshack. I'm wondering how they got past the electric fencing??? Figaro almost got blasted!!
Your tactical set up reminded me of the movie Caddyshack. lol
I love your pig's
Wow! I need that backhoe here at my house! That thing works wonders!
They always find a way in!! Your lucky Al I had 3 get in my coop with meat chickens and they killed 10 of them and had them in layers coop and they killed 5
Thourghly enjoyed this video! Thankx 4 sharing
