    I have always felt DMX was too technical for the average DJ. Its utterly frustrating and I never really understood why the likes of ADJ & Chauvet didn't develop something like this ages ago. Plug and play is needed and I am glad these start ups are showing the main stream lighting companies what DJ's really want from their lighting.

    *_Here I heard a real understanding of the problem faced by a DJ who wants to use music visualization in his performances. I'm not a DJ , but I also believe that a DJ needs to focus on music in his work. Modern lighting control systems are systems for programming the sequence of operation of lighting devices, plus the possibility of a manual control panel. As a result, it turns out that the DJ must pre-program the sequence of lighting control, and then turn it all on during his performance, and then control it so that the light matches the theme and rhythm of the music. And for a new performance, come up with a new light show. Then the question arises, when to make music?_*
    * _I have been involved in real-time music visualization technology for a long time. I created a concept for myself and I build music visualizers based on it. For these devices, you just need to apply an audio signal to the input, and everything else, as they say, is a matter of technology. I do not have the opportunity to demonstrate the operation of this technology on modern lighting devices, but it is possible to demonstrate the operation on the same type of light sources with 1D linear type visualization._*
    *_To popularize this approach to music visualization, I make a demo video where I connect the visualization to a real piece of music and record the result of the music visualization in real time. Please note that I record throughout the entire track, and do not edit the video and do not show some kind of successful light moment. I show how the technology I created really works. My work is aimed at creating a connection between music and light, when the music itself creates a visualization._*
    *_If you are interested in my story, go to my channel and evaluate the work of this visualization technology, I will be grateful for your feedback._*

    But if you could let AI manage your lights, why don't let AI mix for you? Sort answer could be reading the floor, and the same applies to lighting.
    I could assure light a club (in this particular case) is about reading the floor too, be aware of some specialities of venue (as dim more VIP zones, or don't throw frontal light to DJ, take care of some colors with some music styles...). Maybe AI lights is an option for wedding DJs or small clubs, but even in those cases, there are some professional and free (or almost) software, like Chamsys or Onyx M-PC to program some scenes or controls specially to venue or setup yo have and make reactive to sound, control with tablet and more. But as producing in any DAW, you need to learn something or hire someone to make things happen.
    I'm talking as a former DJ who enters lighting world when tried to "automatise" lights 😅 (and yes, has tooo much things involved).
    Regards

    There's actually nothing smart going on here. Everyone with a decent knowledge of programming and arduino could do this. It would be really impressive if you could tell an AI how your stage is set up, then set certain sensitivities up on certain freqency ranges, and then appoint addresses to those. Now you're actually telling a program to create a random reaction pattern based on the volume of certain frequencies, which honestly isn't all that impressive and has nothing to do with AI.

  • @elephantgrass631
    @elephantgrass631 14 дней назад

    You're not down for AI working it's way into DJ software? I hate to break it to you bud, but AI is already here. In order to not be replaced, you have to be a above what DJs are doing today. Maybe it's high time for DJs to be actual musicians instead of playing other people's music and thinking they're musical. The only DJs doing that are doing that turntablists.

  • @mrhalloweenguy
    @mrhalloweenguy Год назад +2

    This is amazing for the average DJ… however unless it has some smart limits( Chauvet mover totem mode, dmx range, and brightness limits) built in to keep people being blasted in the face all night, then just like “sound switch” it is still just a very smart “sound active mode” technology. To be honest it’s the sloppy “sound active “DJ’s that give wedding lighting a bad name. This looks better suited for bands and stage shows, but even those need some manual intervention at unexpected moments. For more advanced lighting techs it needs a hybrid solution, part AI and part manual.

    its funny that they keep advertising "more profits" and it being beneficial for the industy.. all this will do is undercut more people as the industry has been doing as per usual.
    If a tool is seperated from you just buying it rather then finding a skilled person then the entry points/standards just drop.
    Something tells me as well this "ai tool" is just an auto show mode with a pallete picker and a tiny bit of prediction... so I can imagine the shows to look very stale very fast...
    Also all these "AI tools" don't know the rig positioning, layout.. so how can it possibly make any reasonable decisions other then knowing what the fixture is.

    • @djtravismcguire
      @djtravismcguire  Год назад +4

      You might be looking at it a little too deep though. The true intention of these devices are to help out the working DJ or a band that does understand DMX lighting. A lot of people don't have the money to hire a professional Light Designer and this would be a good option for them in that case. I like it from a mobile DJ standpoint that I don't have to think about what my next lighting move is going to be and instead I can focus on what I'm mixing or interacting with the crowd. I'm also Father to and I don't have time to sit down and program light shows for hours and hours and hours and hours on end. And as far as Maestro DMX is, I don't know if you're able to actually lay out your rig or not. I've not yet seen the actual app itself, but as you can see from the videos I used in my video, they have some pretty elaborate light systems and they produced some pretty dramatic effect the reality of it is this, If people really think AI is going to truly take over their jobs as a DJ or lighting designer, then they should just sell their stuff now and find a different job. It's not going to replace anything. How many times, over and over did we hear is DJ's that we were going to be replaced by the iPod, that never happened. How many times have you seen DJs complaining on social media about these little mobile jukeboxes that you can rent replacing us. Yep, that didn't happen either. Our industry has survived the worst recession since the Great Depression and a worldwide pandemic. We're not going anywhere. AI will still never be able to replace human intellect, all it can do is mimic it.
