For anyone who wants the 8 voice chorus settings, they are:
The depth is set to 30 on all 8 voices
The first 4 voices are panned hard left, the other 4 hard right.
Delay times and rates are below
V1 Delay = 2 Rate = 10
V2 Delay = 6 Rate = 15
V3 Delay = 10 Rate = 20
V4 Delay = 14 Rate = 25
V5 Delay = 4 Rate = 12
V6 Delay = 8 Rate = 18
V7 Delay = 12 Rate = 22
V8 Delay = 16 Rate = 30
Thanks Leon! As a pedal guy I’m still pretty overwhelmed by this unit and especially by these 8 voices 😅 This is a great help!
This was a staple in my rig. I would use this with an ADA MP-1 and an Aphex Aural Exciter Type C with a MESA 50/50 and a Laney Cab. I don't care what anyone said, I loved it.
I still have my original MP-1, Intellifex, Alesis Quadraverb, Peavey Classic 60/60 power amp and Trace Elliott 2x12. Still fire them up sometimes. Pure heaven, really.
does it have harmonizer?
@@lovecraftmusic8717 it did actually, not sure if it changed in later versions. I had an early one.
@@briangradysyndrome thanks
Indeed, I also used the chrome face intellifex with my MP-1 3TM and a Furman PQ-6...
Dear Leon please do a video of you playing 'Ambient' guitar for around an hour. Total relaxing sound I love it!
This thing sounds incredible, I've always loved rocktron gear.
Soooo gooood , Leon these tones are killer indeed!
This unit sounds amazing man! Great tones as always.
The No More Tears tone made me well up a bit. Nice playin' Leon.
I love the intellifex. I have two of them. Also, Rocktron used to make the Utopia floor unit, which is an intellifex with a preamp,in it too. They can be found as new old stock for around $200. Does all the same stuff plus the preamp section. It's just great. The price for these things is insane. I have 3 utopia multi effects units. Dude, you are preaching to the choir. Great job. Rock on.
yessssss!!!
I've had mine for 28 years and still play through it every day with my JCM. it truly shines in stereo. with the advantage of midi (instead of the pedal dance and having to mess with knobs if you want to change settings), i have never wanted for anything else.
great review Leon! thanks for showing the Intellifex some love.
Yeaaaa bought one of these in the 80's ,paid 800.00 bucks for it ,one of the only things i have from back then still ,I love it
me too bro
I was shopping around a chorus pedal to make my lead guitar sound loopy and huge when I stumbled upon this vid. I picked up one on Ebay and it's really sweet. Thanks Leon!
I had one of these way back in early 90s. Loved it. This and the classic Mesa Triaxes/90 Simi class were the holy grail.
Will have to fire up my Triaxis and 2:Fifty with it soon
Great demo of my fave rack. I bought mine in 1995 and still use it with my Marshall JMP1. I have tried nearly all the stuff in the past 25 years but the Intellifex still stands up and people who hear it are blown away by the chorus and delays. Good demo and I must check out the patches you used!
I been using mine for almost 30 years now. Still works great!
I always love your dirty tone ! Heavy but clear at the same time
Well done and thanks for sharing brother! Great demo and description! Always had a soft spot for Rocktron gear as I'm from Michigan where they originated.
Still have a few of their boutique pedals which are pleasing and affordable. Be Well Leon!
That thing sounds amazing! It's not too over the top (which I'm sure you can set it like that). Really awesome tones my friend and as always, great playing and great video.
Took me ages to learn restraint with it !
I loved the delay and ambient stuff.
I love the 8 voice chorus!!!
Thanks for the vids!! Very informative and nice to listen to :)
My pleasure!
I love those old vacuum displays
Nice sounds!
The fact that you can buy this for 150e used in Europe makes it a total steal! If I hadn't invested a lot in plugins, I would be all over it. Nice new intro Leon, really dig it!
Absolute bargain. Rock solid build quality too.
thanks to your demos I bought myself an Intellifex. The 8 voice chorus is excellent in stereo. Im very happy with it.
Great to hear!
Killer Leon!!! Also, this was the first - or at least one of the first- FX boxes to have delay ducking.
They crammed a lot of cool stuff into it for the time
I bought one of these from Chandler Guitars, Kew Gardens, back in the early 90s. I’ve still go it, and it’s still knocking people for six.
I loved my intellifex LTD but decided to sell it a few years back..reason is I wasn't using it once I got the Rocktron Prophecy that I have til this day, ...Love it....!!! Cheers...!!
Cool. Very cool. I've only heard of these, but didn't know who actually used one. Very cool.
I've ysed a secind hand Intellifex LTD for over 20 years. What I loved about it is that it doesn't thin out the amp tone in the FX loop and the patch switch was really fast. Also, programming it is super easy, an example to other companies how to do it with no fuss. Also, it still sounds great
Whoa.. I feel like I just went to a John Sykes concert!
Love those chorus tones, especially the No More Tears and Cygnus X1 riffs :-) The detune isn't too bad either, though I prefer Eventide's version, which is rad. I'm mad for 80's rack effects.
I have one of these units...never been used in 15 yrs....mmm maybe I should get it wired up again....these fx sounds fab ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I still have a 4U rack of a Rocktron Pirahna, Replifex, this original black Intellifex, and a Velocity 300. Very dated and still a lot of fun to play through once in awhile.
I actually put an Epsi IR loader at the end of the chain, sans Velocity and ran it through my FRFRs with surprisingly good results. My KPA wouldn't look at me for a week!
Yea buddy!!! I was there, that's something I owned and used. Used to visit up there when they were in Rochester Michigan in the late 80's/early 90's. Sigh. Also had a bunch of other Rocktron gear too.
I've always loved the Rocktron and RSP Technologies rack effects. My main problem with them at the time which was common among all other rack units is that the modulation effects parameters for rate or speed, and the delay time for the Intellifex, were not beat-synchronizable to a time value set by the tap tempo control. In the past, I had to calculate the delay time for a given tempo with a calculator. Forget about it when it came to modulation rates/speeds since the values were 0 to 99. If they were expressed in cycles like Hz then I could run a tempo calculation but I was screwed that it wasn't. Otherwise, the effects on the Intellifex, Intelliverb, Voodo Valve, and Chameleon were fantastic.
Bought it because of this video!!!!!! May u kindly share that huge pitch detune sound settings, please? Cheers!
I still use these.
I tour and record with 2 of em.
Great chorus and 30ms for solos
Dig the logo, m'lord!
Still digging mine!
That's it! I want one right now.....
That detune sounds wicked.
Hello, thank you for the excellent demo!!! Would yu be so kind to share the "huge" pitch detune settings starting at 8:52, pleaes?Thank you and cheers from Italy!
Really like your channel, I have a old alesis q20 that I loved for vocals and guitar until I left it at a friend's and it mysteriously stopped working. I loved the reverb, delays and other effects although it didn't have any overdrive or distortion. If you find one I think you'll like some of the sounds. It's analog but has a block screen similar to the gt1000.
Alesis have had some great rack units over the years.
Thats a great video... I saw the link you listed for the patches but can you list which patches you used in each of the songs?
Nice tones Leon! I especially loved the Zakk Wylde No More Tears tone. Any pointers on how I might want attempt that tone with the Axe FX 3?
There's an 8 voice chorus in the chorus block but I'd probably use two multidelay blocks on parallel. I'll try do a vid.
OMG! I had an Intellifex back in the day. I loved every damn patch on that thing. Ran it with a Peavey VTM. Loved it! \m/ \m/
Killer rig. Those VTM's had some great features.
@@LeonTodd Yes they did. Best "under-rated" amp ever, imo. lol
When you chug the no more Tears bridge, deep chug the drop D everytime between the other chords (not the moving chords, but the low D in between them), I know because I play in an Ozzy tribute band in Dallas 👍🏼
I did have a rocket on chameleon as my first rack rig
I bought one because Frank Aresti from Fates Warning used one on Parallels. My favorite clean tones next to Alex Lifeson. I hate that it doesn't have a wet/dry mix control on the front panel though.
In the 70s, people would identify with other people through music. Jim Croce? We loved him. Elton John, we still love him. Some of these people lived alternative lifestyles but we listeners had compassion. They cracked a LOT of shells so to speak. And it continued. The whole of the world is very used to Rap music, and that was NWA somewhere late 80s, breaking new ground. Easy E is long gone, but he really rocked the world.
You’re the 2020 version of that Rockstar. I simply identify with you. And your band. And your music is exceptional. I may hide in the wings and encourage your sensitive side, or plead for your progressive side, gotta love social media. But you’re doing exceptional. The 80s were enormous. Yet sad, we lost a lot of people to substance abuse. It’s a difficult thing to watch, saying that first hand, so keep leading by example Leon.
You make every day one of hope. To the future.
Playing music is very much it's own reward, but connecting with other human beings is the big upshot i get out of it.
Hi Leon, forgot to say the bright plasma display is a great feature too. Way better than LCD windows. We must live in a parallel universe as I started out with a Digitech DSP21 then Legend (not bad) then a terrible Peavey rack. Also I have a TSL head in my never sell pile! One pedal I would die for is a chrome 1970’s Power Wah Boost, mine died and never able to buy/find another
I just pulled my Intellefex Online out of the rack full of stuff I used in the 90’s. I figured that since the reverb from my Marshall was weak that it was worth a try. Considering it’s just been sitting in the garage for years.. why not. This thing is way better than I recall, it’s going through a parallel loop but it’s very transparent. This demo makes me want to fool with it a lot more. Cool tip, I have no desire to have a huge midi floor board again... I found that if you solder two wires to the bypass switch and place a jack on the back you can use a momentary foot switch to bypass it. Great demo, can you provide a link to where you’re finding Analogkid85’s patches?
great playing and vids as always but would defo be on the "not for me" side of the fence on this piece of gear.
That's killer man! what drive are you using when playing no more tears? thanks Leon!
I still got the Rocktron Pro Gap and still sounds great to my ears ..... but its a big learning curve as it has the Pre EQ / Gain / Bass / Post EQ /Treble so you really have to know the Frequencies well ...... I usually Boost +12 on 1.67 Htz Pre EQ and cut Bass -3 at 8000 and it sounds killer you could mimic so many amps if you know the EQ curves .....serious piece of gear lots of Pro guys used back in 80's-90's ...... Cheers.
Hi Leon. First and foremost, congrats on the amazing content. I’ve been watching your videos for a while… great combination of information and entertainment. Question, just considering the FX, which do you think worth more, the Intellifex or the Digitech 2120? About the intellifex, apart from the download feature is there any other difference between the online and Ltd? Thanks in advance and cheers from France.
For just fx I lean towards the intellifex since it has analog dry through. Not too sure about differences between the versions.
Have you ever tried the Rocktron Prophecy? thinking about getting a used one to mess around with.
2:22 awesome, that's like straight out of early Smashing Pumpkins demos :D
What was your source preamp? Rocktron or Fractal? How about a video playing through your Soldano Hot Rod 50, through your Marshall TV cab, with the Rocktron in the loop?
Sounds great! How does the Replifex compare?
Que Racks para un Gear básico recomiendas? Me refiero a un par de efectos y una potencia o algo así de bajo costo..saludos!👌
Currently using an On-Line teamed up with an LTD in my wet\dry rack rig. If you think one of these is amazing, try 2!
Phwoar! 16 voice chorus!
It made me want a plugin of an old yet good thing. Sadly, truth is I could re-create those tones but emulations give me joy. No judgment, please ;)
Hi Leon, great video, I love your tones, I just got an Intellifex today, I want to get an EVH style detune effect, do you think that is good enough? or do I have to go for an Eventide H9 or Micropitch to supplement the intelliflex?
Totally fine - just setup a two voice detune with +9c/-9c detune and a few ms delay
I love your reviews, specially these ones of racks! :-) I'm chasing a Peavey and Soldano, do you recommen any seller besides Reverb? I'm in Europe. Cheers from Portugal.
Ebay/Reverb is the only place for this stuff really atm. You could hit up Myasnikov and get him to build you a great Soldano clone though!
@@LeonTodd thanks mate, the problem is Customs...but I'll send them a message though. Rock on!
Still have mine from back in the day. It sits in my rack with a rocktron mAXE exciter and pre and post OD/EQ a rocktron GAP 1, Jackson JX3 OD powered by a Mesa Boogie 50/50 power amp and Mesa quad preamp.
One pre amp is a boogie Mark III and the other is a Mark II C +.
Running stereo thru Two Marshal JCM 800 cabs the slant cab has G12 85s and the bottom cab has 30 watt Green backs.
The black face intellifex is the one to have because the silver face version is just not as good.
I just bought a blackface intellifex. Is the 8 voice chorus a preset? Or do I have to manually enter that somehow? I don’t see it as a preset. Thanks!
Hello ! Ι Need help with my blackface. I have a problem to transfer sounds. for example. preset #32 to #6..
Im mapping the sounds... nothing happends... I m trying to export preset from sysex editor to intellifex with uno sport, when i am "store "
at "preset load" as exactly manual says never receiving nothing happends. But i did it once in the past... Any help pls? My head's down on the floor :@
Could you please make a video on how to program presets? I find it rather difficult compared to today's units.
It’s actually the easiest units to adjust and program, axe fx iii and new stuff is quite time consuming every time I had them lol
Still have 3 of them in my touring rig
I still use alot of Rocktron gear.
I Have an intellifex online, Intellipitch x2,Intelliverb,pro Q, and a power station.
Would it be possible to use the 8 voice chorus preset from the above units to achieve a 32 voice chorus effect?
YES!!!! Please do this
Good review Leon. Never thought the rocktron intelliflex sounded this good but never ever gave it a chance either...question though, can it get the 80's chorus sound? i.e. Robert Palmer, Richer Marx, Wang Chang, the fixx etc...
I don't see why not - the 8 voice chorus let's you control the rate/depth and delay time of each chorus voice so you should be able to dial in some of that classic 80's schmo!
@@LeonTodd Awesome thanks, Leon! Appreciate the feedback. And great job by the way!
I had an Intellifex and a Pro Gap back in the late 80’s / early 90’s and had killer tone!
I had been trying for decades to get them again, but they were either beat to hell or way overpriced. I just found both from an original owner in mint condition with original boxes and manuals!
Got it purely for nostalgia sake but can’t wait to fire them up this weekend!
That's awesome, bring on the tones!
Holy shit, I had one of those. I used it with my peavey valve king. It’s able to switch your amp channels and all.
Which version did you have?
@@LeonTodd same one you did. I used it with an art x15 foot controller. It did all the channel switching, boost on/off, and fx for me. I got two intellifex and a powder blue chameleon preamp with rolling case on trade for a 7 string guitar. I've since got the guitar back and switched to Eleven rack, then helix for fx.. I have to say, for being an older unit the fx still sound really good.
@@AndrewStonerock those ART controllers are fantastic. These units sound great but i'm so happy the likes of the Helix have bought quick and easy UI to guitar effects.
What are you playing at 5:15? I’ve been playing something 90% identical to that since I was like 16 lol it’s freaking me out...
What do you need tap tempo for? Most players just set their ms delay for an overall lush sound and then just roll with that.
Another great video. Had my Intellifex for years...never selling ! Wonder why many of us guitar players are nail biters too ? I met Zakk Wylde and he chews his down to a nub.
I really try hard not to bite them down so I file them regularly. Stops me scratching myself in my sleep too!
Ciao e meglio metterlo in serie o in parallelo?? La funzione hush e meglio metterla post o pre? Grazie mille
hello, can you tell me how to transfer syx files from pc to intellifex? I'm looking for software but I can't find it. thank you
Sysex librarian
hi there Tod! What drive did you use in the no more tears part?
You can find these used for not so much, great option if you want to play around with it.
Do you run your AX-8 live in stereo these days, Leon?
Have you tried Rocktron Vudu Valve?
Hi Leon I purchased LTD version are sounding the same? all the best for you !!!
Yes, the LTD is the same minus a couple features you would never use anyway. Still sounds great. Grab a Utopia multi unit ifvyou can. Same features plus a preamp section. Ooooh. Too good!
Have a later "Online" version, always found the reverbs stand alone it's weakness
Yeah the verbs are the least strong effect here.
Nice 79 Strat
It's here (thnx FedeEx)! My version 1.11, Jun 1991 Intellifex. It sounds better than I could have hoped for. (Especially for $21US.) I hit the Bypass and it's the same guitar tone! The previous user had filled all the user presets. One of my favs is called "My Balls Itch". I sh!t you not. Mine has even less info stenciled under the LED. Does not read "With DIgital Hush" but it's there in the machine. Jim C. kindly emailed me a PDF of the original manual!
Best 21 bucks you'll ever spend
Great video how you have your guitar tuned.drop D?
Thanks
Drop C
IM UN TECH SAVVY, CAN SOMEONE GUIDE ME TO OPENING THE SYX FILES SO I CAN READ THEM? THX IN ADVANCE!
Where can we get the settings for all of these patches??

Someone said you go by 2112 on the forums. I was raised on that music, by 2 older brothers who cranked the LPs. As you know, Rush released 4 albums then did a double live album, thus creating eras of music. First era, Rush, Fly By, Caress, 2112 was heavy hard core. Second era Farewell, Hemispheres, Waves, and Pictures was refined and thoughtful. Third era is where they lost me, contemporary. But I would love to hear your impressions and how they influenced you. All The Worlds A Stage. I’m all ears.
Fantastic topic for a discussion.
Is that an original patch or you made that one?
Does it feature gain settings and if not where are you getting your gain from????
Effects only. i'm using an Axe-Fx for the amp tones.
Sounds awesome Leon !!.........what the heck was that amp you were using for the demo ?
All the "amp" tones are coming from my Axe-Fx
@@LeonTodd ...........Thanks !!
@@LeonTodd I have a question Leon ,........on the first riff with the 8 voice chorus ,......was this a factory preset or you fiddled a bit to achieve the tone ?
I had a hk attax preamp and it was badass too
The golden era!
@@LeonTodd with a carvin power amp but now I am vintage
@@LeonTodd can u find one and review it. I loved that clean channel.
@@silverpairaducks I keep an eye out for old rack stuff like that so if one pops up I'll nab it!
I'd be highly interested in getting the Zakk Wylde preset from the start of the video. Is this available somewhere?
The depth is set to 30 on all 8 voices
The first 4 voices are panned hard left, the other 4 hard right.
Delay times and rates are below
V1 Delay = 2 Rate = 10
V2 Delay = 6 Rate = 15
V3 Delay = 10 Rate = 20
V4 Delay = 14 Rate = 25
V5 Delay = 4 Rate = 12
V6 Delay = 8 Rate = 18
V7 Delay = 12 Rate = 22
V8 Delay = 16 Rate = 30
@@LeonTodd Thanks a lot! Highly appreciated. In fact, because of your video, i pulled out my old Intellifex and I have a lot of fun with it.
Have you tried the newer versions of the intellifex?
Only this one. The on-line version looks cool since it would be awesome to be able to share presets!
Hey Leon, was that Zakk Wylde the stock preset? Hush,Bv-chorus.dly??
I'm pretty sure that's the algo I used, I dialled it in to taste though.
@@LeonTodd sweet… I’ll start from there as well. Thanks for responding so quickly!
Just looking through the factory presets, and there are a bunch with that config:
85, 88, 94, 98, 101:109
Any recollection of which you used?
Thanks in advance 🤘🏻
The Rocktron Intellifex is not from the '80s, it came out in 1992. I bought one in 1993.
Hi Leon again. Is any difference between the BLACK face panel vs SILVER panel Rocktron Intellifex? please answer
I'm not sure, I've never looked into it unfortunately.
@@LeonTodd thank you
@@LeonTodd BTW IM going to buy the BLACKFACE :)
@@LeonTodd bTW I bought the black face and IM waiting for this unit. Im excited. I have also g-major 2 and G-major is ok but sterile and coldly comparing to INtellifex :). cheers Leon.
io lo uso con la classica...è stupendo, forse i reverb poco densi ma delay e chorus imbattibili...
