This was my main fx from 95 on. Classic analog sounds and the best thing about it...it'll channel switch your amp. If you guys have any questions hit me up, I know this box up and down.
Pinned!
Here's a question - can I turn individual effects on and off with midi CC's?
@@LeonTodd Yup, this is how I used mine 99% of the time...I paired it with a midi mate
Is it a hybrid of digital and analog signal path ? Eg is the phaser analog and delay digital?
@@danielpirone8028 Yes. IIRC, if you avoid using the hush, speaker sim and compressor FXs (there may be more) the signal path thru the unit is analog.
I probably need to clarify...by analog I mean your input signal (dry) doesn't go through ad/da conversion
That sounds incredible! Congrats on getting it working. I hope it holds up for you because it sounds like hours and hours of fun.
Fingers crossed it holds up!
That first delay sounds great! Really nice tones.
The chorus is from heaven ! warm, lush and just wow !
Flanger and rotary/leslie was what I used the most. Chorus and delay was left to an intellifex. I ran it in the loop of my triaxis, and also had it in a rack mixer in parallel. It can nail the mxr flanger “effect” pretty perfectly but getting it to behave in front of an amp or in the loop for dirty tones is challenging. I also set an expression pedal via midi cc to vary the speed and mix of the leslie or amount of reverb decay.
Sounds great! I've been looking into getting a Rocktron Chameleon.
The Chameleon is really cool. I think Gary Hoey actually recorded some of his albums direct with a Chameleon.
I remember lusting after the Chameleon and Voodoo Valve as a kid. Doooo iiiit!
I had a Voodoo Valve. That was my gateway in to rack gear. :O
Love my Rocktron Chameleon ! I'm actually here coz I wanted to see if Leon had a review of it. Still haven't messed with all of it but just the parametric EQ is amazing. Love your vids too Robert I'm looking at your sweep picking vids this week \m/
Did you ever get the Chameleon?
This was in my rack back in the 90's and early 2000's, Loved it back in the day
Just picked up one of these for a great price. It's on its way to me as we speak. Great demo as always Leon.
Bought one years ago cheap hooked it up to make sure it worked then never used it thanks for posting this it is now hooked up to my fender twin for some nice clean sounds
I have 2 replifex units. Been using theM for years in various rigs. Right now I have one in my synergy rig and one in my Mesa JP-2C rig. Both in the effects loops. I love them and have no desire to use anything else. You forgot to mention the awesome hush noise reduction in them. Works excellent
Speaks volumes there. +! about the Hush, it may not be sexy but it works a treat.
I love my Replifex. Solo Backing is my go to preset!!!
I used to have one of these it was badass so cool .. I'll never know why they stopped making it
Ôhhh yéah! using the intelifex until today! Great Stuff Thanks again Sr!
That LPC is a wonderful sounding guitar.
I own the Multivalve, which is the same unit with a tube. I used it with a 2nd Intellifex. A and B rigs based around the ADA MP-1 preamp. Still have them.
still use my intellifex almost every day, going on close to 30 yrs soon!
That 8 voice chorus is SO good
I love that guitar!
That thing is cool. Very cool. Glad you got it to work, but it is frustrating I'm sure not knowing what it. Hope your well my friend 🤟💖🤟
Wow a blast from the past.... I used intellifex, Repifex and Pro Q and midi mate with my Marshall JMP1 and a Mesa V Twin rack. Powered by a Rocktron Velocity.
Sick rig! How heavy was it?
@@LeonTodd not bad less then an amp or 4x12 cab.
I used the Rocktron MID Mate to assign fx CC to button 5-9. button 9 REV, button 8 Delay, Button 7 Trek/pan, Button 6 modulation chorus/flange, button 5 Oct or Phaser. I combined the Intellifex to get longer delays. I had a delay on one side 590 and needed 1290 on the other side. I would have it mixed so it sounded balanced. I miss rack gear for having sounds exactly the same vs knobs or having to kneel down and change something...
thank you bhother, talent and good taste is for those who have..
Still have mine. Bought it for the rotary Spkr effect. We were doing “cold shot “ and “ Black Hole Sun” :)
A lot of times rack effects sounded a little watered down back then. Replifex did not suffer from that. I used it in the loop and had pedals in front for things like compression, phasing, and flanging. The other cool thing was Rocktron devices never digitized the dry signal.
Yeah the rotary is particularly nice in here
That is my rack from a few years in the '80s and '90s. I had almost all of the Rocktron stuff at one time or another. LOL!
That must have been a wild time for gear
I like how the direct passes thru.
Really nice feature. Now "analog dry through" has finally made it to pedals :p
I enjoy your videos, something to be said for these old school units IMO.. not a lot of comprehensive old school rack effect videos with this type of extensive knowledge covering them so it's a very worthwhile watch.. seems every time I search out an old school rack affect your channel comes up which is nice cuz one knows it's going to be thorough and worthy of its time slot.. you're the rack guru go to guy it seems... thanks again... (Y)
Glad to hear you're enjoying them - these units kinda fall through the cracks so it's a pleasure to shine a little light on what they do
I have the Replifex and Intellifex. I used them mostly when I used to use and MP-1, but I still use them occasionally with my current amps. Personally I like the Replifex after the pre-amp (or in the loop) and I tend to use the delays from the Replifex instead of Intellifex since it has longer delays, and the Intellifex pretty much just handles that sweet chorus.
Sweet, sweet chorus!
I think it sounded pretty good. There's currently one on Reverb for $175 + shipping
No Tim Tam biccy with the tea? Man, effects have come a long way...Brings back memories of the Rocktron craze back in the day. 👍
Awe-inspiring Leon ! Thanks so much for sharing... not guessing why your guitar brand is catched over that black tape...
have you ever tried the rocktron multivalve? its the replifex with a real tube in it and its sounds so amazing that a bought three units to fit all my racks with it
Does it add a bunch of tube preamps? Sounds cool!
@LeonTodd GREAT WAY TO WAKE UP!!!!! I have a big cup of my favorite coffee and a guitar gear video.......NICE!!!!! Someone I had one and absolutely loved it. We had alot of fun experimenting and using it and it eventually worked itself into playing live. Loved it. Been meaning to ask,why do you have black tape on the headstock of that guitar. "D"
I love that old units, after trying a lot of this days digital stuff (ampsims, VSTs and so on), I regret to sold my old intellifex but this times are good to look for this units because are very cheap. But I could also say that with that awesome guitar everything sounds outstanding!! (and your fingers maybe are also involved!!)
My intellifex arrives tomorrow! Black face version. Not Xl, ltd or online
How about that! It works and you didn't have to kick it! Well done and thanks for sharing brother! Be Well All!
My main in the nineties as well. Intellifex wasn't available at the time. Always wondered what I was missing in that beautiful 8-voice chorus. As for the Replifex, the rotary speaker with speed change modeling was novel. TriAxis -> dbx compressor (mostly for the noise gating) -> Replifex -> lexicon reverb -> Simul 2:90, with one voodoo labs rack switcher for pedals in front, and another handling stereo duties around the effects between the Tri and the 2:90. I recall wishing the Replifex eq would do a more drastic cut of some of the nasty Mesa frequencies. Cheers, D
Tommy Schon / Rocktron built some real nice fat effects. They were way out of my price range back then so i stuck with a EH mini muff fuzz, Small clone chorus, Small Stone phase shifter, Boss analog delay.
Funny how things work - any one of those pedals is probably worth more used than a Replifex
I have the Multi-Valve version and the Replifex. I used both the Replifex and Intellifex together to get longer delays. I got the Replifex to be like a rack mounted pedals and using less cables. The concept was to mimic pedals. The Multi-Valve is the same as a Replifex with a 12ax7 that can be active or bypassed. Not an overdrive. I thought it was really cool.
I didn't realise that's what the multivalve did. Very interesting
Never tried this in front of my amp! I have always had it in the loop. Time to get this unit out of storage......
I bought one used back in the day but send it back due to a failure in storing presets despite battery was ok. It had sweet sounds and the spillover was great for live playing with your rack as it would cover any channel switching delays. The fact that is was very easy to adjust was a ++++, I mean comparing to Lexicon MPX-1 for example where you need to get a pHD to set a basic delay and verb...BUT, it seems they had problems eventually, something rare for Rocktron, as they were famed for reliability. I mean, Intellifex lasted years on most users I know with no issues, but replifex had a rumour that was failing every now and then. Still looking out there for used ones though :)
Your videos are very helpful. Thank you! Liked and subscribed!
Thankyou!
Not bad at all for an old rack unit. Rack is back Leon haha
any success with the Autopan feature? Its not working on mine :(
Guess I need to drag out my Prophesy and run it through it's paces again. But as far as amp sims go, I've been spoiled by the ValveSonic Plexi. A sweet preamp! Just needs channel switching. It's new so I don't dare dive into the circuit board, yet.
Yet :D
Love this videos about old Rocktron rack stuff. Did you think already to do videos about Chameleon and Chameleon 2000?
Do it ! I have a Chameleon and I want to hear a pro play with it lol
Apparently, one of the flangers in here is an absolute spot-on model of the original MXR 117 with the built-in power cord (even more accurate than the analog MXR reissues).
That's super awesome. I need to try dial in some jetplane sounds with it :p
Leon, do you have a Digitech GSP2101? That was my favorite back in the day...
Been looking for one for ages!
@@LeonTodd I played with it for long long time, maybe more that 20 years. (GSP2101 Artist with upgrade + Rocktron PRO Q) I really really loved it. Now I left my old rack in rehearsal room & I play with Fractal Axe FX III with Brunetti 1000 Pre-amp on loop. I mean, GSP2101 old era, Axe new era. Cheers from Switzerland.
U are makin me regret to have sold my vodoo valve..has been my first real amp, and i was too ignorant at the time to make it sound good! Daaang
sounds great. I play keys through my repliflex , wots not to like about it.
Nice! What keys you running through it?
@@LeonTodd mainly my korg-sv2. I really like the reverb on the repliflex. (and its stereo) - It allows the the piano/wurly/rhodes patches to sound solid without the fx messing with the foundation of the sound. Anyway great demo man, prob one of the best repliflex demo's I've seen.
Replifex > Intellifex, at least for me, used it in the old days a lot for rehearsal and gigging, cool idea to bring this up again. Now I use it only at home, but not that often.
It's a lot more plug and play. The intellifex 8v chorus is pretty fantastic though
@@LeonTodd I like the ducking delay and reverb fx too.
Dude you gotta get a bunch of preamps and review them. Rocktron prophecy series, gainiacs, the racktifier, custom audio electronics 3+/3+ se, bogner fish, langner dcp1 creator, the carvin floor preamps, etc. You can be the preamp man... Let's be honest you kinda already are.
This is my main effects unit since 1996. Still in use, never let me down! I actually have a 2nd one for backup - but never needed. For me the only thing lacking is an intelligent pitchshifter... 😉

Nevermind on that question lol :) \m/
They still stack up alright hey. The flanger in the Repli is one of my faves in anything.
311 used them together at one time.
I love it tape off the headstock don't give em shit lol
I am thumb no.99!
you missed the best part about the Replifex. I've had mine since 97- with this unit and any midi pedal- you can make it switch the channels on your amp- theres a /14 TRS jack on the back that is programmable. I had this with a Peavey Ultra combo- 3 channels- that with the right adaptor- would switch the channels on my amp. Art X-15 midi pedal, ( the big one) and you could set up your pedals like stomp boxes and turn them on and off within each patch. Also, the delays are WAY better than you give them credit. You can even roll off the high end and make them sound analog. Best guitar effects unit I've ever had- and I tried them all- Intellifex, Lexicon stuff- TC stuff- this sounds the warmest and is the most flexible. An absolute STEAL these days used for like $200.
4:44 - the phaser version of wah face: chewy face! :D
8:50 - nicely sproingy....
Hey can you sell the piranaha or trade for some rare romanian coin or Ukraine I'm Alfredo from Los Angeles
Dang quit highlighting all these gems dude. People can find them on their own. Leon’s trail of destruction of jacking up used rack gear prices continues lol.
Why you always looking so ....weird? I cann´t be conzentradet to what you´re "playing"
Man. Every time I hear these 80’s sounds I want to throw up 🤮
I used it with a marshall jmp-1 upgraded One Time by voodoo amps needs to go back for second upgrade !
It has something called spillover on it which was supposed to bleed won the fact into the next affect instead of having an abrupt cutoff of delays and
Sorry got cut off delays and reverbs would roll on into the next preset it worked okay needed a little help the the pitch shifting was also in need of some help other than that I thought it was a great idea I bought one still have it ! It needs a dusting off also I should dig it out LOL !
