I’m Losing My Shop

- In early July 2021 I learned that my shop was being sold to a new owner. As a result, I’ll need to move if I want to keep going. In this video I share the details of that situation and what I plan to do about it.
This isn’t the first time I’ve lost my shop. You might remember what happened at my last one. This is very different and I’m grateful for that.
Wish me luck. Hopefully the new shop will work out. In the mean time, keep watching and subscribing. Every little bit helps me keep all this going.

It's been 10 years already? Man time flies. I remember the original shop, this place was much nicer, and you did a lot to it.
Crazy how time flies! I think I found his channel 11 or 12 years ago. Went by in a blink!!

Yea, I remember the old shop like it was yesterday
I remember vids of this place when he first got it there was nothing their no lift no machines no tool boxes he’s done a lot in 10 years
The best changes in my life were the ones I had no control over. Sometimes circumstances push us outside our comfort zone and we look back and realize it was all meant to be. I know that doesn’t help short term, but I remember that tiny little garage you started out in, and how far you’ve gone since. Put the word out and I guarantee you will have a lot of moving help.
u spoke the words in my heart, i kinda had the same situation where i hqd to start my own busines.. i didnt like it, and i hope it flourish in the near future..
Just think he went from a small shop to a big shop to now a bigger shop everything happens for a reason
To you guys who came to enjoy unwanted changes, maybe in your old life you were too clingy to your old stuff and old ways. In business life you shouldnt spend much time climbing obstacles, rather work around them, or like i did earlier this year with great success: Take several steps back and find a new road, while still milking the profit from the original road. All roads will eventually come to a halt, expansion of the business is the best workaround.

As with everything in life, your attitude defines the reality.
Use this as an OPPORTUNITY.
Look at Car Wizard, you can do it too!
Even the car wizard didn't jack up the prices for his renters. That is a class act and something I would do. If I become the new landlord I would keep the price the same. I feel there is no need to cause .ore uncertainty for people when it is not needed.
Good attitude goes long way with landlords especially if they are good landlords they are more willing to work with you then if you were trouble. I bet the previous owner said good things about Erick to the new owner probably why he’s more willing to work with Erick. Can’t wait too see the new shop
Time to buy your own space! Renting is killer. Although buying is a whole 'nother ballgame, it will definitely secure your shop. Best of luck brotha!

I have known more than 1 small business person who bought property for their business and the property turned out to be the most profitable part of their business when they retired and sold off.

I remember drama with your last land lord wanting to take all your tools and you handled that great. Glad to hear the new owner is being cool with you. And I'm sure you'll handle the next upgrade just as well. The world is upgrading you yet again. And couldn't wish it on a better guy! 5k square feet! That's amazing!
And funny when you leave a place the other person comes back and says where is all the stuff thinking it was fixtures also.

When I first saw the title of this video I thought it was going to be terrible news. Whilst it may be a temporary worry, I think it's actually a blessing in disguise. Sometimes we need an unexpected catalyst to push us on to the next stage in life; sometimes things really do happen for a reason. I really believe this will be good for business - and great for ETCG. And we'll all be with you every step of the way! 😀😀😀

Change is the only constant in life. Glad to see you are embracing it. I have moved towns and countries almost 8 times in the last 25 years and I think my life is richer for it.

10 Years man time flies. I was working on my sisters super junked out accord getting both of us to classes using your videos in 2010. Now Were in a much better place now, but I still buy used cars and fix them myself because of that confidence you and other youtubers helped put in me when I was 18. Thanks eric and heres to more videos and a smooth move.
The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up when I saw this video pop up But all looks like it’s gonna be a smooth transition. I can’t speak for everyone else but I would love to see some video of the move and progress on the building have a great day Eric!

I'm glad the new landlord is working with you. Everyone wins in the end: he gets a new building for his business, still gets some income off it until you move and you ultimately get a bigger building. A bit chaotic yes, but everyone should benefit in the long run :D
He also doesn't end up with a trashed building. Not that Eric would do that. But another teannet might if this guy ends up owning another person's leased building again.
Eric, moving to a larger space will be of great benefit in the long run. This may be a godsend. Glad the new owner is being reasonable because there's no point in him burning bridges when patience is all that is needed. Good luck to you on the big move. It will work out.

I'm glad it's working out for you in a good way. I know what it's like to be renting a place you have way too much into. Luckily when it came down to the wire for my case, I was able to the place from my old landlord.
Most people see 'Defeat" while a few see "Opportunity" - Looking forward to seeing your new place.
Moving is always a huge life stressor even if we move on our terms, you will be fine as a talented tech. Any landlord should be happy to have you as a tenant. Best of luck on your move when it happens and the next chapter 👍🏽

Sorry to hear of your troubles Eric. You are the second mechanic that I've seen today that have lost their shop due to no fault of their own. The LL sounds like a right guy. 5000 sq ft is an nice upgrade if the $$$ isn't too high.

Moving is one of my least favorite things to do.All will come to getter eventually, and very nice of your landlord to be on your side, which is terrific, it not always goes that way. Hey Eric! Been watching and subscribing to your channel for what seems like forever now, since you were in that old tiny garage. Love your content and love seeing the channel grow over time. Saw how happy you were moving into your current shop and all the space you had. Moving sucks, i’m in the process myself, and especially if not on your own condition. But glad the new space is bigger and that you are given time to do so. Onto bigger and better things!

Moving is definitely one of the most stressful times in one’s life. After 10 years in the shop you’re in, it’s tough to say goodbye.
At the same time, the prospects of moving into a bigger shop is exciting though, but dealing with the logistics is perhaps where most of the stress is.

It sounds like things are going to work out for you, I wish you all the best and hope things go smooth for you. It might be a good time to take inventory and decide what to focus on. The last time I had a big move I took about a week to organize and label/pack things properly and in the right order and it made things go a lot quicker on moving day.

Hey Im sorry to hear , I have been there myself. After 2 moves dealing with landlords I closed up and got out of the bussiness which was a transmission repair shop. I wish the best, good luck, stay healthy.

I feel you, the slum lord sold the property out from under my house when I could have and would have bought it myself. The new owner has yet to show his face.

Im in the middle of my last move ever hopefully. I just bought a place on 5 acres so the next step is a 60x60 shop. Waiting on permits now. It is a pain but so much worth it!

7 years ago my mechanic friend had to move from his shop, they didn’t even give him 30 days. He sold a car and bought a moving truck. We packed it very carefully, “to the gills”. He made a cradle/cart with big casters to pack the lift parts on. It had a Tommy lift gate but the only way to get the lift on the truck was to put most of the lift cart on the Tommy lift and lift the end with a cherry picker as the Tommy lift went up. His shop remained in that truck for 6 years, just moving in to a space last year. What a nightmare! I don’t envy you, but congratulations on what sounds like an upgrade.
That’s great that moving is working out but I get that packing and moving is a challenge. I move from California to Washington State. What I did was make several trips. I have a 20’ car trailer that has stake pockets so I used 2X6s and plywood to create sides. I bought some 55 gal poly barrels and put all my tools into them based on my ability to unload them. I had a 12 ton winch on the front of the trailer which helped load and unload them via straps. No Damage happened. I had a large compressor and my engine hoist helped there. Anyway I made it. I’ve never been commercial but am a car guy. I had welders wood working tools etc. did 90% by my self and was in my late 60s. In my 70s now so may rethink it if it comes up again😳 it can be done but your ahead of the game with a fork lift and help. Good luck.
