  • Crispy, perfectly seasoned skin (that stays crispy) with a beautifully fluffy interior, and I'm using one particular ingredient that I BET you've never used before on a baked potato.
I've done some serious research, testing 12 different methods, to bring you the BEST RECIPE for baked potatoes.
This method made me change my old way of baking potatoes FOREVER!
Free printable recipe is available on our site: www.kitchensanctuary.com/the-...
    Ingredients:
▢1 baking potato - about 280g/10oz in weight.
▢1 tsp beef dripping - melted (swap for sunflower oil for vegetarian)
    ▢1/4 tsp salt
    ▢1/4 tsp black pepper
    Process:
    1. Preheat the oven to 220C/425F.
    2. Prick the potato several times with a fork.
    3. Place on a plate and microwave on high for 5 minutes.
    4. Remove from the microwave and brush the beef dripping (or oil) all over the skin of the potato.
    5. Roll the potato in the salt and pepper to coat.
    6. Place on a shallow baking tray, in the oven for 55 minutes.
If you want to see how the different methods compare then check out this post where I show you the 12 different methods I tested before setting on this way for making the BEST baked potatoes.

I have never been good at cooking, so didn't have an interest in it. Then a few months back, I seen your recipe for stir fry. I made it and I loved it. Better than takeaway. I also made your sweet and sour pork and then yesterday I tried this baked potato recipe. Wow. I can give or take potatoes, but this was well nice. I loved the crispy skin and so did my mother. The reason I like your recipes is because you actually say how long to cook things, whereas a lot of channels don't give a time to cook for. As someone who's not a big cook, it's nice to have times to help you know when it should be ready. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

We use this method too, five minutes in the microwave and finish off in the oven. Never thought about the beef dripping idea which we will try. When we put ours into the oven, we put a large metal skewer through it (can get 3 spuds on one skewer). The heat transfer seems to speed up the cooking time, saving even more money on the electric bills. Thanks for sharing. DrZ 🙏🏻

My favourite food addiction is definitely potatoes in all forms. Being from Canada it is the Russet potato. My new favourite way is in the air fryer using med/small brushed with oil, salted. Takes 25 minutes. . A couple times I have thrown in lard or chicken drippings and they added something wonderful . Will try beef tallow now that I am buying small blocks of it from the butcher to make my own hand/face/body creams. Thanks for all your sharing, always much appreciated inspiration for dinner ideas when I have none :))

Will definitely try the beef drippings, I usually use evoo on the potatoes then sprinkle with kosher salt and do them on the bbq (about 425F) for 1 hour, turning them over then quarter turn then over again every 15 minutes. This gets all 4 sides. They come out crispy, fluffy and with a nice smoky flavour. Topped with, butter, sour cream, chopped green onion and bacon bits.

An interesting variation is to hollow out the potato once cooked, put the flesh into a bowl with butter, cream, Boursin soft cheese...mix to a purée, then spoon the mixture back into the potato shells and put them back in the oven for another fifteen minutes...the top of the purée becomes golden. Takes a bit more time, but the result is worth it.

Just a heads up. Microwaves do differ in power. In the States you can find 1200w microwaves. For a single baked potato the maximum amount of time would be 1 minute. Using 5 minutes produces a very overcooked potato that is not only fully cooked but very dry on the inside without ever seeing the inside of a conventional oven.

Love my jacket potato with tuna mayo and some baked beans. Strange looks I used to get ordering it.

You can swap the oven step for the air fryer to reduce the time and increase the crispyness I’ll never cook them any other way again

Take a bit of filling out and mix Savoy cabbage shredded, mature cheese and spring onions and pop back in the oven for 15 minutes 💓

Could I boil the potatoes for 10-15 minutes before baking to reduce the time instead of using the microwave?

My parents literally just put them in tinfoil and blasted the oven for 90 minutes 🤣 without any seasoning or coating lol. Gonna have to try this

I found this great crockpot method on the internet:
Rub olive oil and salt on baking potatoes.
Cook in crockpot on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hrs. Skin comes out crispy.
