I wanted to tell you how much this video has meant to us. My husband learned how to make these so well! He shows them off to guest who come to visit all the time and they love them! My brother in law has cancer and on his last days. We went to see him for the last time and talked about these potatoes and he wanted to taste them so bad, we made them for him. He could hardly eat them but he tried his best and he loved them! He had not eaten anything for days but he ate that potato. It was a good memory for all of us. We told him about your video and how we learned to make them and I promised I would make a comment and tell the story. Thanks for the memories from our dear brother in law and his brother.
Great story. God bless

Who else is going to make potatoes for dinner tonight now?
Already on it!
The Bob Ross of cooking. Love this.
Hey now, cowboy, his cooking ain't no "Happy Accident."
Exactly what i was just thinking.
So funny. I just wrote the same comment, and noticed yours after I put mine up.

Ya. I wondered if that was Shan or Andy that did that.

I'm a simple man I see cowboy Kent Rollins I click and without a second thought give a thumbs up😁💪😋
When making the Hasselback potatoes, I sit a wooden spoon handle on both sides of the potato when I go to slicing them. That is an easier way to make certain I don't cut all the way down by accident!
that's a great trick! BTW great job Andy, looking very tasty
I was just going to post the same tip. Great minds...
I done same.
yep or even chopsticks if you keep them like I do but never use them!
Thomas Darby thanks for the share! I will try it.
For once I'm ahead of the curve! This is how I've been doing my baked potatoes for years. Love that crispy skin
I personally enjoy the fact that when you're indoors, you don't have a hat on.. Same way I was raised.
Not having a hat on inside is Cowboy ediquite! We also still tip our hat to the ladies!

Well that’s decided looks like crispy potatoes for me and the family tonight lol. Keep up the wonderful work Kent.
Bob Ramey How were the crispy potatoes??
Odin the German Shepherd we enjoyed them a lot I always wrapped mine in foil before but I believe my kids liked them with the crispy skin better. Still haven’t done the hassle back yet. I should be getting my red river ranch original this week. And the mesquite seasoning as well. Then I’ll try the hassle backs.
Bacon grease AND butter? Oh, yeah!! Can't go wrong there!! Thanks as always for another fine recipe, Kent and Shannon!! See you down the trail!!
I love seeing how your channel is growing. Its always a positive and fun show. Thanks for the hard work to both you and the lovely Shannon. Younare appreciated!
Glad you enjoy it, and Thanks for watching
Mindy! You got to try this! Before the last 10 minutes in the oven, I put pepperoni slices that I cut in half in each slit. Then I sprinkled on crushed red pepper flakes. After the last ten minutes in the oven, I put more red flakes on and parmesan cheese. Delicious!
Could almost see you eventually on the Food channel or Create.
Kent, try this. Mix Avocado oil with Sea Salt in a bowl you can roll the potato in. Saves two steps, and I guarantee the skin is crispy!
Sounds good

My Irish Grandma cooked her taters this way. They were the best.
fancy! my Irish grandmother boiled them.... her entire diet was potatoes, tea, and toast. Not super famous for her cooking, but she was well educated though!
@@codent Yes, Granny had boiled potatoes every night. They were a staple at her table. On special occasions she would bake the potatoes and she used this method. Granny was born in County Cork in 1888. When she would go into her Irish brogue we knew Gramps was in trouble. My mother could curse in fluent Gaelic. When she started that we knew to walk softly.

That recipe is great, if you are in the woods too. Potatoes are crazy easy to grow. Just get a potato, and stuff it in the dirt. Bang! You get MORE POTATOES!!!!! The stores have screwed up the vegetables, so that you can't use them to grow now........ because they are greedpigs
You cook just like my paw paw helped me a bunch when I was in the service all my buddies came over for breakfast bringing the food if I would cook it for em
when I was a kid in the 50's, we had all kinds of baked and broiled potatoes each week..today folks hardly use them at all other than for French Fries..I have no idea why..
I don't understand either who eats a steak without a good baked potato ? I think it's a sin.
I tend to just eat nothing but meat and hot sauce, or tacos for dinner. I kinda like potatoes, and pasta, and whatnot, but I have a hard time digesting them. Always feel like shit the next day if I have more than a few bites. I think that's kinda common.

Americas Test Kitchen "Best Baked Potatoes" recipe, you might credit them on this. Love your channel, I also love Americas Test Kitchen.
I was trying to figure out why the doggies were all excited over 'taters because my pets never showed any interest in 'taters but then I realized they smelled the Bacon Grease, their noses know. 🐶
Nothing like a hot baked potato on a cold evening (well maybe a nice bowl of chili or chili on a potato)
I just finished baking the potatoes and I have to say that they live up to their name. Despite not having any of the seasonings that you added they still taste lovely. This channel has been a God send for this quarantine, please keep uploading more potato recipes!
Wonderful to see some Hasselback potatoes. They look great! Did you guys know they got their name from the restaurant Hasselbacken in Stockholm, Sweden?

Awesome! I learned something new today, thanks for everything.
I have been lost in Oklahoma twice in my work travels. The next time I am lost in Oklahoma, I am calling you for some great eats!!!!
Oh man that looks downright tasty. Thanks, Kent.
I basically do my Hasselback the same way except I grate some cheddar cheese on top the last five minutes or so let it melt down on the slices. Goes great with baked ham.
Sounds good it does
Those baked taters look perfect, but I'd need some butter, sour cream, and fresh ground black pepper. The others look like they'd be worth a try, too. Stay well, and don't let Beag steal a hot potato. He'll look at you like it's your fault.

I cooked grilled red snapper tonight, making your seasoning the top ingredient on the fish, with a light dusting of cajun seasoning and doused a little olive oil. as well a couple grilled shrimp. Plus whipped up some cajun cream sauce. With grilled asparagus. Poured the sauce over the fish and shrimp. Oh my Lord.
I suppose the potatoes could be cooked the same way outside in a dutch oven?
Yep and good they are
The most fabulous presentation!!!! And the dogs just topped it off? Thank you.
I love a baked spud with butter and baked beans I'm looking forward to trying them your way!
Kent is right on the money about baking a russet potato. Number one...bake at 450 degrees ! The most common mistake folks make with baking potatoes is they use aluminum foil and set the temp on 350. For those who want a really nice skin than turns out to be a "shell" or "bowl", the foil is not going to produce one. Foil retains the moisture in the skin and it turns out to be like a wet napkin which prevents the skin to crisp up. You can't prepare the potato with butter and seasoning etc. without the skin breaking down. Some restaurants serve baked potatoes wrapped in foil, bad idea for an authentic baked potato. Second, the cooking time needs to be longer than most consider. 45 minutes would be the least time for an average grocery store sized russet while larger sized russets need up to 1 hr 15 minutes. That's the secrete to a fluffy light inside and a nice crispy exterior that is cooked just right.
Those who prefer wrapping their baked potato in foil may as well use a different potato such as the white or reds since they have thin skin which is apparently the reason for the foil, to keep the skin from forming a crisp shell. We do them like Kent in a hot oven and for an hour or so and always get good compliments.
I don't fully agree. (350 is way too low I agree) but 425 for one hour wrapped in foil and rubbed with oil salt and pepper no holes poked in the skin. Yields a pretty crispy skin. The foil isn't the problem it's temperature, the time and the uneeded holes. Russets ONLY. That way you are kinda of 'frying' the skin in oil, while all the moisture and steam stays inside(no holes in the skin)
@@a3dstorm The foil will not yield a crispy skin without holes, no matter what temperature is my experience. Most potatoes will explode without at least one hole poked in them, not all.
I've made the brine style spuds before and they're good , will definitely have to try the other method👍
Hope you enjoy
BACON goose or duck fats great or veg oil after brine. love it after the first 45 bake to temp 210 internals top w goat cheese parsley lemon zest mix?

@@CowboyKentRollins great job!
Wow all that work for potato??, but potatoes are the BEST!! For meal!, a side dish or for the rest (but I sure do love french fries)!!!
I have literally just put a potato in the oven. If only I had waited ten minutes I could've tried this right now.
I mean I get these may be the most delicious baked potatoes ever, but the point of baked potatoes is throwing them on a fire and making them edible. This complicates it to the point you might as well make fries, homebaked, or mashed... Just stick the bitch on a fire for a while and call it good.. Thats what baked potatoes are for...
Dear 12 dislikers... who hurt you?

Kent, you definitely look better in a hat. 😉 But alas, I know you are a gentleman, so you wouldn't wear one in the house. Taters look awesome!!
Great looking tatties kent!!!
We eat lots of tators in my house, never thought about using bacon grease or even bathing the tator in salt water but going to have to try that. I do my hasselback tators almost like you do but I put one of them metal skewers through the bottom after I cut the flat spot off. The skewer keeps me from going too far with the knife. I am not as steady as you. :-) Great video, never knew about the 210 degrees either but I am going to watch that now too. Good video...........have I said I love your videos, well I do.
