I liked how the enemies were creatures who used magical songs. It makes the "High School Musical" premise a lot more tolerable. Plus, their songs were the best part, hands down.

1:55 I think the idea that they were going for is sunset shimmer was, well, shy. The whole friendship concept was still really new to her, and she could never be sure when to and when not to speak up or intervene, and considering how in the 1st movie, she said "I don't know the first thing about friendship" and that the main 6 were pretty much her only friends, I think its understandable that she would be really, really nervous about loosing them if she messed up somewhere without realizing it. (As well as the fact that she probably didn't want to play in front of the people she tried to enslave)
This is the first of your reviews I think I've seen, and I really like how simultaneously concise and quick it is. There are moments where you point out obvious fanservice/fangasm is obvious, but at the same time you don't really put down people that enjoyed that part of the movie (which is a trap a LOT of pony critics fall face-first into) and put it off as more of a guilty pleasure, which it totally is. TENOUTTATEN, now it's in my faves.

Y'know, if you think about it, Starswirl's the go to dude because all this crap happened about 1,000 years ago. 1,000 years from now, Twilight Sparkle will be the one all the history seems to involve. "1000 years ago, Twilight Sparkle banished the changelings. 1000 years ago, Twilight Sparkle destroyed King Sombra. 1000 years ago, Twilight Sparkle meteor smashed Tirek in the face."
I suspect the reason for the human main six maintaining their power when Twilight went home after the first movie is due to Sunset Shimmer's presence. She had a connection (briefly) to the element of magic, and is herself pretty powerful; her friendship with the girls gives them access to their powers (limited) while they connect through a medium they all love-their music. They might not realize it however as when they tried to confront the sirens at first, the power of friendship went all crickets on them without Sunset in the group. Just an idea. Good review--loved it Kim!

They show their element when they play music.That is why they transform.Rarity has the generosity to play her music and spend time with her friends,Fluttershy is kind to help with the tambourine,Applejack is honest with her expression of enjoying time with her friends,Pinkie pie is laughing among her friend while playing(Not actually it is just a term i came up with for that she is having a good time and making everyone happy)An rainbow dash is showing her loyalty with not switching to the other bands.Twilight element means that she can have the traits in dire times.So she still is generous to come to the human word even though she really didn't have to,she is kind enough to lend her voice as a lead singer though the band can sing just fine,she is honest and wants to help them answer there problems even though she couldn't at that time,she is happy with her friends even though she has all the reasons to be upset,and is showing loyalty to the band by not giving up at the last minute though she can.And in the 3rd movie their elements show when they are showing their traits.That is the same case in the second movie....THERE EQUESTRIAN MAGIC IN THE MAIN SIX(including sunset shimmer because she has magic too)FOR ALL THE MOVIES EXPLAINED!...in my theory...BUT IT STILL WORKS!

And if you are talking to me, I just don't look at some reviewers, because they misses things I think is obvious and that would explain exactly what they say is wrong, or nitpick and think their nitpick is the whole world instead of something easily overcome, and even though they do point out the occasional flaw, I have found the other ones disturbing.
Also, I asked YOU, not any (other) analyst.
I did argue, at length, with one analyst about something that was obvious to me, but he didn't see.
The result?
Nothing.
I understood what he meant to begin with, but failed to describe what I saw was obvious so he understood what I meant.
That happens sometimes: people just do not see things others do, and therefor disagrees.
I've liked KP's stuff before, but this one took to another level. Thoroughly enjoyed this review and I hope to see more.

I actually have this theory that the dazzles are in fact pony changeling hybrids and the medallions are in fact of a Sea pony origins. (whispers: the long-lost daughters of Queen chrysalis. Maybe?)

I was actually disappointed the battle of the bands was not at least included into the soundtrack, Furthermore, it would've had a major impact in the bon bon/lyra thing as that the type of music they are playing would've been a key factor, is a difference between a love ballad and singing amazing Grace

i've seen a few places that sea ponies are like earth ponies and that there are flying sea ponies for pegasi and electric sea ponies (like electric eels) for unicorns.
if the theory is that these exist, then these would be the sea pony versions of changelings (sea changelings)
votederpycausemufins I think those are somewhat canon, so far we already got a few variants for aquatic ponies from various media, let's see Seaponies & Mermares from Under the Sparkling Sea picture book, Mermares & Merstallions from official comic #14, Kelpies from comic #23 & 24, & now Sirens from Rainbow Rocks, also I think the Windigoes from Hearth's Warming Eve episode are also a type.
Finally, Windigoes + Kelpies = Sirens
possible, but there has been artwork showcasing the dazzles as ponies with transparent wings. despite any artwork or what we saw in a movie We do not have confirmation as to what dazzles, actually are as we have never actually seen them in their original form
well, that could be that, while most people believe sirens are mermaid like, they were actually see as bird like, but because they are near the water and lure ships towards them to crash into rocks, or for sailors to jump in the water and drown trying to get to them, many people started seeing them as mermaid like instead. it also doesn't help that there were also the harpies in the same story, any it was way more obvious that they were part bird seeing as they had to be shot down from the sky.

Some characters do not have other world counterparts. For instance a majority of the adults in EQG do not exist in Equestria. And ponies like Sunset and Starlight do not exist in EQG.

Kayti Sparklewriter I think of the HuMane5 as having similar traits and characteristics to what the Mane5 had back in season 1 or 2 (up to 'Mare-Do-Well' for Dash). That said, the HuMane5 will be somewhat different because they're students and don't have the adult responsibilities their pony counterparts have, nor the same life experience. One such difference is Felicia (EQG!Fluttershy)'s willingness to stand in public and hand out flyers, and to perform as part of a band in front of an audience, whereas Fluttershy is still taking foal steps.
I do wonder what the case is with Talia (EQG!Twilight). She gives off a mad scientist researcher vibe. Maybe she even skipped a few grades and went into grad school, so her thesis might have something to do with unexplained phenomena. I predict that in the next 'EQG' feature, whether a series or a movie, she'll go to Canterlot HIgh undercover to discover what's going on, and she'll come to blows with the HuMane6, now led by Shimmer.
