Rasetsu Brony When I finally got around to watching the Book of Life I spent the WHOLE movie comparing Xibalba's movements and attitude to Discord. To me it was way more than just looks, I actually had wondered if one of the animators for MLP was working on the movie and had input into Xibalba's design and everything.
Zephyr Carter I dont think so...You need to see ALL Jorge Gutiérres work...it looks more like if discord was based in the art and character design of Jorge Gutierrez and also in some of the mexican culture...ya know...ALEBRIJES!...actually when I saw Discord by first time I see like...a lot of mexican...and what about that dimension?! it looks like a mexican puppet to me!!! with the mostacho and sombrero! come on...I CANT BE THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THAT ABOUT DISCORD !!! When I first started watching this episode I almost couldn't believe it.

And Discord is just so adorable. He's such a better character now that he's not evil anymore, but just an incurable prankster with a huge ego and a soft spot for Flutters. Remember when everyone was upset about him no longer being a villain?

Lol bro !I was thinking the exact same thing the second I saw discord's house in that dimensuon.I so saw it as the pokemon Diamond, pearl and platinum location Giratina's place the Distortion world XD I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that saw that lol.I was definitely expecting some Giratina dragon type pokemon creature monster to show up around discord's house lol.

I loved the episode cause of so many things. And yeah, discord and fluttershy is kawaii, and I don't even use that word.
I mostly liked finally seeing discord's house though, and the scene where he gets the mail... poor mailpony...
Also, yeah, I agree with you on the smooze. Cept, I think the smooze wanted to like discord/be accepted on some level... so kind of like the one guy with the bad habits who gets ignored generally and ends up eating all your gold to compensate...

Idnovas We didn't see her at the last Gala either. My head canon is that she's out on the lawn where she and everyone around her can appreciate her nighttime sky...but none of the action takes place out there so we don't see her during the episode.

If Fluttershy had cared for Discord in that way then surely she would have asked him to go with her, regardless of whether he had a ticket or not. In all it was an awesome episode and couldn't help but think KP must be loving this while watching it. Also, Celestiacord forever!
I mean, all shipping aside (though I ship it too X3) *Celestia* is the one who wanted the Mane 6 to "tame" Discord so his magic could be used for good, and *she invited him* to the Gala.

There was no discontinuity. It is true and still true Discord never had any friends before Fluttershy. He was never friends with the Smooze. He merely brought him because he knew the Smooze would cause chaos and to use him to make Fluttershy jealous. Could you not tell he was lying when he said the Smooze was his oldest, dearest friend?
Also, in the episode Threes a Crowd, his main intention was NOT to get Twilight to prove she's his friend but to ruin her time with Cadence. That's why when Cadence said he didn't ruin their time together, he got so upset.
Also, Discord is the incarnation of chaos - consistency isn't really his thing.

this was a great episode, and I can counter your points on the out of character stuff pretty easily, one Discord doesn't really consider the Smooze a friend he's just using it to get back at Fluttershy, also Applejack cries on the inside, but has been known to shed a prideful tear every now and again. ~
At last, KP's review of the Discord episode! This episode was so great. I adored it. I was worried the plot may be too inconsequential, the Schmooze would be unneeded or annoying, etc. etc. but ALL THOSE ISSUES DIDN'T COME TRUE. The execution was hyper-hysterical and the Schmooze I think reflected Discord's emotions. Plus this was like a classic SpongeBob episode in terms of hilarity, and I agree, I haven't had this much fun with an episode since Pinkie Pride. I'll probably do a video on it myself, but even if it doesn't pan out, I'm glad to know there's at least one fan-adoring-squee video out there already.
Fun review, I agree Fluttershy and Discord's friendship is pretty adorable.
Also, man! I really like how the analysis community keeps making new locations. Dr Wolf's Office, the Cemetery from Nightmare Night, and now this castle for Prince? Cool!
4:20 I don't think it's that the CMC hate Discord now, they probably just didn't like having him scare them with the EYE-BALL MIRROR gag, then have him insult the Gala that they've been looking forward to their whole lives, and Discord is frustrated that he doesn't have his invitation & is trying to hide his emotions.
Your Book of Life reference reminded me that when I first saw it I thought Xibalba was voiced by John De Lance.
Exactly Kim the Fluttercord fanatics have a field day with this episode but it does not canonize a romantic sort of interest in any way shape, or form. I mean Fluttershy didn't take the flower from Discord at the end, "Oh that's so very sweet of you (insert big blush) but I meant apologize to Tree Hugger..." NO. She like SLAPPED his hand and corrected him.
Not saying she can't have affection for him because clearly she does, but I don't feel they are indicating Discord has a love interest in her. I mean if he can barely understand friendship and is learning...I'm sure love comes WAAAAY down the line....
That being said I would love to see a Discord and the princesses episode and get some character development there or funny interactions, it would be sweet.

I had this headcanon that the chaos-related villains (wendigoes, sirens, draconeqqus, etc.) live in a chaos realm.

Yay, I'm not the only person who thought Xibalba had an amazing resemblance to Discord.
I feel like a lot of this is fluttershys fault... She knew discord was new to friendship, so she should have at least tried to make him feel better when she talked about tree hugger. Plenty of blame for all.

Lol! This was funny! Discord is my number one favorite character in MLP and I was very happy to see him with an episode!
After seeing how emotional Discord got in Keep Calm and Flutter On, And how he said 'I've never really had a friend before' I think he conjured up the smooze and tried to make Fluttershy jealous as well by telling her he was his best friend. I think that because Discord got so emotional when he said 'I would lose the one friend I ever had!'. I did question that too, but now from what I've seen he most likely conjured him up, and the fact that he said they were in college together pretty much proves it, because they didn't have collage thousands of years ago if they went to collage together, and he did treat smooze as more of a pet and for some reason reminded me a bit of gummy at the end.
Wait....because Celestia laughed at 'one' joke towards Twilight, her star pupil and she has known pretty much her whole life, that means Celestia liked him? Huh?
And the ending was a trollestia moment lol! It was exactly like 'Best Night Ever' ending. But wait....if they had the same ending and her saying that to Discord just like she did in the first season......does that means she likes the main six and Spike since she said practically the sane thing to them!*gasp*
And I don't think she has any secrets for Discord. She had Fluttershy reform him for power, and to use it to her advantage. I totally think Celestia and Discord like each other! Just because there friends now and Celestia turned Discord to stone and put him on display in her garden for a thousand years......perfect lesson for children on how to start a relationship.....

I to was disturbed by the CMCs reaction to Discord in this ep. I was expecting them to jump with more joy at seeing their friend and Honorary Cutie Mark Crusader.
It was the perfect opportunity to merge the show with the comics and the writers...freaking....BLEW IT!!!!! Do they even want to make more money? THEN THINK AND DO!!!

About the Discord previous friend thing, I can see Smooze as nothing more than the first somewhat sentient thing Discord came across in a drawer that he could put in a top hat and entice to the Gala with a trail of treats. Judging by the way he treats Smooze, I think he may have even never met "it" before and simply made up every word of his stories, knowing that Smooze couldn't/had no interest to speak up and correct him.

*_FINALLY!_* Someone mentions *the cake* xD It _was_ mentioned pretty briefly in the episode, but being sour about a _certain_ dessert after making chocolate rain and cotton candy clouds _is_ a little suspicious ;3 The evidence is piling up!
I like to think that discord made the smooze, it makes sense because he never had a friend and it looks like something you can just make
7:05 I think that Discord may have been exaggerating when he said that he "Never Actually Had a Friend Before", I think he may have meant like he never had a *real* friend before, someone who actually wanted to be his friend, Discord seems like that type of guy who when he was young he was the "Weird Kid" that everyone tried to avoid because they thought he was a weirdo, so because the weird kid doesn't have any real friends he either makes imaginary friends, or try to befriend an animal or something, hence the thing where Discord was friends with Hubert the Butter-Dragon back in pre-historic times, and through out his adult years he didn't really make friends, but more like "Allies in Spreading Chaos" like befriending enemies of nations to help overthrow rulers, like how he helped Bast overthrow Pharaoh Anubis back in Ancient Anugypt, this may also explain how Discord knew Tirek's Parents & Tirek's Mentor, but it wasn't until Fluttershy that he actually had someone who actually wanted to be his friend for *REAL*, which is most likely why Discord values his friendship with Fluttershy so much, she's his 1st *REAL FRIEND* who actually chose to be his friend of her own free will just for the sake of them being friends, and maybe Smooze was another one of Discord's old Allies of Chaos, which would explain how Discord convinced Smooze to be his Plus 1 for the Gala, but now Discord & Smooze seem to accept each other as Friends.
This was fun to watch. I liked your enthusiasm for the show, and the editing and gags were fun too. I'll watch more of your stuff for sure. :)
