Yeah it took a lot of time finagling stuff to get it out. Then I found some bearing cage metal in the bottom so one of the bearings is damaged and I can’t get to it…. Gonna have to split 1 day anyhow. I watched your videos prior to working on mine so thanks!!
I just changed my hydraulic pump without splitting the tractor. It was a long process. Removed the crossover tubes and the hydraulic filtering system for the hydraulics then took the bottom plate off. I had to shove a board under bottom plate to prop it up so I could remove the 2 bolts for pick up tube. While I was in there I changed the pump. It was pretty loose. So new gaskets, seals, o-rings, cleaned everything out etc. in retrospect might have been less time involved to split tractor. It was a real PIA to get the new gasket and bottom plate on while propping the plate up to reattach pick up tube. Oh, had to unbolt and prop up/ pull back slightly steering column too.
Thanks so much for the video and time there mate. I really appreciate it. Very thorough and I’ve done the clutch adjustment and changed filter and fluid with no joy so far. As I can start in gear with clutch depressed and the shuttle shift works fine, I’m just going to operate her for a while and see if it all ‘wears in” as the fluid pumps around before pulling the top off. The clutch pedal already seems to be returning to stop more quickly since fluid change. The changing of gears on the run isn’t so important anyway as I can still go backwards and forwards using the shuttle and will be doing most work in first anyway. Thanks again for taking the time mate. Really appreciate it. I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks for this video. Very helpful. I've recently had an issue with the filter clogging in cold temperatures (-15c) up here in Canada. No return from the filter. There must be a bypass manifold that just dumps the fluid back onto the torque tube or to the converter if the filter is clogged. The filter is high pressure that feeds the shuttle shift. So if oil isn't getting past the filter, you can't move. And I need to move snow!! Lots of it!
Good diagnosis. One way to check if the pump is working (and the filter is passing fluid) would be to disconnect the discharge line from the filter and route it into a bucket. Start the tractor and BRIEFLY observe the flow, then shut 'er down. It shouldn't take more than a few seconds of flow to see how much it's putting out. Don't forget to top off the reservoir afterwards. GRT and I traded a few tips back and forth on these tractors (as you know) and we both did a teardown and repair video on the shuttle clutch control valve. My thought are similar to yours (as you say) either a worn pump, blocked filter, worn spool valves, a stuck/broken/maladjusted pressure relief valve, incorrect pedal adjustment or damage to the clutch friction-steels down inside transmission itself. I've heard that the incorrect fluid can also cause problems. Some use just a universal tractor fluid as I do (Rotella HD tractor fluid) but some swear by using HY-Tran fluid. It shouldn't make that much of a difference but before tearing into the tractor I'd try a fluid change and every adjustment possible.
Ya taking the line off would confirm flow and then you could deadhead it against a fitting with a gauge and see what pressure it's making. Good point about the fluid I run a hydraulic fluid that generic hy tran because I've heard other fluids can mess up seals or something in the trans

I had onethat wouldn't move.Found out ols owner used silicone on the starter flange which squeezed and got into the tras and plugged the inlet screen on the trans. This is a wet starter but someone installed a unsealed starter and leaked trans oil onto the ground. Sealing it did nothing to fix the problem. Put in the proper starter ,cleaned the inlet screen and it worked perfect.
Hoping you can help me out too... I'm looking at a 580A or whatever we're calling the pre-1971 model. I have 0 Clutch Pressure on the gauge. Cant seem to get it to move. I've changed the fluid.... Old fluid was like a milkshake. Had a couple cups of water when I opened the plug, then milkshake, then snotty milkshake. I took a video... When I start the tractor, I'm getting a fairly loud whining noise.
Is it a shuttle shift (forward and reverse on the steering column) if so your probably loosing pressure in the hydraulic block that the "clutch" pedal acuates. It is a hydraulic dump valve not an actual clutch and the is a relief valve in the block that can get stuck. Having that much water in the system the spring could have rusted and broke or since you saw "snotty" fluid coming out I could have trash blocking it open. It's fairly easy to take apart and clean and inspect, I showed it in a video a few years ago when I resealed mine. Hope this helps let me know what you find out, if it's not in that block it's most likely deeper in trans....
I have a question for anyone that can help... my case580B are not moving and the shift lever looks like is lose because it moves the lever around freely and not get in gear, I open the cover and the forks is normal but the lever pin below are going out of forks, can anyone let me know if it has any clips to make it not going out? any help will be very appreciated I have no experience at all ...
Hey. Good video! I have a problem with mine. Hope you can help :) When i put it en gear, and move the lever on the steeringcolumn to forward. It is very weak and can not push it self if there is just a slight incline or a hole or anything. But in when i put it in reverse it has a lot more power and can easily get it self unstuck from af hole or something like that. Do you have any idea what i have to look at. I topped off the fluid on the transmission ( the big nut in the cabin closest to the windshield) But some say i should just use hydraulic oil in there and transmission fluid?? Hope you understand :)
I don't think there is a pick up tube on the mechanical shuttle. I have had my 580b ck covers off and found no pick up tube on the torch tube tranny. Every one I have spoke with seam to be a little confused between the mechanical shuttle shift with the torch tube and the power shuttle shift. I think the power shuttle shift (not mechanical shuttle) has the duel range tranny. Don't hold me to that but that what I think is the case.
Awesome videos, thank you so much. question for you. I have JCB 2001 214 backhoe it engages 4x4 front wheel run slow as long as wheels above ground. when they touch ground , stop and backheels only spin. also sluggish movement generally. any thoughts? thank you in advance.
Really couldn't say man I've never worked on a jcb, as far as the four-wheel drive problem that could be anything from broken axels to a clutch, if it's hydraulic like mine then you may have an internal leak somewhere or a bad pump or pressure regulator. Wish I could be more helpful.
Quick question, i have case 580C with shuttle shift, rebuilt the transmision, the foward was gone in the machine, the washer was cracked. Replaced pump, foward and reverse clutches, bearings etc. After reinstalling transmission yaaaa we have foward and reverse...then booo after machine warms up loose both foward and reverse? Could it be the fluid we used ? Manual calls for case hy trans
@@GRTRanchadventures i used a generic trans fluid for tractor transmissions at my local hardware store. Like i said i lost foward and discovered the belleville washer was cracked, but while i had the tranny apart i replaced the pump, clutches, seals, basically everything. I bought a complete rebuild kit. When i first used the tractor after the rebuild it was fine then after a few uses it started with the no movement foward and reverse. When it warms up after 10 mins or so using it then it just wont move. I can shut it off then start again in 10 mins and it will move for a few minutes. So im guessing it is either a circulation issue with the trans oil, or the trans oil itself is losing viscosity? When i rebuilt the tranny the suction screen was clean, and no debris in the unit. It was actually pretty clean, and except of course the cracked belleville washer hence why i had no foward. So i dont think its a clogged or sludge filled system issue, which leads me back to the fluid. Im going to get the recommended cnh hy trans premium fluid as per the case recommendation and see how that goes. Im going to flush the cooler and drain the tranny system and see what happens? Maybe that might be the issue, the generic fluid might be getting to hot and not doing what it is supposed do? Sound logical?
Have one of these with no working hydrualics took return line to pump off today it was empty the upper resivior is full to the overflow plug but the lower resiviors on each arm witthe fill plug up by the radiator are both empty any ideas or experience with this?
As fast as I know the reservoirs should all be connected to make one big one, not sure how the lower could be empty and the upper full, I think the plugs by the radiator are vents not really fill points so the fluid is normally below them. Maybe they are clogged up causing a hydro lock try pulling them off while you fill from the top by the cab maybe 🤔
I'm having a problem with my 580B case ...it was working fine then it started not wanting to move forward or backwards....but if I let set and fire it back up later it move again...... Thought I might have over filled it an when I started draining it ....it looked like it had a lot of air in the fluid.......so I. Going to try changing filter and fluid ...any other suggestions would be great
Only transmission problems I've run into was due to not enough fluid, filter is a good first check of course. If your getting air entrained in the fluid it may not be "locking up" sunset it's all hydraulic the air would act like a spring similar to air in a brake line... Letting it sit would make sense because the air would have time to settle out and you would have good liquid again not a liquid gas emulsion. Just a guess of course hard to troubleshoot in comments. Good luck hope you get it running.
