I grew up with a mom who didn't have a clue how to say no (to others. Was ok with saying it TO ME). Anyway, I had a terrible example of coping with "I said yes and I really am not happy about what I'm stuck with now." One of the best things ever, as an adult, was learning to say "no, thanks" and realizing that it was perfectly ok. People actually understand about 95% of the time. Thanks for some guidelines on this. It IS ok to say no.
Saying no is an extremely slippery slope. I started saying no to EVERYTHING until I had almost no friends, never went anywhere or did anything except go to work and go home. Saying no is important but don't throw away opportunities or experiences just because it becomes a reflex like it did with me.
I literally got this in my recommended right after having a full on internal rant at myself for agreeing to do something that I would get nothing out of doing.
I believe in the healthy practice of saying no, and I believe in planting trees. This video was a tactful way of still helping the cause while getting the message out that it's okay to stick to your prior commitments. It is hard to say no to things in this culture. Everyone seems to want more of your time, money, or emotional labor. Sometimes it feels selfish to take a step back from those requests, but I think spreading yourself too thin over many commitments leads to huge amounts of stress.
Saying no is so simple yet so difficult. Unfortunately we have to live for ourselves and not others all the time, so saying no gives us more control of what we really want to do.
These videos surprisingly help me to incorporate little things day to day to help my life. I never thought RUclips videos would actually help my life besides laughing lmao
I agree that saying no is necessary for us to have time to rest and recharge and do what we were doing, but sometimes when you say no to friends every week they get disappointed and I get scared they won't want to hang out another time...
