  • Inspired by the lifestyle of Mongolian nomads, National Geographic adventurer Tim Cope set off on an epic journey. In three and a half years, he traveled 6,000 miles on horseback across the breadth of Genghis Khan's ancient empire-a trek that took him from Mongolia to Hungary. In this short interview from the Banff Centre, Cope talks about his rough start learning how to ride and care for horses.

    Wow, i am Mongolian, but very jealous of this guy and very proud of him for doing what he did. Last time i ever rode a horse was 12 years ago. What a great guy. I wish that i could do something like he did. Maybe someday.

    How do you travel to different countries using horses? Do you need special permits to cross the border? Some sort of medical check ups for the horses?

    • @baypeppard2565
      @baypeppard2565 5 лет назад +5

      Your horses need to be in very good shape and need to make sure you have all medical things taken care of, and if the horse gets sick on the journey you have to stop and take it back or take it to the vet

      He had to take brakes during the Siberian/Russian winters, raise money, find new horses (he wasn't allowed to take the mongol horses the whole distance) and his father died from a car accident while he was still on the way to the Danube - he travelled back to Australia for the funeral and had a really hard time coping with the loss.

      At least the horse as a species don't go extinct because early humans found a use for them. Can't say that for the sabletooth tiger.
