I looked up comments on a book about Annie Wilkins who at age 63 rode from Maine to California in the mid 50s. Several said “ a person couldn’t do that nowadays “. I’m glad to see you proving that wrong, that there are still good people out there in the world.
Saw you and your horses on 160 between Durango and Pagosa was trying to help you out because I thought you were waiting for an outfitter. And your horses looked like they needed some nourishment from a long ride. Sorry I didn't realize the knowledge and preparedness you had done for your trip. After seeing your video understand why you didn't want a ride. Good luck my friend to you and your horses. Stay safe. Will be following your videos. I have a mustang too and they are great horses
I love Bella! She is a true friend. And, such a beauty. It was neat to hear her story. It was also neat to hear the story of Butch Cassidy stopping by. My great great grandma, Matilda Davis lived in Duchesne Utah. Butch Cassidy and some of his gang helped on their farm from time to time. My great grandma, Maude Davis, against her parent’s will, ended up marrying a member of the gang. His name was Elzy Lay. She lived in one of the gangs hideouts with the bunch and had a daughter, Marvel with Elzy Lay. He never gave up his lifestyle and Matilda divorced him and moved back home. Elzy Lay later went to jail and while there made good friends with the guy in charge of the prison. One day that man’s wife was kidnapped and Elzy Lay helped get her back somehow (most likely he orchestrated the whole thing since he was the brains and planner for Butch Cassidy). But, when the wife was saved and was safe the prison warden let Elzy Lay go early from prison. He went on to marry another woman and raise a family. My great grandmother, raised their daughter, Marvel and remarried and had more children. One of them was my Grandfather. She endured many hardships as her 2nd, 3rd, and 4th husband each died early. Elzy Lay came to his daughter, Marvel’s Highschool graduation in Heber City, Utah after not seeing her for years. I thought I’d share her story that all began from meeting Butch Cassidy. Can’t wait to see how your week goes in the next video. Good luck! It is neat to see that folks are kind and help out where they can. Stay warm and safe!
Whoa! What an amazing story, @cherolynroland1940 -- thank you very much for sharing this. What a treasure is this family history of your Great Grandmother Maude, your Great Aunt Marvel and your kinship with Elzy Lay. Thank you! 😊Wow! What a great thing to share here!
Not sure if these videos are realtime, or how far behind they are. But im in oklahoma…depending on your route and timing ill help any way i can. Got some horses of my own and plenty of grass. Ill be keepin up. Blessings. And Stay safe.
Thank you for representing and being a voice for our wild miustangs! Being from NV the Mustangs are so close to my heart. Really love following your journey. Thank you
Hello from Durango! We heard about you after you had come through, many people have been talking about you. 😊 I know several horse (and mustang) lovers that would have loved to host you. Maybe it’d be worth posting your upcoming locations for this purpose? It would be cool if the horse community connects with their friends on your route to line up places to stay, food, showers etc. I’m sure many would love to host & support you! ALSO…Fantastic video, filming, & beautiful stories, especially about Belle!
Amazing videos. I can’t wait for your videos to come out each week! It’s exciting to follow your journey and the people you meet along the way. Thanks for sharing
WOW! Just found you channel. Man this thing you are doing just tugs at the Frontier Heart of every American... and this one for sure. Sending you Many Blessing of good Folk to help you along the way. Are you coming through Wisconsin. I am guessing not with the quick look I had at the map route. Love what you are doing. Patti Bee, 61 yr. old in Madison, Wisconsin.
Jake, you're a good man. You got this! I know you're already in Colorado, but if you're coming through Arizona on the way back, you're welcome here on my homestead. I have mustangs, I raise my own meat and food and I'll make you a great meal and put your horses up, you're welcome to all the hay and water they can take on if you'd like. I'm proud of you. It's wild to think you're half my age. I still feel as young as you. Either way, keep on going. You got this for sure.
I’m captivated by the beautiful scenery and the love you have for your beautiful horses. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Stay strong Jake! You are an inspiration.
Love the story about Butch Cassidy! My folks both grew up in and around Dolores. They had just told us another story about him a few weeks ago. They grew up with a man that had been a child when the robbery of the Telluride bank happened. He and some other kids were playing around the water tank in Stoner, above Dolores, when Butch Cassidy and some of his gang rode up on their way through, directly after the bank robbery. They told the kids to go home, because something was about to happen. The kids went and hid in the bushes. Sure enough, when the train rolled up, they made everyone get off, and give them their valuables, including their hats. Apparently Butch Cassidy had lost his in the robbery, and needed another one. Then they let everyone get back on, and the train went on it’s way. As they rode off, he yelled into the bushes that the kids could come out now as it was all over. Great story!😊
Hi. Blessings to you, your horses and all the people who have helped you. Im in Oklahoma. I've been to some of the places you are going. Beautiful country. To be on horse back and make that trip would be fantastic. Horses are great animals.
I'm so impressed with the amount of kind people who offer you a place to stay and corrals for the horses. It's good to know that there are generous, kind, and helpful people in this country! Also, I appreciate knowing more about Bella! What a fantastic mare.
Wow! I love just to see all of the scenery. All of the beautiful areas that you go through with the towns the countrysides. Thank you for letting me experience this. I never knew half of the stuff that was in our country and then you explain everything so well. Love the videos! Jake❤❤❤❤
I am loving this so much. And yes Mustangs are amazing horses and definatly have their place in the equestrian world as a versatile mount that anyone can enjoy
You were talking about your back getting sore with all the miles you've put on. I did 20 mi one day in my horse and I was so sore by the time I got to my destination. I don't know how you do it. You really got to be in shape to do this. I hear you! I'm so impressed with those horses and you as a cowboy. God bless you and your adventure. Be safe❤
I love the sound of your horse's hooves make on the road, it's therapeutic😊. It looks like your making good progress. I'm so glad that kind people are offering you and your horses a place to stay for a night or two. God is going before you and preparing the way. Love your videos. ❤
Hey Jake, it's been very interesting watching you navigate your way across country for a great and important cause..the Colorado scenery was beautiful. Glad to see and hear people you a hand along the way. Hope you , Bella, Eddy and Denver safe travels. God bless and keep safe.
Jake, I was traveling today and saw you and your horses just outside of Chama, New Mexico. A little cold with a bit of snow..! I have seen a few of your videos. I think your ride is awesome..!
Hi, I’ve been really inspired by your journey of riding 7,000 miles through nature, and I’d love to learn more about your approach. How do you structure breaks during the day? When you mentioned 7-8 hours a day in the saddle, do you mean actual riding time, or does that include all the breaks? For someone new to riding who has a passion for traveling with a horse rather than competing in traditional horse sports like dressage or show jumping, how should one start? Do you have any resources or videos focused on preparing both mentally and practically for a long-distance horse journey? I’m not very interested in the typical horse sports most people are into, like show jumping or dressage, as I feel they often confine the horse to unnatural, restrictive environments. Instead, I’m drawn to the freedom and partnership that comes with horse traveling and Equine-Assisted Learning. It would be amazing if you could create a course or guide for beginners who want to travel on horseback and experience that bond with their horse, rather than focusing on competitive events. Thanks again for sharing your adventure and wisdom!
You heard the story about white horses being seen too easily over the night and supposed to be the night time protector since it’s needs to stay more alert. Due to that fact and vulnerability. They are all special in some way and I guess! Read that from the author who lived the book. Naked Liberty. Its a great read if you need something to read over this fantastic journey. I still have my forst horse. Got her at two. Shes a tennessee walker bred for show and I feel I saved her from all that mess. Shes 23 1/2 and has moonblindness. Full time face mask is all there is for it and im glad that is working well. I keep a horse for her so she’s got her herd here at home ….this horse poor home old lady staying the course for her. You take care!
Got to meet you today on your journey. Going thru Jeromesville Ohio. DO you have an updated map going back home . Safe travels for you and your mustangs.
Hey Jake. We are in colorado. Just down the road where too many mustangs are wearhoused. I love these horses and very upset about the situation BLM and ranchers want them eliminated. Let us know what route your taking and we would like to see you.
You are certainly trying to do this the right way, keeping your horses safety and health in mind, but for the life of me, I can't think of a good reason why someone would choose to do this. Back in the day, when crossing America meant a chance to own your land and attain a new life, using animals was the only way it could be done. That's not the case today, and I think the horses would agree with me. I'm not thinking the horses would say "Yeah, let's go 7000 miles," if they could talk. Still, if this is something you always wanted to do, I am glad that you are putting your horses' welfare first.
All three of my horses are mustangs. My mission on this journey is to raise awareness about mustang adoption as there are over 50,000 mustangs in government holding that need homes. Thanks for watching and here's a video that explains more about my horses and the Year of the Mustang-- ruclips.net/video/luD5v-NgjKU/видео.html
In the morning, then in the evening once I set up camp and then all night long as they are picketed on a 25 foot rope allowing them to move around in a large area to graze at will. I also stop and take a break for 15-20 minutes, every 2 hours or so during the day and they can graze then. All that said, so many good people have offered us a place to stay along the way and in those cases they have always been given good amounts of hay, on top of the grazing they still get to do. Great question!
Yes, they are acutely aware of their surroundings and only sleep for short stretches at a time like most prey animals. Of course, in this country there's not too much left that will try to take down a 1200 lb. horse. Great question.
I looked up comments on a book about Annie Wilkins who at age 63 rode from Maine to California in the mid 50s. Several said “ a person couldn’t do that nowadays “. I’m glad to see you proving that wrong, that there are still good people out there in the world.
I'm reading her book now
Anything that was done 50- 100 years ago could probably be done today. It's all in you're mind and the limits you put on yourself
Proud of you brother. I love to see you chasing your dreams.

Mustangs are incredible, hope to adopt soon.....
I saw you and your horses walking through Bayfield Colorado. We were grading road in cr 510.

John Marston what are you doing here????
Dunno if this has been asked, but what breeds are your 3 horses? Thanks for the video by the way 🙂

So how often do your horses get to eat on this journey.

What was your route for this trip? It’s my dream to ride into the Rocky Mountains up to Oregon one day.
Will the horses alert you at night if coyotes and what not predators approach your campsite?
Yes, they are acutely aware of their surroundings and only sleep for short stretches at a time like most prey animals. Of course, in this country there's not too much left that will try to take down a 1200 lb. horse. Great question.
did you just call saturday the last day of the week? did you forget sundays?
old fashion way
Brother can I join you this winter ❄️
I’m about to do a similar journey. Any way to talk ?
I’m here cause I’m done paying these insurance companies
You should use cart...horse cart...it will be lot easier for horses then get you on top whole day...come on
