Last I checked, Texas, USC, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas A&M, Old Miss, Georgia are not running out of money. Last I checked, Oregon beat out several of those programs for top recruits. Oregon is not paying players any more than all the other top schools. Oregon has been good for 20 plus years and they did it with mostly 3 and 4* recruits. Chip Kelly took them to a natty and they were not getting 5* consistently. They had DeAnthony Thomas. Mariota was a 3*. Herbert was a 2* QB out of high school. Oregon did not buy on field success, they earned it.

@Mark-zx2bq Phil knight is directly quoted as offering unlimited NIL money to Oregon. He wants to see a natty before he dies and he's 86, I don't blame him. All schools buy recruits, and most of them have the cards stacked in their favor. Not a lot of high tier recruits come out of Oregon, so we have to fight every other school for them and pull them out of other states, having about the same amount of money as the other schools to do this helps quite a bit lol

It's not how much we're offering, it's the structure of the deals. We offer long term opportunities in our deals other people just aren't or can't. It's not like we're spending ridiculously more than others either. Based on what Moore said, the monetary compensation was basically the same as Texas.
What's happening is that now that it's legal and it wouldn't be conspicuous if high level recruits come here, we can offer the same as other schools and they're getting out recruited.

Prior to 2000, the huge majority of his donations had gone to the University’s Library and Oregons Law School. His biggest donation then came in the form of expanding Autzen Stadium after 2001 season. Nike and Oregon started the new jersey and their new look in the late 90’s after Oregon went back to back of a Rose and Cotton bowls appearance. That’s when he approached Bellotti and asked what he could do. They started with the new look and a fresh appearance in their jerseys. In 2000, after Oregon tied with UW and OSU for a three way tie for conference champions, then beating Texas to finish ranked 7th in seasons final polls, Knight donated a crap load to the Autzen project. From that point on, he has donated a ton to the athletics departments. Since 2016, he has donated 1 billion towards two new research facilities in bio engineering and other medical research.
So yes, they haven’t won the big one, but they have appeared in two title games since. Won multiple Rose and Fiesta Bowls. Final rankings of #2 with three different head coaches in that time frame. 5 of 6 coaches has finished ranked in the top 5.
It’s not like Oregon hasn’t done anything. They’ve done very well considering where they were 50 years ago. They don’t have the history of the USC and UW’s of the west coast. They’re still playing catch up, but it’s obvious they are getting there. UW and Oregon have overtaken USC as the two most successful teams on the west coast. That in itself is huge. They are the only two teams who have appeared and won a playoff game, and have actually played in the title game in the last 15 years. Joining the B1G should only help the two PNW teams climb even further.

They’re mad Oregon is at the level now financially and talent wise this isn’t what they wanted bc they see how it’ll go in the future. It never made sense that kids were choosing to live in Clemson SC when they could’ve been living in beautiful Oregon and all dripped out w a relationship to Nike lmao. Everyone sound like Dabo rn when they were bashing him months ago now they got the same complaint. Ppl don’t like the changing of the guard, Miami for example came in did it differently and they relentlessly took 20 years to bring it down. Oregon is not offering cash way out of line with other programs' NIL. They just aren't. How do I know? -- because if Division Street were truly willing to spend whatever it takes, unlimited budget, Oregon would have landed _EVERY_ 5-star they were after -- they have not.
Oregon is offering at the top end of market rate. If a kid is worth 1 million USD on the market, Division Street could pony up $5 and win that contest every single time. But that hasn't happened.
If Oregon were way out ahead of Ohio State and Alabama and Georgia in the recruiting rankings, then it would be fair to wonder. But they aren't. Oregon should end up top-5, but the #1 class is a bit of a longshot.

Rich Uncle Phil has already dumped $1 billion dollars into Eugene and has zero “nattys” to show for it. At what point will he figure out you can’t “buy” a championship. Good as Oregon is, they are not Bama or Ohio State or Michigan.
Cowherd explained this succinctly a few years ago. Why would anyone choose to go play in Eugene, OR if they can play in Los Angeles or Seattle or Dallas or just about any other city in America? The answer is, they won’t.
Which is why you don’t have a national championship.

Thus far, money has not bought Oregon a single championship in a major sport. Not a single one... The "O" signal they always hold up at games is actually a zero. They have to go out of state to even field a competitive team. Oregon won a basketball championship 75 years ago and weren't even called the Ducks at that point. Before Black players played, and before anything resembling March Madness. An outlier at best...
