I remember when they first came out and they were $1. Slightly bigger box, bigger portion, and the seasoning hit the spot. I would have them everytime they returned, and I gotta say from personal experience that the price was mostly fair until now. It's $2.19 where I live, and while it's cheaper than McDonald's fries, the seasoning quality and portion size decreased. I still like eating Taco Bell, but the increase in price can be off-putting to those that want to try any items.
Yeah I remember that too, $1 and everyone was getting them. Haven't had them in years, if I go to Taco Bell nowadays, I just order off the value menu. No way I'm paying $7 for one burrito that may or may not be good depending on the person making it. Can get a cheaper burrito at local Mexican restaurants.
I got them last night, and while my disappointment was measurable, you are correct in that they are no longer good.
To be honest I think lot of his prices are via delivery and delivery services notoriously increase menu prices.
I know at the start and through covid he's done lot of delivery.
It would be nice if he stipulated whether that's the cost he pays in the location or from delivery.

$3.50 for fries of that proportion is a crime
No point in going out only to get a dinky little thing of potato fried in unhealthy oil for $3.50. I can make a bowl of fries 3x what he got for for maybe $.75 including what ever sauce I want, a 10lb bag of potato goes for $5.
Just get a quality cast iron fry/veg cutter for $40(they last a life time), toss the cut potato in a healthy fat with what seasons you want. Get a baking sheet and put a baking rack on top that fits it. Spread them evenly so each piece isn't touching and bake in the oven then add a little more seasoning after. They get cooked equally on all sides because of the baking rake and and are super crispy since a fry cutter gets them down to 1/4". You can't even tell they aren't deep fried using this method.

I had them the other day. They were always my favorite, but this time, they were just disappointing. They barely had any seasoning on them. Felt like I was just dipping BK fries in the nacho cheese.

It's not profitable to have McRib on the munu all the time. Plus the longer it's around, the less interest in them. There's even a website for locating WHERE mcribs have sold most recently and for how much. One conneticut town recently saw them goin or $7. 🌮🍟Taco Bell wants to replicate the McRib without understanding the Economics.

Where are they charging $3.50 for that? It's $1.99 even in places where the damn bacon club chalupa was just $7. Tb is utterly ridiculous with the straight scamming they are doing these days.

They have algorithms to decide what to charge for items based on location. So for example they may find people are willing to spend $3.50 for nacho fries in Florida but in Tennessee it will be $2 because that's what people are willing to pay there. Anywhere with higher minimum wage or strong economy they will charge more simply because they can.
This is drug dealing 101. The whole on the menu and off the menu was a set up to charge 4 dollars a box and have nobody the wiser.
They're $2.19 in my region of Ohio. I'm torn between Reviewbrah living in a high CoL area or if he's somewhere remote where the cost of shipping everything increases the price from elsewhere in the US.

The bacon club chalupa was just a dollar more in Phoenix AZ than it was in LA California, and 2 bucks more than it was in Dallas Texas, which also was the same price Reviewbrah got it for i believe ($4.99). It was about $5.99 in LA, and almost $6.99 in AZ. It's a joke.

That's a great idea, don't listen to the nay saying poo pooers.. I would love to see John make some food hack attempts like that. One of my simple favorites is to buy the Greek gyro at Arby's and take it home to place in the fridge until it's chilled. Cold lamb rocks!

I paid around $2.50 for nacho fries at my local taco bell just the other day. So it varies heavily based on location.

That price is double what it should be... Taco Bell used to have an insane value menu and great items would pop up like these at a decent price. They fell off so hard, everyone involved in decision making for them for the past 3 years should be fired and they should start over.
They brought back the Nacho Fries, but with the addition of Yellowbird Habenero Ranch sauce in a Bell Grande form. I was really hoping Reviewbrah was going to try this sauce. It's pretty damn spicy

Yellowbird Ranch is honestly really good. Had them a couple days ago and even though I am a huge spice fan (i put hot sauce on everything), they have a pretty good kick and made me need a cup of milk. It's like 5$ for a pack of them though so I probably won't get them again, but I would love to buy the sauce if they ever release it!

I love the Nacho Fries. They miss out on a new customer base everytime they get rid of them. Are they that big of an inconvenience to make that they can’t keep them permanently…
There is a potato shortage...
I’m a manager at Taco Bell and it’s awful. Almost every car orders like 5 orders of frys and we’re only supposed to keep 8 orders at a time on line. Our deep fryers aren’t big enough to fry huge batches they’d have to give all stores bigger and better fryers. They keep them as limited time because our sales boost every time they come back. My store specifically gets about a 7% sales boost. If they kept them as a permanent item, the sales would eventually go back to normal. Basically, bringing them back twice a year gives them more money than if they kept them forever.
Let me tell you how terrifying it has been to see products like this get worse over time. My main trigger is the Wendy’s Baconator. The thing had nearly the same flat surface area as a Whopper on initial release, and has for roughly the last decade, gradually decreased in size, to the point where it’s really no bigger than a double cheeseburger. It’s inexcusable and just not right, especially considering the cost of inflation.
Appreciate the review. I never eat this kind of food, so it’s interesting to see a fair, balanced, expert take on it.

Yes, I completely agree with you, just put them on the permanent menu already! We the fans have requested this of Taco Bell and they still ignore us. They do what they want to do. But $3.50!? Dude, where do you live? It's only $2.19 here in Ohio. If it weren't for these fantastic fries, I'd have no reason at all to go to Taco Bell!

I don't really mess with Taco Bell anymore. Their regular menu these days is very limited, and I'm not a fan of the "limited time" items that come and go quickly and repetitively. For me there are some limited time menu items that are understandable when it comes to fast food (ex: the McDonald's lobster rolls or Wendy's swiss and mushroom burger) because those items may be seasonal or not regularly stocked. But for things like nacho fries, how hard is it for them to just regularly keep potatoes stocked in a freezer?
I always look to Review Brah to give me the scoop on the new fast food items. Got the Diablo sandwich from Arby's cause of him.

They need to make it a permanent item because at this point the 'limited release' is only bringing back customers that are only going to taco bell for the fries and as soon as they are gone that business will drop again. If they keep it on the menu there will be a permanent increase in business that outweighs the spike from a limited release
The nacho fries are the only reason I go to Taco Bell these days. They're so good and no other fast food place has fries that compare
I sat there today not believing I've been watching this for so long. But you're the every mans reviewer. You review the food so many people give a go. Some troglodytes may whine about the selections you pick to review, but those people just don't understand how well items like this sell. I may never try a double down or these nacho fries, but I'm damn happy to have people like you reviewing stuff like this. It's fun.
I think Taco Bell could try coming up with a few loaded nacho fry versions as well. Maybe with chili, nacho cheese and diced onions. You could put jalapenos or bacon.
No way those fries would be so soggy and gross. Only way to make it work would be to separate the toppings and fries and allow the customer to load the fries themself

I looked on the app today and I had enough when I saw that the price of build your own cravings box was raised to $5.99. That $5 box was the one thing I could count on. I’m just gonna have to switch my go to fast food place now.
Me my sister and my mom went to Taco Bell couple months back we got what we usually get and it’s like 35 bucks or something I was like hold on a minute this can’t be right like I know inflation has hit every fast food place but I’d rather go to Olive Garden for those prices or anywhere that’s better guess the days of Taco Bell being cheap are over.
I hope you can find more in life so you can count on something besides a deal at taco bell

Yum… I love that vegetarian option at Taco Bell, and I usually order the Nacho Fries with a bean & cheese burrito.
Why does Taco Bell keep taking Nacho Fries off the menu just to bring them right back? I know they are the most notorious fast food chain for doing this with different menu items, but even more so with Nacho Fries. Sometimes it's like, " Yo Taco Bell, just $#!+ or get off the pot already."
When I get hungry, I watch your Taco Bell reviews and then I find that I have a sudden loss of being hungry anymore 😂.

I love that we all watch a guy eat french fries and he gets paid to do it. But realistically, he provides an incredibly valuable service of making me hungry for average fast food, and for that, we are eternally in your debt.

I think your analysis is legitimately correct regarding business strategy for the fries.
The act of re-releasing an item has diminishing marginal utility from a company profits perspective. Thus, at a certain point, the periodic profits from re-releasing them won’t stack up to what the profits would be in the same time period if they always sold them.
But hey these are complex cost-benefit calculations done by expert data analysts so what do I know 😝

Taco Bell should make the Nacho Fries a permanent addition to the menu and change their value menus that come with an "extra" soft taco to include Nacho Fries instead or give customers the option.

The Nacho Fries only really work for me when paired with the nacho cheese sauce Taco Bell provides. Also, I find that the Nacho Fries tend to get cold rather quickly, perhaps due to their potato density. As others have mentioned, Taco Bell needs to make the Nacho Fries a permanent part of their menu at this point. They should consider dropping the small potatoes in a cup that they offer, as they often taste soggy and rubbery by the time you get around to eating them because of the steam generated in the cup container they are stored in.
I had them like a month or so ago. They were okay. They're like $2.20 here, I think they should be closer to $1.50

What upsets me about the fries is they keep bringing them back, when they could bring back something like the Double Crunchwrap supreme. They are the cheapest to make for sure and they sell, so I see why.

I tried Nacho Fries on your recommendation - absolutely INEDIBLE. Massively over-spiced. Eating them was like eating teaspoons of Spice Blend. I think that might have been just the store I was at, but in my opinion, they were an absolute disaster.

I literally only go to Taco Bell when they have Nacho Fries available!!
When they were first released they had a kick of cheesy, taco seasoning and were sooo good. cheese sauce masked the seasoning taste so I preferred it without it but now with the re-releases I feel like they cut back heavy on the seasoning and you get a little tickle of it.

Thanks for the review! This is actually my first time hearing about them. I rarely go out to eat.
The most ironic thing about the Nacho Fries is that Taco Bell once had a $2 special that included a burrito with beef nachos and a soft drink claiming that fries aren't a meal, but with the same $2 you could get fries with, you could get that meal instead. The fact that they decided to sell fries shortly afterward makes you wonder if that defeats the purpose of that meal in the first place.
I'm surprised you did not to the "yellow bird" edition that is also a limited time only. Don't recall them from before but I'm not a fan of much from Taco Bell these days. Can't handle spice and they put some variation of spice in practically everything now.

You should've tried the yellowbird nacho fries! I thought they were really good. The yellowbird sauce actually has some spice. If you order online and add extra fries, its only an extra 60 cents (at least for me) and the portion was perfect. Absolutely loved.
I like the fries... but I don't eat fastfood so often that I would go out of my way to get them. But if they were there and in stock, I'd take them over the chips anyday.
Get the deluxe box! Definitely worth your money, comes with a chalupa, 5 layer burrito, Dorito shell taco and a nacho fries. Nacho fries is such an amazing with the combo!
I do indeed take the Nacho Cheese and put it on other items that need it more, the fries do have a good enough flavor on their own.
Stuff those nacho fries in the cheesy bean and rice burrito. Hella delicious
