Todd Rundgren has written so many incredible songs it's hard to name favorites when there are so many.

I am so glad PG realizes the brilliance of Todd - and Todd Rundgren is a HUUUUUGE influence on my own guitar playing

Nail on the head. I've also called it the Rundgren chord for many years. One of my personal heroes too. Thank you for shining a spotlight on his awesome talent.

Ahh! So much to love about this: 1. That you're still so excited about music! It's a joy to watch, 2. That you're such a fan of Todd's - I can't imagine my life without his songbook, 3. The harmony lesson - that major chord (with the flat 11 in the bass?) is a major heart-strings puller. Would love to see a tribute concert and live album before he passes.

Todd was 68 in 2016. (b. 1948) Which means he turns 70 in a couple of weeks! OMG... Great Todd chord work!

Paul, please do an all Todd guitar video, doing just what you're doing here, with playing through parts and sequences, revealing secrets and such. It would be awesome!

XM radio needs to have Todd Rundgren channel and. also a Kinks channel.

The only people who are not Todd fans are those who, for whatever reason, have never been turned on to him. If you hear him, you love him. If you ever want to cry, check out Todd and the Metropole Orchestra doing Pretending to Care.

Why Rundgren hasn't at least gotten a lifetime achievement Grammy is beyond me.

Fires of Rock is basically a heavy metal version of the Rundgren Chord!

Ooops Wrong Planet is a stunning guitar treasure - just Trapped on it's own is fantastic!

I've loved that chord & all it's inversions from Todd for decades but I think it can be found before TR in Sparks from Tommy by the Who 1968. Todd claimed he got those progressions from Debussy.

What is the name of that first riff Paul is playing?

      It's Couldn't I Just Tell You, from Something/Anything. It's the father/mother of Big Star's September Gurls

John P Molloy indeed it is! And for me this was a classic case of not realizing how cool a riff was until I heard it out of context. Time to go pull out the vinyl, get a beverage and light a stick of incense! What a great record.

not super intuitive playing these types of chords on guitar vs how they were mostly played on the keys. Todd's current live guitarist Jesse Gress is a master at playing awesome rhythm guitar on his songs
