Yeah I’d be another outcast who stands by old Skool Stihl Hp orange bottle. I buy it by the case of 4 one gallon jugs. I run it at 42:1 (saws, blowers, trimmers)and 32:1 on old steel sleeve engines (Rotax approx 2,500hrs+ usage). I always use a Ratio-rite cup and mix non-E in 2.5 gallon hash marked translucent hdpe jugs. I never mix haphazardly, both fuel and oil are exact. I do use a de-carboning agent containing suspended ptfe particles a couple times a year applied directly into the carb with engine running. Lots of smoke… carbon gone.
When I was selling firewood I had an 011,028 & 036 and used the Stihl oil cans. When they went to plastic I used the orange bottles until my 028 bit the dust. Switched to Maxima 927 castor motorcycle oil. Love it to this day in warm weather
I thank the Good Lord Jesus every morning for the roof over my head, the food on my table, and for the fact that there are better 2-stroke oils available than Stihl HP Ultra. Thanks for the video Richard.
Checked red armor 100ml bottle only 97 ml. Never thought to measure these small bottles. Going back to liter bottles and measure oil every mix. Good video Richard!
Old steel cylinder engines must be run lower than 50:1 for sure IMO. Everyone has their own opinions and procedures (and favorite oil) but I personally run 40-42.5:1 in my modern engines (Nikasil) and 32:1 in hard working old-timy engines.
I started running amsoil sabre and I bout a gallon of it and mix in a ratio rite, but I kept a small 2.6 oz bottle that I refill after proper measuring,, just to keep the convenience and to have it handy just in case, gives me much better peace of mind.
Richard...The easiest oil to mix in my experience is Amsoil Dominator. Next would be Optima2 followed by Motul 800. One of the most difficult to mix and requires a lot of shaking of the gas-oil mix is Amsoil Saber. I love the results but you can't pour a bottle in a gas can and fill it with gas. You have to shake the crap out of the can to get a complete mix. Just a couple words of advice!
Just to be safe, you could short your Gasoline back 10%. Instead of a full 1.0 gallons, stop the pump at .90, or thereabouts, and ensure you would have a ratio closer to 50:1, or richer.....at least you'll have some safety room, and don't run into a 60:1 mix because your oil bottle was short.
Or just dont buy these little bottles and go with bigger ones with the measurement included. Or just use motorcycle 2 stroke and forget about these cheapo "small engine" underperforming oils.
hello Richard thanks for this video the information is valuable so if I understood correctly (I am French ) you say that the HP stihl semi-synthesis is of good quality it is classified FD I am passionate about oils, and fuel The aspen trial coming up? cordially
Hi Have you covered stihl hp super at all , or any had any experience with it. Also the Lucas 2 stroke oil , i dont think ive seen that being covered, any thoughts Many thanks
I got hit for 66$ for a 30" chain at the local stihl dealer a while back. Single shots of oil are waayyy higher at the box stores than at the dealer i work for, red armor pre measured is 2.81$ for 1 gal, 3.85$ for 2 gal, 4.42$ for 2.5 gal, 8.75$ for a 5 gal. Sales guy could have tagged them wrong though.
That sounds about right. As for the chain, I've heard some lofty numbers at the dealership. There still seems to be some deals online. Gordy at Westcoast Saw is now an Oregon dealer and has great pricing on chain. My local dealer told me earlier this year that the price increase on chain was huge. The price he was selling chain for, was less than what his dealer cost was on the new order. He wouldn't say what his dealer discount was but, I going to guess around 40%ish.
Shameful. Home Depot and Lowes are Echo and Husqvarna's biggest retail customers. They are buying cheaper products, across the board, cheaper than any other dealer in the country.
I ran husqvarna xp oil for years , never one issue , but got rid of my husqvarna saws and now run 3 echo saws and a couple of old stihls now i use echo power blend gold , its good stuff as in the uk we can't get red armour for some reason.
@@mikefisc9989stihl super is stihl ultra as we don't get stihl ultra in the uk . Its stihl hp super which in the usa is stihl ultra and made by castrol
Here in the Nordic country's most people use 50:1 premix. Sthil and Husqvarna fuels are not that popular. Maybe a price/quality point. Most (as I know) use Aspen 2T. Seems like a common thing here. When i get my 550 XPG mk2 back from portwork i will add some more oil to the 5 liter can. up to 40:1. Thanx for sharing.
Hi Richard, you got to remember it’ll be a little less than what you’re getting Because at the top level of the oil and whatever you’re mixing in cup or beaker they will be a meniscus on top of the oil and it will actually run up the cup or beaker and give you a false reading and actually what it is Thanks.
Those bottles look exactly the same as we get in the UK. So they should be able to get 100mls in them like we have in the UK to make 50:1. I will try and find one and measure it I tend to run Motul in the 1 litre size.
Just so you know you measure the bottom of the meniscus, not the middle or top. The liquid will tend to curve downward (the edges are higher) This curve is called the meniscus. Always read the measurement at the bottom of the meniscus..
If I'm reading the correct table from The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Handbook 133 "Checking the Net Contents of Packaged Goods Current Edition - 2023"... Appendix A. Table 2-6 Maximum Allowable Variations MAVs "More than 66 mL to 125 mL" MAVs = "5.6 mL". So the least a 76.9mL bottle should be is 71.3mL They've got a whole test procedure on how to determine mL contents.
I don't care what the NIST standard is. It's a problem when the package says 76.9ml and you're paying for 76.9ml, but you're only getting 72ml. It's a potential problem for your equipment and and problem for your wallet when you're trying to get your fuel to oil ratios correct.
Lets just be honest….if you buy anything Chainsaw or Lawnmower related at Lowes or Home Depot you may need some experienced guidance and skooling from older farts. The younger generation seem resistant to older advice it seems and that’s a total fail (F). The old saying “if you have a hard head you better be equipped with a soft ass” comes to mind.

Love the oil videos keep them up!
I agree I think we’re being ripped off by some oil companies or brands 😢

I figured most are shy that's why I measure my oil in measuring cup! Thanks for sharing!
I’ve always have a few quarts of amsoil saber on hand and use a measure cup.

Trust but verify. Good on you!
Interesting. I always used a graduated cylinder as I mix 40-1 for most equipment and 32-1 for my old Lawn Boy Mowers. Thanks Rich!

Yes, we have onsite fuel at the tree company. When I mix 30 gallons of saw gas (Saber) I have to drizzle it in as I'm pumping.
Again- thanks for sharing your results.
I usually mis 2 gallons at a time but this week I mixed 5 ..and separate 2 gallons of red armor..interesting.have vp in gallon cans it's super high
Another great video, Richard. Nice to my pond water measures out correctly! 😅

It's a pity you can't try the stihl hp super its a great oil way better than ultra.
Hi

HP Super is not available in the US. I need to test the Lucas. A lot of people use it.
Many thanks , love the videos ,

A $66 chain should include at the very least a reach around.
Weird, the Stihl hp in Australia is red. What do you do with all this extra oil after you’re done measuring it out? Oil heater? Bar oil?
Home Depot does the same thing with Red Armor. I save over $3.00 by buying it from one of the local Echo dealers. (1 gallon mix)
Shameful. Home Depot and Lowes are Echo and Husqvarna's biggest retail customers. They are buying cheaper products, across the board, cheaper than any other dealer in the country.
Amazing the cost difference from a small bottle to a quart bottle. On top of that you are being shorted on top of that.

that pond water is some of the best stuff you can buy, been running it for years and it has done excellent in all my machines.

It’s been awhile but I was paying 85 dollars a gallon for Red Armour think it was last spring
Man, that's a lot. I bought a gallon of Husqvarna XP + for like 50 bucks to my door off amazon a few months ago.
My local Husqvarna dealership has prices lower than Lowes. Lowes be gouging people
Will that ultra be used for assemby lube! Thank you for your informative vidios.
🤣
You got a sub from me thx Richard
Engine tech and chemist, who’d a thought😁
Dang, and i thought amsoil was expensive. Lol
Ill stick with my dominator and marvels mystery oil blend.

Getting to the point it's too expensive to leave the house. Why do people go to Lowes?
IKR
Speed and convenience, when it’s the closest place of that type.
@@ToddAdams1234 that would suck if that was the best closest place. I feel for those people.
😮😮😮 mantaap
I always buy the slime by the gallon and measure it out. It's a lot cheaper for me.
Did it hurt to spend your hard earned money on Stihl ultra?
Had to have!!
I pay $22.63 each for the 24” x cut chain on Amazon

I wonder if the guys at NIST mix/measure their own fuel 🤔 On a more serious note thank you for the info. That is good to know.

ouch, I pay $79-80 for 4 liters of motul 710 or 800...
Now thats close enough for government work. Good to see they can atleast measure😅
I go to Home Depot because they support Trump
SCIENCE!
This 500i ..a 30 dollar gallon of vp ..from dealer is gone on 2 tanks its gas guzzler..worse than my 97 dodge v8
They are thirsty
