"Come and Get Your Love" is a song by the Indigenous rock band Redbone. It was released as the lead single from their album "Wovoka" in 1973. The song was written by band member Lolly Vegas and produced by Lolly and his brother Pat Vegas, who were both members of Redbone.

I grew up in the 70s/80s & this song was huge, huge, huge in the 70s. On that radio all the time. So cool that they performed in their Native American clothing on Midnight Special. Until they did that, most people had no idea they were Native American/Mexican. Iconic song.

The word "redbone" is a Cajun term for a mixed-race person, which the band adopted to signify their mixed ancestry. The Vasquez-Vegas brothers were of Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican heritage. The band often alluded to Cajun and New Orleans culture in their lyrics and performing style.
This is one of those songs that you can’t get out of your head all day after hearing it. Very catchy.
Redbone has been around since 1970 (and they were great back then). The song by them that you MUST hear is “Maggie”. I promise you will not be disappointed.

It's just as awesome today as it was in 1974. I was 14 years old and watched it live on the Midnight Special (never missed that show!). Timeless greatness! Redbone was ground breaking at the time and we were all there for it. This song has been saved as a favorite on my playlist. I listen to it often just for the happiness it brings, and it transports me back to the best times of my life. Glad they got rediscovered by whole new generations with Guardians of the Galaxy. Don't dis us boomers y'all, we had it all and we had fun!!!

You should listen to the song Rumble by Link Wray who was an indigenous guitar player in the 1950s and was very influential in the world of rock and roll.
They were studio musicians from the north west Jimmy Hendrix told them they should start their own band.

The Midnight Special. I recall watching this when it first aired...already knew the song as it was on the radio. As a young girl, I thought the guy in black was so Handsome! And I can remember dancing to the song in front of the t.v.., and so glad my parents were on a mini vacation and I had the place to myself. Had the 1 small speaker in the t.v. cranked up quite loud...lol.

Back in 1971 my band got to play a rock festival with them in Florida. They were great!!!

Us Boarding school kids use to listen to them all the time in 1970s in Oklahoma. It gave us someone to look up to that was Native like us..
Redbone was one of the best groups back in day. I think they were more popular out west and in Canada then the eastern parts of the US. But for anyone like myself who grew up with an Native American background knew them well! They were our heros. This song was just 1 of many hits they had. Another song was called: "The witch queen of New Orleans"Maggie , as well as "Maggie". You should check them out as well!

Back in the 70s, we just heard the song on the radio; there were no videos. Unless you caught somebody live on The Midnight Special or a similar show or bought the album, you had no idea what the band looked like. But I have always loved the song.
This was the 70s - my opinion for the best decade in music! Yes, Redbone - American Native. They were mixed with Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican descent.
I have heard of Redbone and I’ve heard the song thousands of times but never knew the two went together.

I remember this song as a kid, it loved it!! My older brothers and sister would play it on our massive wooden cabinet stereo.
They released "We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee" in 1973. The song was inspired by the horrific massacre of the Lakota Sioux by the U.S. Military in 1890. And with the so-called 'controversial' subject matter, many American radio stations banned and refused to play it in spite of it charting HIGHLY in the international markets. Yeah. Some things NEVER change. And yes, you need to watch the Midnight Special version of this to check out that Native American dance intro at the beginning. R.I.P. Tony Bellamy and Lolly Vegas. 😢❤

NPR just interviewed the last living member. They wrote songs about the government's mistreatment of Native Americans but they were banned in usa because they were controversial. He has a new album coming out. They helped their community. Come and Get your Love meant all kinds of love.

Tony Orlando and Dawn - Gents, love to add this amazing 70s group to your reaction list. They had multiple #1 songs and were huge in the early 70s. Maybe start with Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree (#1 billboard song of 1973) which was a tribute to the Vietnam Vets or Knock Three Times (#1 song multiple weeks in 1971). They have great harmonies and bet you would like em!
Actually, Yellow Ribbon was about a guy coming home from prison. Because of the time of release, it was co-opted for returning Vietnam Veterans.

This song came out when I was REALLY LITTLE.. but I remember it (It's also on the soundtrack of a movie called Dick - a satire of the Nixon Watergate scandal - which is great and has an incredible soundtrack) - I did not know they were native American.. SO COOL!!!! WOW. It's a great song - it had to be, I still remember it from when I was a toddler. The song was released in January of 1974 - so it's 50 years old this year. hard to believe.

That's why I'm sure the beginning dance is not there for these guys.

Huge song when I was a kid in the 70's in old Lanham MD. can remember my older brothers playing this on 8-track. Loved this song.
