For the first time on the channel, we are checking out Redbone with their hit "Come And Get Your Love" on the Midnight Special! This song was so good and the hook will keep you singing it for days. Hearing this definitely took me back to when I would ride around with my Dad in his old rust bucket of a Toyota! I cannot wait to hear what else this band has out there! Great songwriters and musicians. Hope you enjoy! #reaction #redbone #comeandgetyourlove #70smusic #musicreactions

The dance in the beginning was a small protest to events which were affecting the Native Americans at the time.

Redbone is the only funk rock band made up of all Mexican & Native American heritage members. This was reflected in their songs, stage costumes & album art. "Come & Get Your Love" was their biggest hit in 1974. This song was used in the 2014 movie "Guardians Of The Galaxy". But they had some other songs such as "We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee", "The Witch Queen Of New Orleans", "Wovoka", "Maggie" etc.

@@setonhillstudiosalso man you like the syncopated drumming on the drums Peter Depoe the drummer is credited for pioneering what he named the "King Kong" style of drumming which features sharply accented polyrhythms i've seen examples of these beats on RUclips since I'm a drummer !

Before Midnight Special premiered, as soon as the 11 o'clock news went off, the tv went off the air. Midnight Special changed all that. It basically was a rock concert with many performers. It was wonderful.

Born in Coalinga, California, near Fresno, brothers Patrick (bass and vocals) and Candido "Lolly" Vasquez-Vegas (guitar and vocals) moved to Los Angeles in 1959 and played for ten years in clubs under the name of Pat and Lolly Vegas. Pat won Coca-Cola's first singing competition in 1958 at age 17. He also won a recording contract, which he put off to move to Los Angeles with Lolly. They performed at local clubs on Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard while writing and playing on records by Tina Turner, Sonny & Cher, James Brown, Little Richard, and Elvis, among other legendary artists.
The word "redbone" is a Cajun term for a mixed-race person, which the band adopted to signify their mixed ancestry. The Vasquez-Vegas brothers were of Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican heritage.
The band often alluded to Cajun and New Orleans culture in their lyrics and performing style...Written in 1973, the song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on April 13, 1974. It spent 18 weeks in the Top 40, landing as the fourth-most popular song on the Hot 100 for 1974. The single was certified gold by the RIAA on April 22, 1974, which indicates that it had shipped over a million copies in North America. The song is Redbone's highest charting single and one of two Top 40 hits by the band. (An earlier recording, "The Witch Queen of New Orleans," peaked at number 21 in 1972.)
In 2014, "Come and Get Your Love" experienced a resurgence in popularity when it was featured in the Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy as one of the songs on a mixtape made for the protagonist Peter Quill. It was also included on the film's soundtrack album, which reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. It was later heard and reused in the MCU films Avengers: Endgame and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, from 2019 and 2023 respectively. In 2015..

Midnight Special was a weekly TV program that brought the best of the best music to late night TV.
This was just after 1973 Wounded Knee uprising. Leonard Peltier, a leader of AIM (American Indian Movement) has just been up for parole this past week for the murder of two FBI agents. (It is said that the conviction is totally bogus. That the FBI lied.)This is the first time he has been eligible for parole in over a decade. He is 79 years old and in poor health.

I was around 6 when this came out but I knew this song and would sing it with the radio whenever it came on in the car or when my Mom was cleaning house on Saturday mornings with the radio on. I also remember hearing it from the lowriders in my neighborhood at the time. I had a little dance I would do with this song. The thing is though I never saw the video until the 2000s because back then, if you didn't watch the Midnight Special (I wasn't allowed to stay up that late) then it was rare that you would ever see that performance again on TV. It was years before MTV and I don't think MTV ever played it either. So, when Guardians of The Galaxy featured this song, I looked it up on RUclips and fell in love with this band all over again.

Midnight Special was a variety show, usually focused on music. It was our MTV! The only way we could see our favorite bands was in concerts or shows like this. A couple of other shows that featured bands were American Bandstand, Shindig, Soul Train, The Ed Sullivan Show. I'll never forget watching The Beatle's first US appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show when I was 9. Here's one of the songs they did. Somebody colorized this and it seems the entire video has been lost so I'm glad I found this. ruclips.net/video/xcCb3BFp85w/видео.html "Please Please Me"
