there were so many beautiful things about this period in US history... a native-american band on a national tv show, starting out their song by doing a native-american dance and chant...!!! and being APPRECIATED by the audience...!!!
I love the fact that much of your audience is near my age (60). You are allowing us to relive our youth and all those good times. I think that the 70's created some of the best and unique music. Everyone was trying to develop a unique sound, not just copying everyone else. Musicianship was also a goal and this is something you continue to express and explain. Thanks again for another great evening (for me at least). I was 12. Thought they were a Black group. Found out the truth very soon thereafter. LOVED this great tune. Makes me a bit sad. Fil, you're awesome, as always. Thanks, man.
I didn't finish that last thought. Like I said, I'm old. What I was trying to say is that when I was a kid I thought it was pretty cool that our Native American nextdoor neighbors had some fellow indigenous citizens with such a huge hit song. They couldn't play it enough!
Can you imagine an act like this making it today? What An exciting and wonderful diverse musical environment existed in 1974. Midnight Special was the US version of Top of the Pops and was on Friday nights. Great job Fil
I know someone did a cover of this song but it's nowhere as good as this. Living in the States, I think American Bandstand was still airing around this time which might have similar to Top of the Pops. Also Solid Gold started airing around(I believe)the early 1980s. I agree with you that this diverse musical environment was both exciting and wonderful. Unfortunately nowadays, it seems like diversity has taken a completely different definition.
I have the impression that Midnight Special was similar to The Old Grey Whistle Test here in the UK. And from the 1990s, in the UK we had Later...with Jools Holland.
Thank you, as a Native musician song writer I appreciate your acknowledgement. I knew them, and performed with my group at concerts together with them.. Great group and purely down to earth.
I turned seventeen when this single was certified Gold by the RIAA on...drum roll please...22 April, 1974. And what day did you post this video reaction? 22 April, 2020. Great job! If it was unintentional...well, there are no accidents! Meant to be!

I was just searching YT for a good live Jesse Ed Davis! Loved him. That solo in Jackson Browne's "Doctor My Eyes" gets me every time. I'll try for Blackfoot or with Taj Mahal.
When I was 13, I won the come and get your love album at a music store when the song had just started to peak. I played the hll out of that Album. Rip guys.
A'ho, Fil, for this one. I loved them back in the day. Being of Cherokee, Comanche, Lakota ancestry I am so chuffed to see this being recognized. You rock, you really do!
Great song. This song came out when I was in third grade, the same year I started playing guitar, and was on the radio all the time back then. Good memories.
Aww, jeez, dude! This is such a blast from the past for me! In the mid-70s I lived in a nowhere town in central Texas. About 30 miles from my nowhere town was a nowhere "city'. But there was a joint where they had a lighted (about 20 years later to be called a disco) floor. There was a hired drummer on a pedestal to ape the drum track for whatever song was being played. Good memories of my friends back then!
I don't know where you know where town was but I live just outside the North Gate of Fort Hood! In the 70's the North Gate wasn't there; it was all ranch land, but the town is Gatesville.
They should be recognized for all they are finally. Hugh, Hugh, talent never to be forgotten and of all times. Put there music on and love and peace will fill the world. Pure greatness!

I remember listening to this song as a child in which I'd sing along and feel such excitement. Your analysis on Redbone gave me a musician's viewpoint as to why the song had that effect on me back then and still does now. I appreciated your brilliant guitar demonstration of the riffs, chord variations and especially how singing the melody over the chords(in diminished to resolution chord patterns)makes a difference sound-wise. The song's infectiousness definitely made sense to me. Thanks for a great analysis, Fil!
I grew up in this era, never owned the album but listen to this song over and over on the radio. Couple years ago the wife and I were traveling and this song came on. I started singing along, wife said ..what are you singing?? I responded “strumming guitar love” for 30yrs I thought it was strumming guitar love !!
What a great live band, and a great analysis as well. I remember suggesting this a while back. The traditional dance at the beginning is pretty is pretty impressive.
I remember this episode of The Midnight Special! I got to see it! There were times when I was on the wrong side of my parents law and was in bedroom jail, (w/TV, phone, stereo). Not so bad!
Yes Gayle, today's kids would NEVER understand that!!! But I would NOT trade ANY of my childhood for the garbage they all live today!! Thanks for that comment!!
This was on the radio a lot when it came out but I had no idea they were aboriginal. That’s cool! They didn’t play that intro on the radio to my recollection.
Fil, I heard an analysis of this song years ago in which mention was made of the unique hi-hat style of this drummer. He supposedly is bouncing his left stick form the snare up to the UNDERSIDE of the hi-hat, creating an interesting quick succession of accents. Give it a peek. And thank you for choosing this song and band for your analysis! Illuminating as always.
Great video, I studied this song a few years ago, and still learned something, I remember when this song came out...was a totally different world, and I miss it
One of my favorite music videos, I watch it often-- it's an instant mood-lifter. This is one of many groups I snuck out of bed to watch perform on The Midnight Special when I was a kid. Thanks for taking a look at it, great analysis as always.
This song was really a true piece of rock'n roll art. Its overall theme is universal, its melody and lyrics infuse the listener with a sense of delightful and refreshing joy.
I was in my senior year of high school when this song came out and haven't heard it in years. Thanks for the memories Fil and your professional analysis.
Love this song and just saw now, Apr. 27th , Monday good evening hope you well Fil. My mother loved this song too. Native Americans are still pushed down. Redbone was an under appreciated, excellent Band. They deserve so much more. Thanks Fil for another smack on the nose analysis!
I've never seen this and I did not know they were native American(American Indian). I was an M.P. in the U,S. Army in Frankfort, Germany at that time so I never heard it live so you are correct it does sound almost identical to the recording.
This song really takes me back to my childhood. I remember listening to this song when my mother would drive me in the family's Plymouth Belevedere which we named "Chug-a-boom" because of the sound it made when you turned on the ignition. I'd ask her if she could turn on the radio. When "Come and Get Your Love" came on, I'd sing along. I think it was on AM radio then...I think I'm giving away my age here LOL.
Props to Redbone for Including their native ceremonial dance in the intro of this song which was such a big hit at the time.

You ever listen to Redbones "Wovoka?" Talk about infectious dance music! Wow!
LOVE RED BONE THEY SHOULD BE RECONISED & INDUCED INTO THE HALL OF FAME. MY MOM LOVED THEM SO I. GREW UP LISTENING TO THESE GREAT GUYS MANY BLESSINGS. TO THE WHOLE FAMILY THANK YOU FOR SHARING ❤️❤️❤️
Unfortunately, I was not aware that Redbone was a Native American band until I saw their video. Now, I don't think I have any Native American blood in me, I'm predominantly Irish, but I do love the Native American culture!! ❤️🥰 Keep it up, Redbone!

I was 12. Thought they were a Black group. Found out the truth very soon thereafter. LOVED this great tune. Makes me a bit sad. Fil, you're awesome, as always. Thanks, man.
Same here. I love it when this channel educates me. Fantastic work as usual Fil.
I believe they were of the Blackfoot Tribe.

Sweet Lolly
@@lindaduke6751 Beautiful Lolly!! I fell in love with him!
I didn't finish that last thought. Like I said, I'm old. What I was trying to say is that when I was a kid I thought it was pretty cool that our Native American nextdoor neighbors had some fellow indigenous citizens with such a huge hit song. They couldn't play it enough!
One of my favorite 70's song!! A classic! ❤️
Fil!! A oldie but totally a good one I hear their influence in other bands..
Fil you a legend glad to know you
Thanks!
Thanks Fil, been waiting for this one!
PC ruins everything.
Check out the band Indignous.
Actually yes I can imagine more so now than ever before.😑😐 Believe me.
I love how a smile came to you're face as soon as the drummer hit those drums. ❤🤗
Yes, I was watching Fil's face at that time and I saw the same thing, lol! Butch was in a class by himself!
Very cool that these guys are proud of their heritage and mainstream audiences accepted it, that's what made the 70s great.
Thank you, as a Native musician song writer I appreciate your acknowledgement. I knew them, and performed with my group at concerts together with them.. Great group and purely down to earth.
What group?
@@novasantana297 Hello Nancy. Bim Bam was a fun band. Almost as fun as Redbone!...
I turned seventeen when this single was certified Gold by the RIAA on...drum roll please...22 April, 1974. And what day did you post this video reaction? 22 April, 2020. Great job! If it was unintentional...well, there are no accidents! Meant to be!
Come and Get Your Love, a forgotten gem on classic rock and oldie stations. great dance moves at the intro. I've never seen a bad performance on "The Midnight Special" excellent analysis on Redbone.
Buffy Saints Marie an Indigenous Canadian-American singer-songwriter, musician, Oscar-winning composer, visual artist, educator, pacifist, and social activist. is another one that got her start in the 1960's and still active. thanks Fil.

You're both wrong.....the answer is Billy Gibbons.
Rory Gallagher actually...
I love this song and performance It's Redbone in their prime Native Americans have brought so much to rock and pop music It would be cool if you covered Jesse Ed Davis and Blackfoot Thanks Fil😃💝\m/
I was just searching YT for a good live Jesse Ed Davis! Loved him. That solo in Jackson Browne's "Doctor My Eyes" gets me every time. I'll try for Blackfoot or with Taj Mahal.
@@lynndow3185 Jessie Ed Davis even jammmed with George Harrison in concert for Bangladesh.
@@rezkinginternational I didn't know that thanks ☺
And Link Wray too.
@@MsAppassionata Yes thank you ☺
Graduated high school this year, and I LOVED Redbone!! They could rock, they could harmonize and they could be funky.
Great groove band.
THANK YOU SOooooooo much for playing this song...........✌🏾👍👌🏽🤙🏾👊🏾🤘🏾
Great memories for us old folks
It sure is.
Amen I sit and play over and over.to old to do any more
A great analysis of such a universally loved song.
When I was 13, I won the come and get your love album at a music store when the song had just started to peak. I played the hll out of that Album. Rip guys.
Wow what a flashback moment!
A'ho, Fil, for this one. I loved them back in the day. Being of Cherokee, Comanche, Lakota ancestry I am so chuffed to see this being recognized. You rock, you really do!
All performances on midnight special were live. This is just another outstanding example
Such a lovely song that makes you want to dance!A time-less song,we will hear 20 years from now!Loving it!
Hi Fil! I love this song. Stay safe.✌🏼🎶 I've always thought they were underrated.
Just yet another fabulous genre of the musically rich 70's. We got spoiled.
Absolutely love the that this obscure brit breaks down one of the most iconic tunes of all time!
Think he appreciates your calling him "obscure"?!😃😆🤣
They should be recognized for all they are finally. Hugh, Hugh, talent never to be forgotten and of all times. Put there music on and love and peace will fill the world. Pure greatness!
I've always loved this song and this performance. It's been on my RUclips playlist for a long time. Thanks so much for featuring them Fil!!

I just recently read that Pat passed away 😢he will be missed but his music will live on for a very long time. Rest easy Pat❤
Not according to Wikipedia and his recent Insta post.
I was nine when this came out. It was all over the radio. Ah, the memories. Thank you, Fil. 🙂❤️
Wow. You really did your homework. Best song. I was 14 when the song came out and now I'm 61 and still loving it.
Ah yes, back to my teenage years. I think I saw this on The Midnight Special. Great demo on the licks Fil.
Listening to this again and really paying attention it’s so incredibly infectious.
Gonna show my age here Fil! Was a kid when song made it on charts and was played on KTAC 85 radio in Tacoma Washington. Never stopped liking the song or band! You give it a whole "new" dimension! Way past excellent anayses!
I remember my dad letting me stay up late to see other natives on tv. First time ever. I was enthralled. Still my original heroes.
It was so comical seeing them. I remember telling my freinds what’s this? Then they started singing,I said that’s them? I had a friend who was Choctaw she knew 😂
Golly, such a classic! Memories from my High School years! ☮️
One of my favorite songs ever
Mine too! So glad he covered this one. It's a delight!

Still love hearing Redbone!!!
Aww, so glad you did this one. Beautiful music, beautiful band.
Love this song. It's on my morning playlist.

Beautiful thank you for your kindness.
Just a heartbeat away. Blessings to you and your family . 😃
Try to attend a POW WOW if there are any near you. You saw some great fancy dancing here. It’s an unforgettable experience.
hello from Indianapolis, just subscribed and sent the video to my son in Florida. Turns out he's already a subscriber!
👍 thanks!
Great breakdown of this song Fil as always.
I've always loved that bass line.
considering that's tv audio, those vocals are pretty sweet, not to mention the whole band singing a GREAT song.
Thanks for covering this song Fil. This song makes me happy.
Phil is the pill to heal all your musical questions , & much much more .
Thanks!
I remember this song, back then.... such a happy song....you just feel better hearing it.
This was on the radio a lot when it came out but I had no idea they were aboriginal. That’s cool! They didn’t play that intro on the radio to my recollection.
It is really hard to feel bad when this song is playing and as always, great analysis.
Thank you for the history of Redbone, very appreciated
Great video, I studied this song a few years ago, and still learned something, I remember when this song came out...was a totally different world, and I miss it
Thanks for covering this. I’m 68 and love this.
'Cause you're fine, and you're mine, and you look so divine
I was in my senior year of high school when this song came out and haven't heard it in years. Thanks for the memories Fil and your professional analysis.
Love this song and just saw now, Apr. 27th , Monday good evening hope you well Fil. My mother loved this song too. And, me Being part Cherokee, this video, the native dance awesome, wonderful in the beginning, and your analysis and demonstration playing was fabulous and thank you Fil. Have a good week, and both Live streams I saw last week Tuesday and Saturday passed Fil were outstanding and uplifted my spirits. Stay healthy and Rock On......🤘🎸🍎🧸
...thanks, Fil...this is one of your best...we are unable to see and appreciate all of the there, there until you break it all down...thumbs up, bud
Cutter & Ms C
Native Americans are still pushed down. Redbone was an under appreciated, excellent Band. They deserve so much more. Thanks Fil for another smack on the nose analysis!
nobody is pushing them down - or you. lose the negative mind set, man
I've never seen this and I did not know they were native American(American Indian). I was an M.P. in the U,S. Army in Frankfort, Germany at that time so I never heard it live so you are correct it does sound almost identical to the recording.
I was a kis when this song came out and it was pretty big on top 40 radio at the time! Fil sure does a kickass ob of breaking it down!
That was a big song on the radio, very talented group, great analyses Fil, Jeff in LA USA
RIP Lolly ❤ Your Spirit lives on. This Song is Timeless
Always amazes me what you pull out of almost any song. I love Redbone...they have some great music on their records. Thanks for the video.
Really nice performance, never heard this song before :) thanks Fil :)
