The dance is Fancy dance in the Lakota tradition. The regalia is made especially for each dancer and is sacred to him. This one is the prairie chicken. There is also Eagle, Tatanka (buffalo), and other animal clans. Different regalia, different dancers. The fist was the symbol of A.I.M. The American Indian Movement.
Megwich! First Nation from Muscowpetung Saskatchewan. Thank you for adding the historical context. My brother's children are Lakota and I remember when my cousin came back to Saskatchewan from the U.S. in the early 70's fired up for A.I.M. It was a time of change! I was jam then and it's a jam now!
They say that everybody loves this song!!! They couldn't find any who hated it!!! That's saying something!!! I was 15 when this was popular!!! Memories!!! ❤
All the original members of Redbone were of Native American or Mexican American Heritage. This song was written by Lolly Vegas who, along with his brother Pat, were the first and longest standing members of Redbone. Lolly passed in 2010 and Pat disbanded the group BUT still technically has the rights to the group by being the only member... I love this song and remember the first time I saw this intro and how much it made me smile...lol Thank you for this one Bumblebee Whisperer! Amazing choice again!
Redbone - 18th century Creole chattle slavery. Light skinned. Mixed Race The bright colored dance costume is called Fancy dress. The stooped posture, circling and feather display are based on the male prairie chicken.
My late husband, Brien, was Native American, actually knew these guys a long time ago. Thanks for reminding me of them, DJ. His name was Brien Two Bears Holland.❤❤
I'm going to show my age here, but I actually saw this episode of Midnight Special. I was 11 years old, and had a huge crush on the bass player. Witch Queen Of New Orleans is another great song by them.
Please listen to more 70's bands. Black water by the Doobie Brothers, three dog night singing"Mama told me not to come". Those two bands are two of the best. I graduated in 1977. This granny is 65. I lived in the best times. Praying y'all's generation can learn from the mistakes made and we can have peace and love all over the world. Peace out. Grandma Shirley ❤❤❤
This was a favorite band for me back in the day.😅 Loved this song. I live about 15 miles from a reservation, and we love to go to their pow wows in August to watch the dancers. My favorite are the children. They are so talented, and the native clothing is beautiful.🥰
Midnight Special was must see TV. I remember rushing home every week to watch. The only time i wasnt a little late getting home for curfew. 12 midnight was curfew for everyone, we always thought all the mothers got together and agreed on a time. Thanks for bringing back some great memory's. There is only 2 of us left.
Hi there! I'm back again. If you want to react to something that will knock you out, look up C.W. McCall. He did a song called "Convoy" and one called " Wolf Creek Pass". They have to be heard to be believed.! Okay. I'm gone again!
so the correct term for the native American costume it's called Regalia. if you Google native American pow wow... you'll be able to see more of this and maybe receive some explanation and some instruction on what it's all about
I live in Arizona. The guy in the white is the leader, I don't remember his name. A lot of Native dances are supposed to mimic the native animals in their area. The guy in the black is wearing a turquoise necklace, that style is called a Squash Blossom. I'm not sure which tribe they are from. By the way, I'm a Pentatonix. Where did all of your PENTATONIX reactions go to? I need more, more, more!
I've been sitting here yelling at ya for 5:43 minutes to stop pausing and get to it! I've never seen your channel until right this minute, but this shouldn't be a 17 minute reaction. Stop with all the pausing -- unless that's what your subs like. Personally, it irritates me. No hate and good luck with your channel. I was just visiting.

Before they formed Redbone, Jimi Hendrix told them they should start an all Native American band. Jimi was part Cherokee.
Thanks!
Redbone! That's a blast from the past! I always loved their earlier song, "Witch Queen Of New Orleans".
Redbone simply the best. Mexican boys from Coalinga California. We had fun playing together as kids. 😊😊😊
