“Midnight Special” was great back in the day. Music acts often lip synced mostly due to being in a TV studio, Midnight Special shows almost always were live performances but it was broadcast very late at night, most often after Saturday Night Live
First time I heard this song was when it was featured in opening scene of the 2014 MCU film “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Because of the movie, I can’t listen to this song without dancing
Redbone is the only funk rock band made up of all Mexican & Native American heritage members. This was reflected in their songs, stage costumes & album art. "Come & Get Your Love" was their biggest hit in 1974. This song was used in the 2014 movie "Guardians Of The Galaxy". But they had some other songs such as "We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee", "The Witch Queen Of New Orleans", "Wovoka", "Maggie" etc.
This song was on the radio when it came out in 1974. It was on the Billboard charts for 18 weeks, and made it up to number 5. The Midnight Special was a really good show. The performances were always live (never synced), and it featured many of the latest and most popular performers. Also, the production values were high. Live performance videos can be iffy, but the ones from The Midnight Special are usually excellent.
“Come & Get Your Love” has been used often, one recent use was for the Netflix adult animation show, “F is For Family” about the childhood of comedian Bill Burr, the artist I support, Haley Reinhart, does the voice of the child version of Bill Burr…the show dealt with being a kid in the ‘70’s in a dysfunctional family and is pretty ’adult’ as well as funny had 5 seasons on Netflix
Redbone is from the city where I live in Fresno California. I went to high school in Selma a small town where I grew up about 20 miles from Fresno. Every Friday the school would let students who had instruments or a band come and play rock music. One Friday we were told we had a special guest coming to play and that band was Redbone. This was in 1972 just as the band was getting started and tis song was being played on the radio.along with another one of their songs The Witch Queen of New Orleans.
I know this song from hearing it on the radio as a child. I was 9 when it came out, so from then on, it was on the radio. And then Guardians came out and reintroduced it to the younger masses.
Another Native contributor to rock music is the band Blackfoot. Three of their original members decided to name the band because of their heritage. I suggest listening to either "Highway Song" or "Left Turn on a Red Light".
Burt Sugarmans Midnight Special is a video anthology of popular music of the time 1972-1981, and is a treasure, if you ever need music to react to just pick an episode and you'll find something Biss. One day if you're bored take a deep dive into this show, it's incredible. Keep up with your musical and cultural education, it's refreshing to see!
To me, this song is like Earth, Wind and Fires song, September. You can't not have a good time listening to it. It never gets old and is sure to bring a smile to your face.
"I think, I think you all should tell me where you heard this song from". Bisscute I can tell you that I first heard this song on the Navajo reservation. I am a Native American from the Navajo tribe, and I was born and raised on the Navajo reservation before leaving there permanently right before I started high school. This song was is one of the many songs that they played repeatedly on the local radio station out there and I hated it. Fast forward many years later, I go to the theater to watch Guardians Of The Galaxy and they had this song in the opening credit scene. Once I heard it I thought, "OMG, no". That movie made that song explode and now I've been hearing it on the internet just as much as I did back home on the Navajo reservation and I'm honestly tired of it. But if you enjoyed this song, then I'm happy for you. I like watching your reaction videos.
Yeah, I remember it being in the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" also. But I also remember hearing it on the radio when I was younger. I also remember seeing them perform live on TV. I love the part at the beginning also but worry that people reacting to it will think they have the wrong song and stop before the recognized part breaks in. The song has such a laid back cool groove to it.
I remember hearing this on AM radio back in 1974, when I was a kid, and I had an edited version of it on a K-Tel compilation album. Decades later, a co-worker played me the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack, which included this song. That whole soundtrack sounded like someone had gone through all my old K-Tel albums and picked the best songs off of them. I didn't even know the band was Native until I saw the Midnight Special clip on RUclips.
Biss, for more native American influence, check out "Paul Revere and the Raiders" "Indian Reservation" it tells the story of the Cherokee nation in a nutshell.
Great song. I'm old now but remember it from my younger days. I have forgotten so many gems over the years, so RUclips and reactors like yourself help bring back the memories of an era I sorely miss. Thankyou.😀
The name of the group in letters above the stage was a dead giveaway that this was on the TV show "The Midnight Special." Before MTV, this show was one of two ways to see music videos or live performances of groups.
Great song...I didn't know who did this song but now i do. Biss you always bring the FUN, the happyiness, the great expressions! What a great way to start the day...with a smile!!!♥♥♥
Awesome song! First time I heard it was Guardians of the Galaxy. I’ve listened to it a lot more since that movie. Great reaction Biss!! Congrats on 350k subscribers!! ❤🔥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Fun reaction, BissI I wish they 'd gotten a lot furthur than thier first big hit..But that's the problem with having such a big 1# debut..Ya get under pressure to make your next LP even bigger. Add that to the toughness/discipline needed to succeed combined with newfound fame, dealing with recording contracts, etc ..who knows? Funny thing, until us black people saw this broadcast, we thought they were soul brothers, too!
I'm into Oldies music so I'd known this song for years but I always thought this was a black group singing but turned out to be a Native-Mexican American band from California. You should hear the recorded version of this song, strings were added to it. 21 years later after its initial release in 1995, Eurodance Pop group The Real McCoy had a huge hit with this song that was played at clubs all across the world. The song hit Number 1 on the Dance Charts here in the US. Here are both versions: 1974 recorded version: ruclips.net/video/bc0KhhjJP98/видео.html 1995 Real McCoy version ruclips.net/video/-GBpa4GKhr0/видео.html
Nice reaction biss and I heard. This when it first came out. But I've never heard the live version, An American Indian band that's cool, your perrty smile, makes me smile, mis very cute . Have a good. One❤😊
Hello Bisscute. The first time I heard this charming song was on the radio, when it was released around 1974, shortly after I heard it on a cassette copy. Redbone was one of the first rock bands made up primarily of Native American musicians, giving them a special place in music history. His cultural heritage is reflected in his name, which means "person of mixed ancestry." This song, written by band members Lolly and Pat Vegas, has endured in popular culture in its own right, as it has an infectious rhythmic base. Its moderate tempo is ideal for dancing and reflects the influences of 70s funk. Despite its apparent simplicity, it conveys a positive message. Phrases like "What's the matter with your head?" They suggest letting go of worries and focusing on the happiness within your reach. And the call to "come and take your love" reinforces the idea that happiness and love are available to everyone, you just need to be willing to receive it. What a good choice Bisscute. My suggestion for a next reaction is to Barry White performing You're The First, The Last, My Everything. Greetings from Mexico City.
I went to one taping of "The Midnight Special" at NBC studios in Burbank, California, in 1978 (not this performance). We sat on the floor, so you really couldn't move much. The studio was not that big.I imagine the would use bigger studios for bigger artists.
My mom and dad used to play this when I was a kid, My dad was Navajo and Lipan Apache, and my mom was Cherokee. When I went to elementary school, kids used to make fun of me cause of my parents, they were Native Americans…and they would pat there mouths, and make noises, and call me names…but I didn’t care..i got into a lot of fights, I had to go to 4 different elementary schools lol…but we did love this band growing up as kids.
Another great band from the 70s is Blackfoot. Three of their members were Native American. A couple of their biggest hits are Train, Train and Highway Song which is my favourite of theirs.
Being a teenager in the 1970s, it was an amazing time to enjoy a wide variety of music. There were 2 shows shown weekly, "The Midnight Special" and "Don Kirshner's 'Rock Concert;" which featured live performances of music. In Kansas City, anyone who loved music left parties and got home before 11:30pm on Friday (Midnight Special) and Saturday (Rock Concert) just to watch the live acts. For the most parts, these were all live performances. I remember when Todd Rundgren performed on Midnight Special, and they announced that Todd would be performing live to his own backing track. They really wanted to audience to see live performances back then! This was more than a decade before MTV came around... Anyone else remember Wolfman Jack as host, and Gary Muledear on Midnight Special?
its a very happy song, i like it and your reaction bisscute! thanx! i recommend a song to react from richard marx "angelia" it has a saxophone solo in this song. have a great day and always good vibes.

Ukuiq is a beautiful song and the video show ocean and land of the north. The song Northern Lights is basically the English version.
Great reaction Biss❤ most of the time reactors show this live video but is dubbed with the studio version... Glad you found the original live version to react to. Those of us of a certain age love this song especially when we have roots as Native Americans. Mine are Yaqui from Northern Mexico.😊
Even if a band/artist is not Native themselves, the Native sounds and cultural elements are amazing. There's something about them. W.A.S.P. has a couple of songs that have that vibe - one being Widowmaker, but especially Trail Of Tears which is about that historical march of entire tribes forced to march in exile and suffer the trials and tribulations - and the tragedies - of that march.
tiktok recycles lots of old song so those 15 seconds makes you feel ,, familiar ,, its normal i guess I could not say anything I guess and just pretend stupid I guess you wont like that too much no?
@@BisscuteReacts I think a lot of younger generations would have a greater appreciation for "old" music if they realized that so many of those "15 seconds" they know & love are actually from "old" music they have never heard of.
Hey Biss, you're looking very tropical today. 🔥 Another great song and great reaction. (We need more dancing though) These older songs always remind me of my parents. 👍 As always, BIG HUGS and much❤from America!
With Halloween coming at the end of the month, I'd like to recommend a Spanish pagan folk band called Trobar de Morte. The band plays a lot of occult themed music. There two songs in particular, "Bathory" performed in Latin and "Sacrifice" performed in backwards Spanish, which be very holiday-appropriate.
Great swamp rock band. Great tune! Remember it in my youth. If you are doing Halloween songs in the near future, checkout Redbone's "Witch Queen of New Orleans"😎
I had gotten out of the Marines in 1972 and was in College when this came out in 1974 ,Loved it then and still do.

The word you’re looking for is “earworm”, a tune that sticks in your head repeatedly.
A summer afternoon/evening cruisin' song. Good memories, thank you.

But when you do, please do The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over Tour" song "Hotel California" it's a different version. The Beatles "Elenor Rigby". Thank You in advance from my ❤.
