Absolutely. 100%. Fully agreed. Still one of the best rock songs ever. Very unique structure. Should be in anyone’s workout mix. It gets the heart pumping!
On the last extended scream (before the last chorus), Brad Delp reaches a note that most musicians agree is almost superhuman for a person with his range and tone. I've heard two pro singers say that they simply can't understand how he was able to hit it. Whatever the case, "More Than A Feeling" is one of the most iconic rock songs ever written; it gets played everywhere to this day and I wouldn't be surprised if it was still in heavy rotation a hundred years from now. It is not one of my favorite songs but it is definitely the epitome of an anthemic 70s guitar-driven pop song, and in that sense it is indeed perfect.
I had the privilege of seeing Boston a year before Brad's passing, in Phoenix. At that show, Brad held that final note for well over 30 seconds. I think he was 55 years old at the time, and he still had amazing power in his voice. Amazing band! Amazing vocalist! Rest in peace Brad.
Boston has some of the best rock songs of the late 70s through early/mid 80s. It still is awesome how most of their first album was created in a basement! Evidence of pure talent.

I totally agree with you and find myself as they (and They meaning they all seem to do it) stop the song at the first set of high notes he hits, screaming at the computer " You haven't heard anything yet!" LOL
You know, I've never heard anyone say a bad word about this song. It just invites you in with a big friendly smile, and it's glorious. Brad Delp was the lead singer. Amazing voice. Sadly, he suffered from depression, and in 2007 he took his own life. Such a loss. Another thing: everyone who knew him said he was a great person: friendly, kind, gentle, down to earth, a regular guy and a great neighbor (for example, he helped people mow their lawns). When he died, the band's website said "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."
It's hard to relate in modern terms how massive an impact this album had when it came out. It dominated everything, every song was a hit, every song is a masterpiece, every guitar player had to figure out this unique sound. I think even today it's still the 5th highest selling debut ever. When Boston released their third album Third Stage, they sold out Boston Garden 17 consecutive days (and I went to one of those shows!). And the craziest thing is this is just basically one guy and a (fantastic) singer and a couple of drummers. Tom Scholtz wrote the songs, played all the instruments except drums, produced and engineered it, and built all the crazy unique sounding effects used on this album, because he was an MIT degreed electrical engineer in his spare time. He took the Boston sound and built a music tech company from it called Rocktron, where he made some of the best sounding pro musicians gear around for a long time. He is a certifiable genius who changed music forever and expanded the horizons of what rock music could be. And they are still out there doing it, despite the singer Brad Delp's sad passing a while ago.

One of the best debut albums ever. That is especially true when you consider that almost all of it was recorded in Tom Sholtz's basement in the 1970s. He wrote almost all of the songs and played guitar, keyboards and bass. It was an unbelievable achievement.
In September 1977 I was a freshman in college. The student dormitories were built around courtyards. It was the inescapable background music to everything happening on campus. I met a girl that September, and almost 50 years later when I hear More Than a Feeling, I still recall how I closed my eyes and she slipped away. A perfect song indeed.
Brad Delp has always been underrated. He had two traits that makes him “Singular” among the greatest vocalists of all time. 1. His range was G# 2 to E flat 6. And he could use that full range without diminishing power or losing tone. 2. Remember, in 1976 there was NO Autotune. It was never confirmed, but many who worked with him claimed he had “Perfect Pitch”. One of the Greatest Rock Singers Of All Time.

Tom Scholz is the genius guitarist (he was an MIT grad) behind Boston. Wrote all the songs. Then, in his basement studio, recorded all the music - playing all the instruments, except the drums. Only other person on that original album is the singer Brad Delp. Delp sung all the singing parts - harmonizing with himself. Scholz designed special electronics for the music, too.
@conureron3792 Not quite. As documented in the liner notes of every copy of this record that has been sold. Brad wrote Let Me Take You Home and he co wrote Smokin'. All of Brads vocals were recorded in big name LA studios not Tom home studio. The liner notes in every copy of this record that has been sold make very clear that there are two drummers who play on this record--Sib and Jim Masdea. Masdea only plays drums on one song. Counting the 2 drummers there are 5 musicians who play at least one instrumental track on this record. Barry plays on three songs, Fran plays on two songs. Brad plays on one song. What specific special electronics did Tom design to record this record?
Late 70's is when this song/album came out.... saw them at a college before they became a big name.... RIP Brad Delp Tom Sholz (primary guitarist, keyboardist and only remaining original member of the rock band Boston) was a MIT Engineer graduate and did all his recording in what was first know as basement tape/recording. If you Google Tom Sholtz house where recording took place.. you get a tour.
You are not far off on the year; this song was released in 1976. As a band Boston has only released 6 studio albums, "Boston" (where this song comes from) in 1976, "Don't Look Back in 1978, then taking 8 years to release their third album "Third Stage" in 1986, 8 more years to release "Walk On" in 1994, 8 more years for "Corporate America" in 2002, and in 2013 they released "Life, Hope, & Love." Not an extensive catalogue but a great one.
You really need to listen to this album. Literally every song on this, their debut album, is a great song. That’s not even remotely an exaggeration. It is probably the best debut album by any band ever
(2:53) 😂I feel the same way when the singer keeps going higher and higher. I've heard the song hundreds of times and it still surprises me when I think the phrase is done, and he just keeps going! And, yes, "Hold your horses!!!). Biss is running the show here.
The entire first record is pretty much perfect for all the reasons you talked about. This, and other songs from it, where all over American radio well into the 80's, so it's hard for me to get my head around the idea that people have never heard it. You heard it everywhere.
For me, this is the best rock song of all time. After thouands of plays over many years, it still moves me and makes me feel happy and pumped at the same time. Everything. It is the perfect song. And I agree with others, the album is perfect too. Pretty much any Boston song is fire.
I agree with you 100%.. There are no SINGER's today. It is all marketing and media push. Through the 80's and early 90's we still had "Singer's". We need that again. With feeling, passion and soul in it rather than a paycheck. Oh and concert ticket's under $40

I bought this album back when it came out in the summer of 1976, I had just graduated from high school and trying to work full-time. Great album. Pick any song off this album, you can't go wrong. 48 years ago we didn't know how good we had it, we do now. 😁 Look for their concert at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ back in 1978 or 1979. The video is kinda crappy but the sound isn't that bad.
Biss, the lead singer's name is Brad Delp (R.I.P.). The audio is a radio edit of the studio recording. Delp sang all of the vocals you heard (lead AND harmonies); the band was lip-syncing in the video. Unfortunately, there isn't much footage of Boston's live shows and most of what does exist has pretty poor sound quality. I recommend that you stick to the album versions of their music, because it's fantastic!
When you look up all the lists of "Most Overplayed Rock Songs by U.S. Radio Stations", you will find this song near the top! 😆 Classic rock stations still play it all the time, and it's been almost 50 years since it was released!
This video is a live tour performance synced to an edited version (omits the second verse) of the album track. With regard to the people in this video, every instrument except drums on this track was played by the lead guitarist (Tom Scholz, the only one without facial hair), the drums by Sib Hashian (seen in the video), and all of the vocals (lead and harmony) by Brad Delp, the singer shown here. It should be a crime that Delp isn't on every "Top 10 Rock Vocalist" list.
Ah, the glory days of my youth.... where you would hear songs like this BLARING FROM SPEAKERS EVERY DAY. Either in the car with mom and dad, at the skating rink, a friend's house, or in the backyard while playing with friends and the radio being on. You know, there IS something to be said about growing up during the 70's that just can't be repeated... the sheer number of TALENTED artists AT THEIR PEAK performing everywhere you turned. Because today, sadly, the industry seems to be TOO focused on "manufacturing" entertainment than anything else.
I grew up in the 70's too and it was a magical time to grow up. The music was top notch. My older brother loved Boston, BTO, Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night. I was a big younger and I grew up loving the Eagles, Bob Seger and others from that era.
This album is an absolute masterpiece and every song on it is amazing! I would recommend doing the whole album, but if you don't want to do that, Foreplay/Longtime should be next.
This was one of the top selling debut rock releases of all time for quite some time. Every song on this is reaction worthy, "Peace Of Mind", "Foreplay/Long Time", "Rock And Roll Band", Hitch A Ride" and "Smoking'". And that is just the first album!!! 🔥

This album was released in 1976, and was a huge success! The whole album is a masterpiece! Rip🙏 Brad Delp and Sib Hashian! Your music will live on forever in our hearts!👌😎👍
The song Amanda!!
This was their first studio album. Every song on that album is amazing.
Boston one of the greatest rock bands in the history of music. Top 3 for sure.
Every song on that album was epic. Sooo goood.
Late 70's is when this song/album came out.... saw them at a college before they became a big name.... RIP Brad Delp
Tom Sholz (primary guitarist, keyboardist and only remaining original member of the rock band Boston) was a MIT Engineer graduate and did all his recording in what was first know as basement tape/recording. If you Google Tom Sholtz house where recording took place.. you get a tour.
Barry Goudreau is still alive
Mid 70's.The album was released in 1976.
@@GeraldWalling 76 is mid or late... its over 5...
No one could ever cover this song...EVER! They would have to be insane to even try. So bloody glad I grew up during this era.
Even Brad had trouble sometimes.
There is a band that has! Can't remember their name but they got a lot of faithful covers on RUclips ...
check out The Hindley Street Country Club version. An Aussie covers band. Not quite Brad Delp, but damn close
@@4bnewb969 That's them! That's the band! :D
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Ahh, did Brad have his way with you and now your sore about it?
The entire first record is pretty much perfect for all the reasons you talked about. This, and other songs from it, where all over American radio well into the 80's, so it's hard for me to get my head around the idea that people have never heard it. You heard it everywhere.
THIS WAS THE FIRST ALBUM I EVER BOUGHT WITH MY OWN MONEY!!!!
Same 😁
This has to be one of the songs played the most times ever on American radio. Maybe THE most. My guess is either this or Zep's 'Stairway to Heaven'.
You need to listen to the entire album...
And check out their album art.
@@keithdean9149 I still have the original album and slip cover.
Yeah on this album every song on it got airplay
Now you have to do foreplay/longtime. This whole album is beyond amazing!
For me, this is the best rock song of all time. After thouands of plays over many years, it still moves me and makes me feel happy and pumped at the same time. Everything. It is the perfect song. And I agree with others, the album is perfect too. Pretty much any Boston song is fire.
One of the greatest songs of all time, period.
One of two I'd choose for being stranded on a desert island. The greatest debut ever.
Hello Biss, Boston 👏🏿👏🏿thank you.
And those famous guitars
More of Boston, please.
One of the best songs ever. Best albums ever
I agree with you 100%.. There are no SINGER's today. It is all marketing and media push. Through the 80's and early 90's we still had "Singer's". We need that again. With feeling, passion and soul in it rather than a paycheck. Oh and concert ticket's under $40
You've apparently never heard Floor Jansen
She's not Rock, but I appreciate ANGELINA JORDAN (from Norway, Living in Los Angeles) --- ANGELINA JORDAN Sings -- (shorter list of 100 videos in YEAR Order)

My all time favorite band. RIP Brad. Tom Scholz you are an underrated legend
I bought this album back when it came out in the summer of 1976, I had just graduated from high school and trying to work full-time. Great album.
Pick any song off this album, you can't go wrong. 48 years ago we didn't know how good we had it, we do now. 😁
Look for their concert at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ back in 1978 or 1979. The video is kinda crappy but the sound isn't that bad.
Damn straight its a perfect song!
“Amanda” is my favorite Boston song
Biss, the lead singer's name is Brad Delp (R.I.P.). The audio is a radio edit of the studio recording. Delp sang all of the vocals you heard (lead AND harmonies); the band was lip-syncing in the video. Unfortunately, there isn't much footage of Boston's live shows and most of what does exist has pretty poor sound quality. I recommend that you stick to the album versions of their music, because it's fantastic!
When you look up all the lists of "Most Overplayed Rock Songs by U.S. Radio Stations", you will find this song near the top! 😆
Classic rock stations still play it all the time, and it's been almost 50 years since it was released!
The best debut album ever. Remember when this came out and was blown away.
You are listening to one of the absolute greatest bands of all time.
First time I heard this song in 2006 when I played guitar hero in playstation 2😁
I grew up in Boston Massachusetts
USA .. Got to see the band play in small bars before they made it big.
Music More than perfect !!!
Very well said.... From Boston born in 1970... What a special time... I thought it was always going to be that way...
R.I.P. Master Delp. Music will never forget you.
You are correct! It is a perfect song. ❤
This album is an absolute masterpiece and every song on it is amazing! I would recommend doing the whole album, but if you don't want to do that, Foreplay/Longtime should be next.
The 70's were a really special decade in music! She gets it!
No auto tune...no more words!!! Good react again Kitsune. See you! 🤟🦊🇯🇵🔥🔥🔥🔥
This was one of the top selling debut rock releases of all time for quite some time. Every song on this is reaction worthy, "Peace Of Mind", "Foreplay/Long Time", "Rock And Roll Band", Hitch A Ride" and "Smoking'". And that is just the first album!!! 🔥
To echo that my personal favorite is the second to last song "Something About You," just a 4 minute, made-for-FM-radio banger. Best song off the album IMHO.
@@Lippett Absolutely! The whole album is priceless!
You are absolutely correct. This is a perfect song. It is my favorite song of all time since I heard it for the first time in August of 1976.
It is a perfect song, you'll listen to it for the rest of your life - timeless!
Just when you think Brad couldn’t take it higher, he blows your mind and turns it up to eleven!
This came out of nowhere in 1976, prior was music like Foghat, Stones etc, kinda bluesey stuff
Welcome to the world of Boston, pure mastery of Hard Rock
No auto tune kids, just talent.
I've heard that song live. That wasn't any tricks, that dude could really hit those notes live.
She’s really going to love this band!
