Boston's debut album is without question the greatest debut in music history. Every single song is phenomenal ! Give "peace of mind" a listen. The lyrics are timeless.
@@BisscuteReacts Indeed 🤗, a pretty good Live version, but I hope you re-visit the Studio Version ( better sounding ) of this song too when you have the chance 👍
Tom Sholtz, initially on the keyboards, was BOSTON (except for Delp on vocals) until they were live. An engineer by trade, he developed the tech that gave them their sound. Foreplay/Long Time played together are 2 songs. The entire album rocks.
Saw these guys live in the 90s Seattle for the Third Stage tour, one of the best concerts Id ever heard. Brad was still singing with them, What a show!!
Great reaction. The guitarist that changed with the organ player is Tom Scholz. With Brad Delp the singer they are Boston. Sib the drummer was added before the album was released and redid the drums. So the album this song is from was recorded in Tom's basement, he was the composer, writer, arranger, sound engineer and producer for the album using equipment, he borrowed, bought used or invented. Tom is an MIT engineer and worked for a major corporation at the time this album was released. Tom played acoustic guitar, 12 string acoustic guitar, electric rhythm guitar, electric lead guitar, electric bass guitar and organ on this album. Brad Delp sang lead vocals, background vocals, harmonies and layered his voice. Sib played drums. The only people signed to a record contract originally were Tom and Brad. The corporation that signed them demanded they hire a bunch of musicians and prove they could play the music live. Tom is quite literally a genius and Brad is one of the best male Rock vocalists of all time. The other played amazing live. But Tom's playing and arrangements for this album were amazing. Every song on this album is great or better. Some are Rock legends. This song is one of those. 'More Than a Feeling' song 1 side 1; 'Peace of Mind' Song 2 Side 1; and 'Foreplay; Longtime' Song 3 Side 1 are the first three songs anybody ever heard from them and it was their best work. They equaled those songs a few times but never did better. You can't go wrong reacting to a Boston song from the first album Chris
@chrisbricky7331 Not quite. As has been documented in the liner notes of every copy of this record that has been sold, Jim Masdea plays drums on Rock and Roll Band. Sib plays drums on all of the other songs. All electric rhythm guitars on Foreplay and Long Time were played by Barry in the studio. The big power chords in Long Time are Barry as well. Barry plays all of the lead guitar solos on Long Time as well. Fran is playing bass on Foreplay as well. This is all documented as fact in sworn legal documents that were a part of the Scholz vs Goodreau law suit. The band as pictured on the back of the record recorded 3 songs at The Record Plant LA but only Let Me Take You Home which was written by Brad made it to the record.
I was at this show in Giants Stadium in June 1979 . It was my 20th Birthday celebration with my gang of concert goers . It had poured earlier in the day . A Lot of the crowd had started to leave during Boston's set , the rain had really taken a toll on the audience . One of the most amazing things of the day though was when The Outlaws , who were on before Boston , started their epic set ending song "Green Grass & High Tides Forever" , the rain stopped & the sun came out . 🙂
I was there too. My friends and I were up in the upper deck and got soaked during the rain storm, but being 21 (I was the oldest) we just reveled in the rain. Besides, if I remember correctly, it had been a hot sunny day. We stuck it out for all four acts that day and had a great time.
I've always wondered. Was this like a summer jam sort of thing with a bunch of bands or what? Other than the Outlaws, who you mentioned, who else played at this show?
@@lawrencewestby9229 WOW! That's a helluva a concert. I first saw Boston on June 20th 1987. I had just graduated, so it was my present to myself. It was the first show Boston had done in about 7 or 8 years. I still have my T-shirt that says "Launch of 3rd stage". Unforgettable. Thank you!

From someone who was at many of these concerts back then, and someone who builds concerts today, the difference in quality isn't valued in the right sense IMHO. Back then, each show was its own moment, and those who experienced it, the greatness and the flaws, knew it wasn't a moment that was going to be felt anywhere else. When a fan seen a show in one town, it had its own character to include what the band did differently to address the hopes they had for the evening as well as the experience of the show they did a few nights before. This gave a flavor that became the collectible aspect of each show. Today, the shows are pretty much the same, with little alteration for there is no demand for it to be different than it was in the last venue other than structural, like maybe a 60' video wall backline rather than an 80' one from the larger venue a week prior...or maybe the catwalk is chopped to 40' instead of 100'...the audio engineers have a single goal, to match their baseline sound in every venue, and that is their work to make it so...failings or success almost always comes down to a sensor reading micro differences and only they know how perfect or not that they were able to obtain as it isn't usually noticeable by the audience. There is something to be said about making it be the same everywhere...after all McDonald's made a fortune off that premise...but in art, there is a value to the uniqueness of it, and it can't be unique to the fans if they can't tell the differences between one venue or another outside of the physical structural aspects. The two most famous bands to make the differences be the collectible the most was probably Led Zeppelin and Grateful Dead. When you hear today someone call out to a specific concert, like Led Zeppelin at Maddison Square Garden in '77 or Grateful Dead Cow Palace '76, you're not just getting reference of a band and a place, but also the wonder that happened that night, like the Dead playing a New Year's Eve show and the immediate awe of just what that meant...You don't get that today because there isn't any difference between Taylor Swift in Omaha vs Taylor Swift in Tampa Bay, as both had nearly identical shows. Led Zeppelin didn't continue after John Bonham died, not because no one else could replicate the drum section of the songs they would play, but because no one could evolve the music each night at a level that would match the other band members alterations and get the quality end result that they held as their standard requirement to feel good about the show. I am paraphrasing Jimmy Page's words in describing the reasoning, but that is the essence of what he said. Imagine what that means to have their shows so different from the studio source that it evolves on the road into many many different versions and takes, and to the fans at that show, they got to experience that version, while at a different show, a completely different version, often with different tempos, accents, almost genre-bending alterations.
I really enjoyed hearing this live version.I’ve heard the studio version at least 10 thousand times, and it’s great every time, but it’s really cool to hear a live version, even if the recording is rough.
I AGREE , IF IT WAS THE COLOR VERSION BY ITSELF , IT'S PRETTY GOOD ! BUT WHEN THEY'RE COMBINING BOTH VERSIONS , IT DOESN'T SOUND VERY GOOD ! SHE'D BE BETTER OFF LISTENING TO THE ALBUM VERSION ! AT LEAST IT WOULD SOUND RIGHT !
Boston's first album "Boston" is a masterpiece of Rock and is one of the highest selling albums of all time. Further, the guy playing keyboards in Foreplay is Tom Scholz. He wrote almost all of the music and played the guitar, bass and keyboards for the demos in his own home studio at the time. And oh yeah, he's an MIT-trained engineer. And you're right, this is not a good recording. You might want to do a studio album review of all of the songs from the beginning to end. Every song is a banger and you will not be disappointed.
Tom Scholz I believe is the first keyboard player then transfers to guitar was the bands founder, you should look him up he has an incredible story. He is an engineer and invented some of the equipment used to make sounds seem to go on forever. There are interviews with him explaining how did it . he even played all the instruments and recorded and put it together for the band to here before the actual recording
Boston was a revolutionary band that featured Singer Brad Delp, and Tom Soholtz Along with the rest of the band produced some of the finest music of their time period. Their debut album could be described as a persfect an album that had great hit songs with no mediocre ones. Great reaction as always Bisscute and your interaction with the music shows your appreciation for music of all genres and time periods.
I have been listening to Boston since they first came out. Loved them the minute I heard them. Bought every one of their albums. They don't have one bad song. Every one is a banger. Thank you for the memories. Love you❤❤❤. KEEP ROCKIN'!!!
@BisscuteReacts I want to thank you for replying to me. I truly enjoy your reactions. You have a sweet heart and soul. I admire you and I thank you for all the memories you bring to me. Keep rockin'. Your biggest fan here.
One cool thing about this live version is that we get to see Barry Goudreau playing the lead guitar parts since he doesn't get the credit for his abilities because Tom Scholz is such a master guitarist with his unique "Boston" sound. But yes, you definitely need to listen to the studio version. The sound / audio quality so much better, plus we also get acoustic guitar mixed in.
Barry played the lead guitar solos found in Long Time on the record. The guitar parts for Foreplay and Long Time are Barry and that is why he plays them as though it was second nature.
It is technically 2 songs, but it is really one song with an intro segment. Inseparable. Much like "Fly Like an Eagle' by Steve Miller Band which has an intro called 'Space'. That is a song/band you should react to by the way....
Summer '77' Southern Cal cruising home from an all dayer at the beach, surf boards on the rooftop and Boston is thumping the 8 track cruising home to see my girlfriend who became my wife . Man these were great times.
So, like I mentioned before, this was basically Tom Scholz' band. He basically wrote and recorded most of the songs on his own, and I think, except for the drums, probably played most of the parts when recording. I guess he just wanted to play the organ part of "Foreplay" himself, and then had to switch out when his guitar part came up. That was him. That whole first album is great, but the next big hit from it is "Peace Of Mind". Then, "Don't Look Back" is the big hit they had from their second album.
If its the 60's and 70's it was DEFINITELY at least partly substances. A number of those bands were actually quite political, it just doesn't seem that way in hindsight. Love this song and the reaction!
Tom Scholz originally on keyboard, needed to switch to guitar for the special effects, as he's the only person in the world that can do that. On the album version they switch to accoustic guitar during the chorus, which is much more dramatic. Also Brad Delp is layered, harmonizing with himself. Strongly recommend the album version. BTW, the first album taken 6 years to produce, no shortcuts taken, and to Tom Scholz, a studio would have been a shortcut. He even said their label's studio was inferior to his basement studio.
@delscoville This record was recorded starting early 1975 and it was released in Aug 1976. I call BS-Capital Studios Studio C (Quad Eight Console) where Brads vocals were recorded was far superior to Toms home studio. In addition, Westlake Studios (API console) where this record was mixed was far superior to Toms home studio in every aspect
great song, never saw this video and thank you for showing it. funny thing about technology its always advancing, for example the the guitarist invented a device called a rockman, this device allowed his guitar to make sounds no one else could and that with their increadable music and lyrics shot them to the top
Great band and choice Loved your reaction as usual Miss Bisscute💓💓💓thanks. reactions to live performances are your best. Please react to the songs: in your eyes and shaking the tree from Peter Gabriel secret world live tour you will love it.
Unfortunately, I missed this concert. I was out of town at the time. Giants Stadium is about an hour from where I live. Also, the Brendan Byrne Arena is right next door, where I saw Journey twice, the 2nd time with Bryan Adams, Billy Squire the 1st time, and Styx the 2nd time. Pick any song from this concert. At this point, they had two albums out. Just think, those two girls dancing around are now probably grandmother's. 😂
This is actually an excellent version as they are Rare to see live in concert at anytime. Tom Sholtz claimed he did all the parts on the album and the original members didn’t get a fair share of the money and had to sue for royalties. As you can see from the video , you can see the band members actually sound just like the album version.
If I was compiling a short list of songs to introduce someone to the best of rock music, this would be in it. (But the studio version, which I'd say is much better.) The guy playing the keys at the beginning is the composer, who also played all the instruments for the recording. So for the recording, it was just him and the singer, if I have the story right.
In 1979, when this was recorded, there was no internet and computers were so huge that you had to build an entire building around them. My college had one of those giant mainframes in the basement of one of their buildings and converted the former computer room to several classrooms in the 1990's.

Glad to hear that
Do you imagine Boston a ther prime performer in 2024 the crowd will go crazy, by the way the debut album was sold at 50 million copy it's a record 😎👍👍
this is not the good version to watch. amateur stitched together from multiple sources. VERY bad sound quality. 😔
Yep. Boston deserves better than this.
@@donaldvanderlinden1245 right!
why do this? hard to ruin such a great song though... but they try pretty hard god that's horrible sound
@@angelaspanger no idea. Drugs?
Boston's first album "Boston" is a masterpiece of Rock and is one of the highest selling albums of all time. Further, the guy playing keyboards in Foreplay is Tom Scholz. He wrote almost all of the music and played the guitar, bass and keyboards for the demos in his own home studio at the time. And oh yeah, he's an MIT-trained engineer. And you're right, this is not a good recording. You might want to do a studio album review of all of the songs from the beginning to end. Every song is a banger and you will not be disappointed.
Great seeing this LIVE! 1976, college dorm music. The entire BOSTON LP is a must! Tom Scholz.
That drummer is The Rock's father in law.
*was. RIP Sib. 🤘
Hello Biss, awesome Boston 🤩😎thank you.
Thank you
I saw them live in 1978. It was my first concert and it was great!
Lucky you
this is an absolute master piece...excellent choice🤘🤘🤘
Thank you
Real MUsic...REAL Talent....... LEGENDS, ALL....!
Exactly
This is a good live version. I grew up with them and I know... pretty good.
Thanks for playing this video- never saw them perform this live. Much better than I thought it would be- awesome intro.
Thank you
This is my favorite band of all time. And I live near Boston lol. 😁
Beautiful band. Nice reaction Biss. Grazie
Thank you
I had never seen this performance before. I like the sound of the bass in it. It sounded like someone plucking a 100 ft long rubber band
Just watch his smile. how is this not perfect.
Great band saw them in 79! Thanks
I have been listening to Boston since they first came out. Loved them the minute I heard them. Bought every one of their albums. They don't have one bad song. Every one is a banger. Thank you for the memories. Love you❤❤❤. KEEP ROCKIN'!!!
Thank you
@BisscuteReacts I want to thank you for replying to me. I truly enjoy your reactions. You have a sweet heart and soul. I admire you and I thank you for all the memories you bring to me. Keep rockin'. Your biggest fan here.
Barry Goudreau shredding on the guitar!🔥🔥🎸🎸
One cool thing about this live version is that we get to see Barry Goudreau playing the lead guitar parts since he doesn't get the credit for his abilities because Tom Scholz is such a master guitarist with his unique "Boston" sound. But yes, you definitely need to listen to the studio version. The sound / audio quality so much better, plus we also get acoustic guitar mixed in.
Barry played the lead guitar solos found in Long Time on the record. The guitar parts for Foreplay and Long Time are Barry and that is why he plays them as though it was second nature.
@@neechee5150 That's exactly the point I was trying to make; letting people know that it was Barry since most people assumed it was Tom. 👍
@@RonaldCanfield-m2r Kudos to you. You are correct-too many people assume Tom played all the guitar parts. Glad to see someone giving Barry credit.
It is technically 2 songs, but it is really one song with an intro segment. Inseparable. Much like "Fly Like an Eagle' by Steve Miller Band which has an intro called 'Space'. That is a song/band you should react to by the way....
I hope you could hear it better than we could because it's a great song!
Yes it is a great song
Boston is rock and roll, Delp was a god who is missed.
Summer '77' Southern Cal cruising home from an all dayer at the beach, surf boards on the rooftop and Boston is thumping the 8 track cruising home to see my girlfriend who became my wife . Man these were great times.
thanks for reaction
So, like I mentioned before, this was basically Tom Scholz' band. He basically wrote and recorded most of the songs on his own, and I think, except for the drums, probably played most of the parts when recording. I guess he just wanted to play the organ part of "Foreplay" himself, and then had to switch out when his guitar part came up. That was him.
That whole first album is great, but the next big hit from it is "Peace Of Mind". Then, "Don't Look Back" is the big hit they had from their second album.
Recording a demo, yes. He hired a drummer as I recall to do the drums. Then it was recorded again to make the album after being signed.
Firehouse live in Japan Home is where the heart is great vocals. Good morning from Iowa
I saw them in '78 and they are still among the top best shows I've seen and I have seen some legends in rock history .
In addition, Westlake Studios (API console) where this record was mixed was far superior to Toms home studio in every aspect
great song, never saw this video and thank you for showing it.
funny thing about technology its always advancing, for example the the guitarist invented a device called a rockman,
this device allowed his guitar to make sounds no one else could and that with their increadable music and lyrics shot them to the top
Exactly u are absolutely right perfect
Great band and choice Loved your reaction as usual Miss Bisscute💓💓💓thanks. reactions to live performances are your best. Please react to the songs: in your eyes and shaking the tree from Peter Gabriel secret world live tour you will love it.
Thank you so much
Хорошо! И послушали, и потанцевали! Спасибо ведущей за сердечный комментарий!❤
As I recall, the keyboardist Tom Sholtz has a Master's Degree from M.I.T. which is probably part of the reason the sound is so awesome.
I love ❤️ your reactions. You are an angel 😇
Thank you so much
Yay!
Some fun trivia: The daughter of late Boston drummer Sib Hashian is married to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
(But the studio version, which I'd say is much better.)
The guy playing the keys at the beginning is the composer, who also played all the instruments for the recording. So for the recording, it was just him and the singer, if I have the story right.
There were no phones and people dance, talked and laughed and had a good time together back then
True
In 1979, when this was recorded, there was no internet and computers were so huge that you had to build an entire building around them. My college had one of those giant mainframes in the basement of one of their buildings and converted the former computer room to several classrooms in the 1990's.
well, no. In '79 there were personal computers and mini-computers. Even MUD1 came out in '79. A Multi-User Domain (or Dungeon)
@@Marcus-p5i5s Let us presume for a second that you had lived in that era, you would have found that the devices you named were so expensive that they were only for people with LOTS of disposable income. So, the devices existed, but more than 99% of the public did not own them.
@@Marcus-p5i5s Because you most likely didn't live in 1979, what you don't know is that the cost of the devices you named were only for people with A LOT of disposable income and therefore over 99% of the public didn't have those items.
@@The_Dudester I was a programmer in '79. WTF are you babbling on about? Straw man much? I said PC's existed in '79. They DID, SEVERAL brands. MANY middle class homes had them. MANY! So what ARE you babbling on about?
@@Marcus-p5i5s Many? As in the majority? Of the rich perhaps, but NOT middle class, I assure you, because I lived through those times and my family was middle class.
Blue October “Bleed Out” written from his wife’s point of view and how he hurt her deeply. Very touching song, well written! Great reviews Biss, you do a great job!
Thank you
Smoking is their biggest hit and biss nation says you rock❤😮😊

Thank you
BEST DEBUT ALBUM EVER!!!!
9 years before I was born. Incredible. I love this song lol
It is a great song
I'm amazed that there are that many empty seats. Amazing band that was way before their time.
Love your top with the heart in it
The title to this song is every girls dream 😉🤣
Cheers miss bisscute 🦘🇦🇺👍

BOSTON suggestions: "Smokin'", "Hitch a Ride", "A Man I'll Never Be", and *studio version* of "Foreplay / Long Time". 🔥🔥🔥
Maybe in the future
@@BisscuteReacts Definitely worth a listen. You can thank me later! 😉
Another lovely reaction.
You'd love "A Man I'll Never Be." Enjoy your unfiltered comments and facial expressions.
Thanks I will add to the list right now
There erea created the best bands all over the world
If you haven't already, you must listen to the studio album. It is one of the top selling debut albums in history.

4:07 "79, it's been a while" actually it's been such a longtime. (sorry the joke was there for the taking) Thank you, I hadn't seen this version before.
