"Easy Lover" is a song by Philip Bailey, the lead vocalist of Earth, Wind & Fire, and Phil Collins, the English musician, singer, and songwriter. It was released in 1984 as a single from Bailey's album "Chinese Wall". The song was a huge commercial success, reaching the top of the charts in several countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
"Easy Lover" features a catchy and energetic melody, driven by a prominent drumbeat and strong vocal performances by both Bailey and Collins. The lyrics tell the story of a tumultuous romantic relationship, with the narrator expressing frustration and attraction towards an "easy lover" who keeps them coming back despite the difficulties.
"Easy Lover" remains one of the most well-known and enduring songs from the 1980s, often featured in retro playlists and compilations. It has been covered by numerous artists and continues to be a favorite among fans of pop and rock music. - Видеоклипы
🔥love when phil brought in Phillip earth wind and fire outfit
Legends!!! They compliment each other's voices so much!!!!
I can't believe Corey Roy said that videos weren't that good in the 80s. What?! That's when videos became a thing and launched MTV, as well as the careers of countless bands among many genres of music. Sure, a lot were low budget, but most of the time, the creativeness was there. Videos started to go downhill in the mid-90s and have never been the same. They turned into self-realized idol worship with no meaning(kinda like a lot of 80s metal videos with the band just gyrating on stage).
100% Agree. Michael Jackson's Thriller videos, Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer and Aha's Take on Me are just a couple of incredible videos that came out in the 80's.
Agree 💯👍
Agree, and people wore clothes and knew how to sing...
Look, I was a kid in the 80s and I love watching videos from that time period, but there were some *terrible * videos in the 80s that absolutely crack me up. There were great ones, too, that will always be classics, but let's not pretend that those giggle-worthy ones don't exist.
The 80s is when people made movie music videos! What video does he think is good?
I saw Earth, Wind, and Fire last Saturday. Phillip Bailey still brings it!
Always loved this video.
I love the part when Phil Collins pull out the earth wind and fire costume to wear
Philip Bailey pride of Colorado! 🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
PHIL COLLINS IS A MUSIC LEGEND 🔝
Phillip Bailey was an alumnus of my school, East High School in Denver, CO (graduate of 1969) and he gave our school huge props when he became part of EW&F. He had friends who were a year ahead of me who created a group called The Tender Fore (big time Motown, which was very popular in our school in 1972-) and they would perform at our school assemblies. So, whenever I see a reaction to anything PB, I got to listen. I loved your Reactions, how could they have been anything but positive? I loved this video too, hadn't seen it for about a minute and I mean 1985 when I saw it on MTV. lol Thanks y'all for bringing some memories back to this ol' girl. *Old but not dead* 😄
Young in heart , your soul is you.God bless you.❤
The 80's produced some damn good music.;
That’s Phil on those drums too
Ollie: "Does he (Phil Collins) ever dance?" lol Gotta check out the Genesis video "I Can't Dance."
Wow - some of the very BEST videos in music came out of the 80's. Thriller, Take on Me, Dancing on the Ceiling, ANYTHING by Duran Duran - were ALL very fresh, exciting, and innovating. Love THIS video and song. The Phillips have an amazing bond - and made a great duet.
Agree!👍 that's when MTV was only videos 24/7
Philip Bailey is an amazing vocalist, loved him with Earth Wind and Fire.. Phill Collins❤❤❤
There’s some fascinating history to this song. When Phillip Bailey was looking to do his solo album, someone proposed he have it produced by Phil Collins in London. But Bailey was warned that if the album was “too white,” black radio wouldn’t play it. Collins was a huge Motown fan and had worked with the Earth Wind & Fire horn section on multiple albums, so he jumped at the chance to produce the album.
During the production, the album was nearly done but there was a concern that it didn’t have a great single to release. So Collins, Bailey, and bassist Nathan East wrote this song. Originally, the plan was just to have Bailey sing, but he proposed it be a duet. Collins also played drums on the album, including on this song).
When it came to the release, the record company insisted that Collins appear in the video. At the time, A lot of Black artists had difficulty getting airplay on MTV. But Collins has just had a number 1 hit with Against All Odds, so having him in the video would guarantee heavy airplay.
Ironically, the concerns about the album being “too white” never materialized. Easy Lover peaked at no. 2 on the Hot 100, but also reached no. 3 in the R&B chart and no. 5 on the rock chart. Bailey’s album, Chinese Wall, reached no. 20 on the Hot 200 and no. 10 on the R&B album chart. Bailey also was nominated for a Grammy for best R&B male.
Interesting info! So weird how Radio was so segregated still in the 1980s when that decade was exploding with all sorts of music!
@@xoxxobob61 Radio wasn't that segregated in the 80s. It might've been some people's thinking, but unlike any other era the line between "Black music" and "White music" was pretty blurred.
I love this song!! I remember when it first came out on MTV. Phil is so fun to watch with his silliness. I just saw Genesis when they came on tour a couple years ago, and although Phil still nails the vocals, it was sad to see him having to sit in a chair to do the concert. So many fond memories of his music.
It was a solid collaboration.
Probably the best video I have ever watched.
As far as I know: Phil Collins played the drums on this track , too..
He plays on ALL his songs. And you can always hear is signature drum rolls. 👍🥂
I Love this song❤ These 2 men together is Beautiful. Their voices is 🔥 ❤
Haven't heard this one in forever ❤ it
This has made my day. Thank you for sharing this and 're!finding me how good my 80s were. 👵🇬🇧❤
Absolute banger of a tune. Never seen the video before!
This was the jam!
Now- Phil Collins in 2008 doing In the Air Tonight live is one of the most watched of all time. It’s just a masterpiece! Cant wait to see your reaction- the suspense and buildup!
5:30 An homage to the outfits of “Earth, Wind & Fire”. And don’t forget that on EVERY Phil Collins song (& most GENESIS albums) it’s ALWAYS Phil on drums, at least on original recordings. 👍🥁🥂
Im 61 just moved from Australia to the Philippines. Great memories, great times back in the day ,Redcliffe, North Brisbane Australia.
Congrats on moving to P.I. !
@888jimm Thanks brother
Missed Again by Phil Collins is like the complete pop song, many instruments, catchy, great song.
Totally agree, great song.
Every video & song from the 80s Phil was in won an award!
Have always loved this one!
I love this collaboration. It's a good thing that it came out when I was a kid, though, because if I was older and someone told me Philip Bailey and Phil Collins were releasing a song together, I would have just laughed at them and never listened to it. I don't know why it works, but it does.
The unmistakable BARK of that Gretsch concert tom drum set was heard on so many songs in the 80s. You always knew when Phil was on a track. Robert Plant's "In the Mood" is another prominent track with Phil.
These music videos are like a time capsule for the zeitgeist of the era. I remember the chopper was kinda an 80s icon for hi-tech modernity, that fantasy jetset life, and like a lot things back then, it was sexy. Then we get a contrast with the down to earth goofy commeraderie between the two Phils, it's almost satirical, like they were taking the pee out of the whole music video genre. Love it! ❤
This was my favourite song of '84.
Best track of the eighties.
40 years 🎂 Written by Philip Bailey, Phil Collins and Nathan East. Guitar solo by Daryl Stuermer. East on bass guitar 🎸. Fun 😊 video.
Same year Phil Collins sang and wrote Against All Odds.
Suggested videos 📹: 1 Phil Collins sings Two Hearts 💕 2 Genesis performs Invisible Touch. 3 Earth Wind and Fire 🔥 perform After the Love Is Gone.
"One More Night" It"s also a great song 😊
You guys...do well. Juxtaposition of ages. Got to be DEEP!
This was popular but I remember being puzzled why it wasn't more popular.
Back then there was so much great music that songs got pushed through or a little overlooked.
Picture it, America, Autumn 1984 and playing on the radio "Easy Lover" by Phil Collins and Philip Bailey. Priceless 🤗 ⚾
That breakdown at the end is 🔥🔥🔥
I love this song. I was a freshman in high school when it came out.
Phil Collins also playing drums in music track. Good reaction fun review 👊🏻
Great reaction! Love Phil Collins and Philip Bailey. Both are legends in their own right! This was the perfect fit for both of them to shine! ❤❤❤
This is such a great collaboration ❤their voices ❤ what a great reaction 😊
❤ Phil Collins & Philip Bailey ❤❤
Im guessing u guys will have the music video this time? Im watching ur reaction to this right now.
How did you not laugh when Phil brought out the EWF outfit? Banger song still today
My favorite song by Phil Collins is "I Cannot Believe It's True", and guys it worth a listen.
Oh yeah. I’m 73 and still can’t jam to this song
Always loved this song and video. This Old Heart of Mine video by Rod Stewart and Ron Isley is also a great one
Amazing duo, the album was produced by Phil Collins, and Phil Collins used the Phenix Horns EWF Horns on his album Face Value.
Didn't know he was one of the lead singers for Earth Wind and Fire. Phil's daughter plays on the show Emily in Paris on netflix. Pretty good show. I love Bailey's voice gives you the chills.
Acutally watched Emily in Paris with the wife. It was pretty good! - Fenom202
Legendary....80's were the best 👌 ❤
Miss the relaxed trust we had back then...right now we are so separate as Humans...not sure what you mean about 80s videos as they were actually creative but this one is so for real....plus music to DANCE to was popular in the 80s - where everyone could move to not in separate camps like now..
Today they are touring as Earth,Wind and Fiber 😂
So fun to watch your reactions!😊 Theu sounded so good together!!! Every time this song came on my car stereo back then, I'd turn it up so loud. Brings back such good memories
Don't see duets between two dudes anymore. Hard to do. I'm not Phil Collins fan and never listened to Philip Bailey but this was one of the few songs out the 80s I still like.
Tha cut!
Nice choice to react to .!
It was a monster!
Love it
❤️❤️❤️
They had great chemistry on this song.
Collins churned out many pop hits, Bailey's voice was amazing.
( Check out his singing on "I'll Write a Song For You". IMHO, EW&F's best ballad. )
The "music video"? Godawful is being extremely charitable.
IIRC, Elton John said he hated music videos, specifically being what is the point!?
This one underscores his opinion very well. LoL.
Wow!!
🔥 ❤❤
Loved it. Thanks guys.
Be sure to check out 'Uzi Lover' by Fur Q.
The previous decade they were producing entirely different genres of music - yet, just a few years later they find middle ground in pop.
SRY guys but im a white guy and i love this song.😉
Nice
you should check out GENESIS THREE SIDES LIVE with phill collins, you wont be disepointed
This video is fantastic, always loved this song. Many music videos are excellent from the 80's. MTV was so cool back in the 80's. Stopped watching because of all the stupid reality shows. Watch Phil Collins Land of Confusion video, ao cool, puppets are used.

Bonita la Polera de Led Zeppelin !!!!!
There’s a track on Philip’s album Chinese Wall called Children of the Ghetto. It’s got a more serious vibe than this, but it’s a good song. I think it could have been on an Earth, Wind & Fire album.
Phil Colins in the double breasted suit with his Chuck Taylors!
If more people in the 80s paid attention to the message of this song, perhaps in 2024... there'd be no OnlyFans!?! 🤔😜
The song DID NOT spend 23 weeks at Number one on the Hot 100, please read that again. It peaked at number 2 and spent 23 weeks on the chart. Also, the was nominated but DID NOT win the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by A Duo or Group with Vocals.
Bubblegum pop. But y'all had reservations 'bout Money for Nuthin'???
& I love Phil Xs 2. So...🤷♀️
I loved this song since it came out. That shared, this version of the song seems, to my discerning ear, to be sped up ever so slightly. And it’s not an improvement. i’d rather you guys had reacted to the original release. But thanks anyway.
radio fluff!
great song ,but was never no 1 for 17 weeks
I’ll you guys a couple more chances but the 80’s videos crack?? Not cool!
Philip Bailey got NO credit at the time.
What?? He was already KNOWN as EW&F were popular since the early 70s -This was much later in the mid 80s
Not true. He was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance - Male and the Chinese Wall album was his most successful solo album terms of sales and chart positions.
Peter Gabriel was better than Phil
is this a Peter Gabriel Video ?
I think you may have commented on the wrong video 📹 it's Phil Collins, NOT Peter Gabriel..
Please react to phil collins sussudio video. You'll love it. That's 1 of my favorite phil songs.
What’s going on with the audio? Much higher register than the regular version.
❤❤❤
