Phillip Bailey is a part of the group EARTH, WIND and FIRE who were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2000. You should react to their plethora of HITS!
For me Phillip on "Reasons" (Live version from EW&F's Gratitude album) is the ULTIMATE!!! His trading melodies with the sax player at the end is incredible!!!
It just shows I’m getting old, as the first thing I think of when I hear of Philip Bailey are all of those great album releases from EW&F. Sad that, (I think) Maurice White passed away.
This is still one of my all time favourite songs of all times and the 80’s was my favourite period. phill Collins played the drums on this 👍🏻and the whole album it came from Chinese wall by Philip Bailey
@@patrickmurchison9145 the sax player on Reasons is Don Myrick. He (along with the rest of the Phenix Horns) played with EWF and then later played with Phil Collins. Don is playing the solo on One More Night.
Liked at 777 leaving it at 777 ❤❤❤❤ love this song !!!! I was 15 in 1984. Though the was an old dude back then. Now - wow the TALENT!!!! Rocking song !!!!
PHILLIP BAILEY IS A LEGEND!!!Lead singer of EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE. React to any of their music, and see what a band can do. The feelings they are to produce...romantic, melancholy, mellow, or just plain happy. Music producer David Foster called them one of the best bands to ever make music.
This song is from Philip Bailey's 1984 album Chinese Wall which Phil Collins produced and played drums on. The song is written by Bailey, Collins and basist Nathan East. The guitarrist is Daryl Stuermer who is part of Genesis and Phil Collins live. Collins used to have the Phenix Horns, from Earth Wind and Fire, on most of his solo albums and tours, they also did some horns on Genesis tracks. Collins has also produced and played drums on Frida's (from ABBA) soloalbum Something's Going On. Also drummer /producer of Eric Clapton and Robert Plant... Phil Collins is probably the hardest working musician ever!
I’m 51 and my son is 29!! He grew up listening to all then80’s and 90’s and thanks me every time for subjecting him to the best music ever !! Mom win 🤷🏻♀️😂❤️😊
Like everyone says, Philip Bailey of Earth Wind and Fire is an amazing singer. When Phil brings in the crazy looking outfit in the video as a suggestion of what they wear for the video, and Philip laughs and indicates no way, that is a reference to an EW&F song, September (huge song you actually may have heard). In the video for that, they all wear those kinds of outfits. People are right, you need to hear some of their music. Bailey is not the lead singer for them, but his vocals stand out. Collins was in Genesis from 1970 - 1996 and again off and on in the 2000s. He was solo from 1981 forward, so there are a lot of years where both were very active. Yeah, this video is so fun and a crowd pleaser!
I don’t personally know Phil Collins but just about every interview or behind the scenes and even some of the videos for Genesis, Phil is just goofing around seemingly having a great time! I think he takes his music very seriously but seems to always want to be enjoying it.
you have never heard of Philip Bailey, YOU ARE MISSING OUT, you should check out his album "Chinese Wall" and the track of the same name. Best falsetto in the game. voice sent from heaven.
Love these vocalists. Both Phils are accomplished singers with careers that span decades. Was such a real genius pairing in order to record this song back in 1985. Defz got the vibes of that time & the video brings me back to my late teens. Thanks for the review - enjoyed it immensely :D
Love, love, LOVE this song AND video. So glad that you did BOTH. And both Phil's have the best vocals! Now run - and go watch some Earth Wind and FIRE! Cheers from a fellow Canuck :)
This is Phil, I saw him, I forget where, but the merch had a tie that said, jacuzzi et fabulouso.. it was blue and yellow stripe, and I loved wearing it, 84. Phil has a great sense of humor.
Genesis was my favorite group in the 80s. Saw them in concert two times. But this is probably my favorite Phil Collins song. Genesis really blew up in 86 with their "Invisible Touch" album.
This is such a banger, I have a very vivid memory of this playing on the radio the first time and it was so cool to hear Philip Bailey with Phil Collins. It still rocks.
Great song, and like hundreds of other songs from 80s, the first 30 seconds you heard it on the radio you knew it would be a hit and a memorable tune. Phil Collins was the drummer on this, he’s primarily a drummer at heart and before his solo career he was drummer in supergroup Genesis.
Simple makes for the catchiest sounds seems like. I believe Phil was helping Philip with his album and they wound up writing this song in one night at the end of recording for the album.
When you have the frontman of Genesis and the frontman of Earth , Wind, and Fire working together, you get gold like this. I wish the two Phils would have done a whole album together, but this song was a wonderful experience for sure.
I can only speak from someone who’s seen him in concert; however, I’ve never thought of Phil Collins as a serious personality. In every concert I’ve seen where he’s performed, he is constantly interacting and joking with the audience. You could tell that, while he was on stage, he was really having fun. One concert he even made a joke about the film Deep Throat.
Phil Collins was in Genesis from 1970 through the mid-1990s. He started a solo career in 1981 with the release of Face Value. During the 1980s, he alternated solo and Genesis albums, one of the few artists who remained with a band despite having a big solo career. Between 1980 and 1989, he recorded four Genesis albums, four solo albums, and had several hit songs on movie soundtracks. Easy Lover is not actually on No Jacket Required. It was recorded for Philip Bailey’s Chinese Wall album, which had a bit of an unusual background, which speaks volumes about the racial divide in 1980s music. Phil Collins had used the Earth Wind and Fire horns section on his early solo album and had a hit with his cover of You Can’t Hurry Love. When the idea was floated of having him produce Chinese Wall, Bailey was cautioned about making an album that might be considered “too white” and not played on radio stations that catered to Black listeners. At the same time, there was concern that MTV would not play his videos, because it had a bad track record of airing videos from Black artists. The duet managed to reach all of the audiences, hitting the top-5 on the pop, rock, and urban charts. And by having Phil Collins in the video (which the record label demanded), it received heavy airplay on MTV. One other thing. When you said the song sounded like an 80s soundtrack, one of the reasons is the distinctive “gated” drums. Phil Collins and producer Hugh Padgham created the sound by accident while working on the song Intruder from a Peter Gabriel solo album. Collins then used it on In the Air Tonight and the drum sound was copied by others. It is a staple of 80s music, but fell out of favor in the late-80s, early-90s, when grunge took over the charts.
Thanks for greeting us with another enthusiastic and interesting reaction, as always 🙂. And that song is dope ! With that reaction, I finally subscribed 👍
Hey man! Loved the reaction, I had forgotten how much I love this song and I really related to it at the point I'm at in my life in ways I couldn't before. Tidbit of information: Phil Collins never really left Genesis, he just alternated between solo and band projects during the 80s (Genesis' Invisible Touch came out in '86 I think) Here's a couple requests: Crowded House is one of my favourite bands and I'd love to see you react to something by them: Weather With You, Fall At Your Feet, It's Only Natural, Something So Strong, Don't Dream It's Over...your pick! All Phil Collins music has two drummers playing at the same time. It was the style he preferred because he wanted a unique sound. No Jacket Required is EASILY my favourite of Phi Collins' albums, it SO choice and was basically part of my childhood when it came out. Long Long Way To Go is THE best track on that, featuring Sting guesting on backing vocals which is really cool. You've already done Sussudio, which was THE big anthem from the album, but the biggest hit was definitely One More Night, which became one of Phil's biggest solo singles of all time. Personally I would also highly recommend the album's closing track, Take Me Home, which is a genuine powerhousepiece of work, and it even features an appearance from Phil's former genesis bandmate Peter Gabriel on backing vocals. In general this album is simply all killer, no filler.
I felt the same way with this. There is something between them that is really nice. ("whoever was the drummer".....I just fell off my chair) Dude, that is Phil drumming. And Mr. Collins has a huge sense of humor. Now go watch 'I Wish It Would Rain Down' video. Collins hams it up in a funny way and Eric plays the straight man. Note that all the instruments are acoustic but in the music they are not. Very tongue-in-cheek. ruclips.net/video/YcY3FH208l8/видео.html
