Redbone was an amazing Native American band that traveled around the world! Lolly and Pat Vegas also wrote songs for many artists. Jimmy Hendrix said that Lolly Vegas was one of the best guitar players he'd ever heard! Before Redbone Lolly and Pat Vegas played the clubs on the Sunset Strip!
Jimi himself had Cherokee blood lines from his Mom's side. Jimi encouraged Lolly to form a Native American band as well, and in fact suggested the name Redbone (Lolly's nickname). Great stuff ✌🏽

These funk chords and the dissonant chord mixed with the proper resolution makes it particularly funky. Most 90s rap fans are just soul/funk/rnb heads and like the samples from the 70s.

Grew up watching Midnight Special. Bands/Groups had to bring it because the performances were live. No auto-tune here. They played the instruments and performed without any voice enhancements.
I bought the Midnight Special DVD box set. It brought back memories of my childhood, when my mom would let me stay up and watch this with her. Seeing Wolfman Jack as the MC on this show was classic. This episode is my favorite of this song. You could tell that Lolly was in the zone the way he hit that scat.

Them singing it live was good but the 45 single was happening with some mad beats and funky rhythm back then. I used to be a bartender for a "Cowboy and Indian " bar in New Mexico near Shiprock Rezervation. One older gentleman used to promote shows and knew all the early stars when they were young. He had great Redbone stories. That was a fun job.

I couldn't wait for 1964 when I could get away from my sxtrmely strict parents. Wasn't allowed to date or have friends. Everyone was a bad influence. I left and had to learn all the shit I should have already learned. Hitched across the US and stayed in communes along the way. I have always been in love with Redbone. Since the night I sat 2 inches from the TV to be able to hear them and saw them on The Midnight Special. All of them were awesome.❤❤❤

I couldn't wait for 1964 when I could get away from my sxtrmely strict parents. Wasn't allowed to date or have friends. Everyone was a bad influence. I left and had to learn all the shit I should have already learned. Hitched across the US and stayed in communes along the way. I have always been in love with Redbone.
