Both the KelTec bullpups use a heavy steel receiver to protect the user from cartridge detonations. It is literally one of their selling points of their designs. The RFB chamber is surrounded on the top and sides by two layers of steel. Wish the plastic wasn't trash and basically turned to shrapnel.
The KT plastics are of good quality and totally adequate for the intended purpose. I love a lot of the design work in that Kel-Tec. I just don't like that accessing the bolt is near impossible without disassembly. What if you get a double feed or a really nasty jam? Plus, it's a lot of work to see in there when you are trying to safe the weapon.

For anyone wondering how he has a 300 Blackout AUG, it's a conversion kit available from a small US manufacturer called Heresy Design. Swap the stock barrel for this, load some 300 BO in a mag and you're good to go. No other mods needed. Can be a bit picky to get cycling correctly w/Subsonics, but once dialed in it runs well. Real nice folks that run the company too that'll be glad to work with you if you run into any issues. On a side note, I'm quite glad Scott decided to not destroy the AUG he's got there. However, there's a part of me that is curious now. How well would a 70's design bullpup handle extreme overpressure rounds?
@@AndyAdventuring As it turns out, it can be a challenge. More difficult than typical 300 BO barrel lengths (6-10"). It also will depend on the suppressor that's attached, as some cans will "boost" velocities slightly. Best bet is to try several brands, along with different cans if possible, in order to find the right combo. 220 gr weight is generally subsonic even out of 16" barrels, but again there are other variables. If you have the ability to make your own rounds then you can really tune it well for both proper cycling and subsonic velocities. Note too that the AUG 300 BO setup will usually need the gas on the "full" setting for subs, which is the opposite of most suppressed rifle setups. This has to do with the gas piston being further forward than a normal pistol-length gas setup, requiring the gas to travel forward through the specially designed sleeve (thus reducing overall pressure).
@@AndyAdventuring RELOAD. @@WJS774 I don't see any steel plates, but it's fairly thick right around where the left hand ejection port would go (NATO stock). That and the plastic they use is pretty strong (doesn't flex or feel flimsy, maybe nylon fiber reinforced?). My guess is the thick/strong plastic, the robust BCG + chamber, and the lower possible pressures (compared to the 308 in this vid) all contribute to the lack of any steel plates in the stock.
could still be too flimsy to withstand that .. but i guess the best outcome for this mishap would be to try to design the weapon in a way to direct the exploding parts away from the person handling it (this obviously only works for right hand or left handed shooters exclusively)
Having a polymer as a sort of controlled failure point for the explosive force to dissipate through is kind of an interesting notion, it's definitely a better option than having a completely metal frame get shrapnelized into you lol
I imagine if you were to be wearing a military-grade jacket with thick sleeves, you'd get away with superficial wounds in that scenario. He said your face would be okay. No. You'd lose hearing. You'd have hair singed. You'd probably lose an eye. I noticed the dummy's jaw get slapped sideways when it went off. Things would get damaged, if not from debris, then from the shockwave.
Thanks Scott. I've wondered about that for a while. Definitely, impressive. The zombie got its jaw jacked, but still had the side of its face. I expected something very different. Good stuff👍. @@Lilith-Rose Yeah, which kind of proves that the problem isn't the guns, doesn't it? Even with how much easier it is to get guns in the US, there's _still_ more knife crime than the UK. You could get rid of every single gun in America and even if not _one_ of those murderers would simply use a different weapon instead (which is a totally absurd proposition) the US would still have more violence than the UK. But tell us again how getting rid of guns will fix the problems in the US...
That was an impressive testament to the good engineering of this gun. All that energy has to go somewhere and I'd certainly rather lose a hand instead of my throat and eyes.
While no shrapnel hit the face, considering what we saw on the slow-mo cam, I'd think that the shockwave from the blast would do some hefty damage. Concussion, at least.
Rather, the metal receiver would jump upwards, producing an effect comparable to a good punch in the jaw. I mean it's definitely unpleasant but miles better than the rifle exploding in your face like we seen with some other products in this series.
9:25 I think the worst scenario possible would've been to have a full magazine as the explosion probably would've set off a chain reaction. Though I'm no gun expert.
I had a great friend that passed away and he made a Weapon that I want to see you make. He ordered through the mail a replica German 42 tripod machine gun. Then we bought a 44 magnum Ruger rifle and broke the stock off into the trash. He stuck the barrel and guts of the 44 into the 42 mm and it bolted right up with a couple adjustments. Then we went to Williams Gun Range and I set up the tripod and Machine Gun and a police officer stepped up . I have to see the paperwork on this 👮 Tom whipped it out. Officer was loving it. Tom let him shoot it. It was incredibly accurate. Lot's of break-ins in his area so he bought this very scary weapon. This was in the 90's
To me keltech has some pretty ingenious engineering in its designs but the way they execute that is engineering isn’t the most pretty designs ever, but hey would you rather have no gun or an ugly gun right? Great stuff Scott love to see it 👍
People give Keltec a lot of crap for making not-fancy guns. That doesn't mean they make crappy guns. "Simple, durable and cheap" is a reliable customer demographic... as long as you don't screw them over with a flop. Snobs, on the other hand, will often excuse their brand of choice for making a flop "because they're so cutting edge that sooner or later something will end up in production that could only have been caught with 10 years of field testing".
After your accident the fact that you can do this is great honestly. I wouldn’t have the plums to normally do it lol. On a serious note as silly as these videos can be they are educational in a way. Big props to you sir.
Kudos to Kel-Tec on that rifle. As you said, it looks like your vitals would be fine and mostly at worst you'd have some injuries to your arm (which likely wouldn't be TOO serious unless the full pressure of the blast was right up on your flesh).

I think about it a lot. It's actually kinda nice to see how well this one did.
He said your face would be okay.
No. You'd lose hearing. You'd have hair singed. You'd probably lose an eye. I noticed the dummy's jaw get slapped sideways when it went off. Things would get damaged, if not from debris, then from the shockwave.
Always fun with guns. Thank you Scott for keeping everything real.
Thanks Scott. I've wondered about that for a while.
Definitely, impressive. The zombie got its jaw jacked, but still had the side of its face. I expected something very different.
Good stuff👍. You have eased my concern over being "cheek to cheek" with a bullpup.
Table chucking should become an Olympic sport.
2:11 that is one of the most calming and relaxing sounds known to man i could listen to it all day. 😁😎💯
got a nice rhythym to it
11:09 is good too
One of my competition rifles is a Uberti Highwall in 45/70. I use smokeless hand load reduced from normal hunting loads and Black Powder loads. So you asked what to BLOW UP next, there ya go, and thanks for all of the great videos.
Love watching these from the UK get to see all the stuff we miss out on
Dude, there's a reason we have extremely few guns in the UK.
Let's enjoy them from a safe distance.👌🏿
@@V4Nowyeah, and soon you'll have very few knives and clubs also.
@@mikewhitman745*Laughs in Getting Glassed in London*
@@rvanhees89still more knife crime per capita in the states than in the uk
I don’t know why I always hit the like button before I watch the video. You have drilled it into my subconscious Scott!!!….its always good
your intros are the best for any gun channels..... by far! love it
9:25 I think the worst scenario possible would've been to have a full magazine as the explosion probably would've set off a chain reaction. Though I'm no gun expert.
At 2:40 a whole bunch of acorns fell on Scott's beetle
I wish I could like this a 1000 times
he is a former cop isn’t he?
Tactical assault squirrels at it again.
But he didn't do the 3 tactical rolls? Shots fired, My legs, I can't feel my legs.. LMFA0
I was a french soldier, the Keltech RFB 308 is very similar to the FAMAS. Thans Scott for your great work.👍😎 See you next time bro.👋🌞
I think you just gave Ian McCollum acid reflux! Gun Jesus LOVES French firearms.
@fabienmargerie6815 While it does have some visual similarities, the action itself is based on the FAL. I even uses metric pattern FAL magazines.
Damn Keltec. Cheap and well designed in case of catastrophic failure. Nice.
For science, have you ever wondered which muzzle break will cook a hotdog best?
Well now I did...
Muzzle brake, not break.
Demolition ranch did it with suppressors, I dont know if that tickles your fancy, but it exists
Didn't FPS Russia do something like that? I know some gun tubers have made breakfast on AKs before. Bacon, eggs, etc
For science!!!!!!
you should've used that mayo for a round of Kentucky roulette 😂
That's gross and I'm here for it! Take my like
@6:05 - everyone was expecting the nuclear blast; Scott gave us the gas-attack instead.
😂
Nice! I love the "When Guns Go Boom" series.
An MG42 is about $250k.
To me keltech has some pretty ingenious engineering in its designs but the way they execute that is engineering isn’t the most pretty designs ever, but hey would you rather have no gun or an ugly gun right? Great stuff Scott love to see it 👍
The intros are epic every time Scott 👌 keep em coming 😎
👏👏👏👏👏this was a good video. Wasn't expecting it to hold together so well.
KelTec actually makes some really good guns.
2:08 scott: that is awesome
2:11 me: yes indeed. rifle seems fine as well.
Dafuq
That assault knife at the beginning was sick.
Ban "Assault Knives"
The first 2 seconds of the video are like strait out of a cartoon. The way your jumping around with the mower is gold lol
New respect for keltec unlocked 🔓
Please could you do a video on a Lee Enfield? (Not guns go boom)
@@andersjjensen Thanks for the insight 🤠👍
It's not a .600 nitro express revolver...but it'll do for now
After your accident the fact that you can do this is great honestly. I wouldn’t have the plums to normally do it lol. On a serious note as silly as these videos can be they are educational in a way. Big props to you sir.
Thank you for being safe and setting an example for others to follow
I got poupon my mower!
He got poupon his boots!
I wish Scott could direct The Walking Dead for a season.
Thank you for not destroying that AUG. That is a very slick rifle.
This is really good information to know, both for the users and the manufacturers.
That was AUG-some 😂
fail test an atomic bomb :D
2:16 cutest thing i've seen in my life 🥺
11:11 Thats what SHE said 😏♥️
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
It’s sad to see an RFB get destroyed but at least it wasn’t the AUG that would’ve been heartbreaking for me to watch
Kudos to Kel-Tec on that rifle. As you said, it looks like your vitals would be fine and mostly at worst you'd have some injuries to your arm (which likely wouldn't be TOO serious unless the full pressure of the blast was right up on your flesh).
Man, seeing these kinds of videos for science's sake is fascinating! nice work
back in 1997 we was on a live fire exercise in kuwait,we used the SA80 5.56 bullpup rifle,we also had the light support version of it(called the LSW),well i saw my friends head get a hit (puff of grey smoke) and after checking he was ok we found a round had exploded in the chamber and distorted the housing of his LSW,he said it was like getting kicked in the face during a fight,he took it like a champ bless him
Damn, those some nice guns you got.
The Amount of Flex they can handle is impressive.
You simply are Built Different.
Been watching KENTUCKY BALLISTICS from the beginning. Love to see AR style rifles and suppressors, bigger caliber the better ! My wife loves the T. rex and scooter vidjas . 🇺🇸
Wow, that's 20 seconds of my life I will never get back. Nothing but silliness.
It’s amazing that you were able to find a new original to you, theme to your channel by just one life threatening accident. A blessing in disguise, well not really but kinda.
I love your videos. A lot of people are buying these C&R rifles because they are cheap and making a ton of mods to them (mosin). I would say more than half of the people who purchase these do not remove all the cosmoline and never check head spacing. Ide like to see a video on a C&R with bad head spacing.
Thank you
2:52 "you survived another video!" I like to imagine in some alternate horror universe, this is the viewpoint of some person Scott has kidnapped and tied up and uses as some kind of test subject for his "videos", which are really just schizophrenic hallucinations. It's a cinematic universe just waiting to be made 😂
I own one very heavy gun. Always wondered about this. Tuned properly runs pretty flawless bought it cuz I liked the idea I didn't eject hot brass for use in confined spaces
Well, that's conclusive. A 2 foot pipe wrench is far more lethal than an exploding KelTec...
The barrel not bulging overgassed and squibbed speaks for the engineering! It’s not the super sturdy barrel, but well calculated emergency weakspots guiding the pressure in less harmful ways.
Love the video Scott, you never fail to make me laugh!
Impressive wrench use at the end. Scott's response to finding his camera is my response to his new videos.
"Let me see if I can hit my truck with this, like a big frisbee."
*regrets his decision immediately*
Had a good laugh 😅
Somewhere in Kentucky, a wildcatter is wondering where his wrench went... Scott really wallopped that table with that four foot wrench!
Love your videos man. I never thought anything could make guns cooler but then I stumbled across your channel!
I was in the Australian infantry and we used to use these riffles they where called the f88 austeyr it was 5.56x45mm round.I loved it because of its Lite weight and short length design.
6:06 even Scott's bumhole was nervous 😂
I just recently discovered your channel and definitely enjoy the content bro 👊 when I heard about your accident I went back n watched the videos on it and WOW all I can say is thank god for your dad your quick response a above all thank god🙏 because I definitely believe he was there for you! And people don’t believe in miracles 🙄 I’m glad you’re doing good and back to 💯 % bro🤙
Wow that like, really munched up that Gnome really well. That was awesome
