- This shows the removal and replacement of rear shocks on a 1991 Ford Mustang GT. This should be applicable to 1987-1993 Ford Mustang (GTs only have the side kicker shocks).
I gotta give you credit for thinking outside the box and using what you have to get the job done. I've never seen anyone use a jack to break a bolt lose and I've been around a long time and seen people do some off the wall crazy things to get something done, and I don't believe they would have thought of that. Good job bro. Most people would have snapped the bolt off or stripped it by using a air wrench before breaking the bolt lose with a breaker bar, or in your case an adjustable wrench and a jack. Lol
I have a 91 lx and mine has a torque bolt, and it going in parallel to the tire, unlike how yours is going towards tire. So if anyone else has this, I'll save you some time, you will need to purchase a t-55 socket, but other than that, great great video.
@Lotus_mustang badass jack/monkey wrench trick
The struggle is real …
Is it really this easy? It looks like just changing a flat tire...
Yes there are a few companies that sell torque box reinforcements. I suggest Wild Rides because I have torn mine off completely a while back and used their replacement torque boxes and man is that quality stuff I have no issues at all anymore!
Torque boxes are where the control arms attach onto the the body. Uppers are by the rear seat and the lowers are by the rear wheels.
You do need them if you are going to be launching hard. It doesn't only help with wheel hop it also helps prevent torque box damage. I took mine out to run some 275 Nitto 05R on my 17x10's and well one of my torque boxes ripped completely off my body it had the upper control arm hanging with the torque box. Long story short I paid ~$800 to replace my torque boxes with the wild rides kit. I would highly suggest to either reinforce the stock ones or completely replace them like I did.
bought his wrenches from SEARS, good choice, im doind my shocks soon, great video
Thanks for these videos, I plan on doing rear shocks on my '89 soon. If you get around to doing a rear brake video that would be great too!
si si. i got that. i watched the whole video finally lolol. and what i ripped off were the axle dampeners. i was told they sell kits to bolt on the torque boxes. any tips on that?
actually the Quad Shocks aka side kickers shock as you call em were first on the 84 svo then on the 85 gt an up possibly even on the 84 gt , my 85gt has got em
the tire shop can use wheel weights on the inside of the rim so the outside one wont scare up the rims anyhow I talk to much thanks for the video!!!
where did you get your new axel dampeners from?
What about the top bolt ?
im about to rip my rear shocks out to fit my 17X10's. i understand you dont need them. is that true?
i mean..i still have my shocks on, its those small black arms that i ripped off. are we talking about the same thing?
Pretty sure you used wrong shock for the axle dampener
No subframes just help with body-roll. Torque boxes mess up when you catch traction and the rearend wants to go back pulling on the control arms which pull the torque box they are bolted to. I have over 500rwhp now the new torque boxes take the beating easily.
I do have raw video for the rear brake job; just haven't had time to edit it.
Lotus_Mustangs what brand are the shocks and quad shocks? How great are they?
do sub frame connectors help along with the torque boxes? i already ripped them off, would like to know, because i have about 400 horses at the wheel.
Smh 🤦🏻♂️
Some people shouldn't make you tube videos.
It should be called "How to strip bolts on your Mustang". I can't look any further.
This is cringe worthy …glad he’s got a sears tool set 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s a fucking ziptie!!!! Smh 🤦🏻♂️
