Choosing a desk light required a bit of consideration.I wanted a nice illuminating desk lamp, without taking up too much desk space. Naturally, a monitor screen bar fits the bill, sitting on top of the monitor away from everything else. Here I review why I chose the Xiaomi LED Screen Bar, Monitor Light with a wireless controller. It was between this and the BENQ ScreenBar plus, and I chose this product due to its functionality features, price, and just general availability at the time.

This quick review WAS helpful, Thanks!
exactly what i was looking for, thanks for the informative video!
Thanks for sharing the concept of using the 3M. Now I can put my screen bar in the center
Dude, you packed so much of useful into a 3 minute video, you should start a review courses! thanks for the great review
Appreciate it.
No clutter on the desk and no clutter in the video, very nice and imformative thanks
Thank you for finding this light, I just got mine yesterday . I Had the opposite problem you had, MSI curved monitors are really thin, but i was able to overcome that. looks good works great .Thank you again.
Glad i can help!
How is it after months of use?
@@tristanyt319 it s a little flaky it connection is not as good as it could be flickers a lot especially when you try to adjust the light from white to yellow hue or increasing brightness but I still think its worth it to the alternative Benq pricey one
Thank you for the compact review.
Awesome quality ! Subscribed
Nice video and content. Waiting the new ones already, hope this channel find its way.
I really enjoy your content bud. Well done videos.
Thanks 🙏🏼 much appreciated. 🎩
I bought mine a couple months back and I love it. LITERALLY THE ONLY SCREENBAR THAT OFFERS A WIRELESS PUCK!!! Plus it comes in at like $40-$50 cheaper than the BenQ Screenbar Plus. It was hard as hell to find though in US though. Took me longer to find it online than to actually have it shipped to me once I did lol Got lucky with an eBay listing. Literally the only one that existed on the entire site at the time. LUCKY👌🏾🤣
Alibaba exists
I love this lamp!
nice review mate
Really nice review! I have the same screenbar with the BenQ EX2780Q monitor and I had one issue with it. This monitor is edgeless so the screenbar clings onto the very top of the screen itself, putting some pressure on it and you can see whitened areas on the screen (like when you press the screen with your fingers). But I used the same trick with the sticking pads as you so now it's perfect! Thanks for the tip! :)
I am doing the same now, thanks
I got it a few days ago. It's one of those few products you really love. So happy, and this kind of lamp is just perfect, incredible practical. We have had xiaomi phones since 2015 plus a bunch of lamps, wifi bulbs, ear buds, power banks. Not one disappoint xiaomi so far. Buy one.
Thanks. I have same monitor Dell u3818dw and was wondering will this xiaomi lamp fit.
Nice trick with sticking pads!
The Yeelight Monitor Light Pro seems like another good option.
Thanks for the review. I’m getting this right away my eyes hurt :(
Appreciate that 3M sticker tip! How long did the lightbar take to arrive to Toronto from Ali Express?
Hi! I was curious about the 3M sticking pad solution at 1:53. I bought this lightbar and encountered the same problem as you, and a stickpad pad seems to have solved it.
I just wanna ask, how was it? did you use it with that solution for a long time? did the sticker ever fall out, or did it really secure the light bar?
How is the glare on the curved monitor? Aren't some spots exposed to the lights due to the curve?
How does the straight light bar work with the curvature of your screen?
hi qq, does it remembers the last state? i.e if it was on when I unplug it from the power will it turn back on when I plug it back?
In China this is about 1/5 the price of BenQ screen bar plus. I actually bought all 3 from xiaomi benQ and yeelight and ended up keeping this one! :)
what made you pick this one over the yeelight one? AFAIK that one has more features than this one. Also can you comment on which one has the best light quality? Some cheaper light bars have a greenish tint on the warmer settings.
@@ElijahLeung sure BenQ has more concentrated light but in actual use it's indiscernible. Xiaomi light is just as good and bright and remote is completely wireless! This light has negated most of my eye strain, and I can't be happier, and 1/5 of price doesn't hurt.
@@ElijahLeung And obviously, the BenQ one has higher quality and some extra features. But Xiaomi is around 70 - 80% there
How does the remote feel? Does it feel cheap or high quality?
@@imhaydenmelrose felt as good as BenQ
Can the light be angled so that it can also be used for video calls?
Do these work on for a PS4 because I use a curved monitor with my PS4 and idk if it will work?
How do you like it after a few weeks? Is the light harsh at all when you angle it a little away from the monitor? I purchased a budget model at first and thats what I experienced. When I would angle the light towards the edge of my desk towards me I would see harsh spots and some of the individual LED's. I upgraded to the BenQ and did not experience this. They either use a better diffuser or different type of light. The BenQ unfortunately doesn't dim that low. I would also prefer the wireless controller and 50% + savings.
I generally have at a lower dim brightness setting. I don’t find it harsh even at a higher brightness, but it could be different for everyone. The light is diffused though.
You should consider the Basseus screen bar. Quite cheap and it feels premium. The knob at the end of it does make it a bit minimalistic in my opinion.
Totally agreed, I'm using it for my setup,
is this the 1s newer version or the older one?
I have this light and the controller stopped working. I am not sure if it just broke or if it lost connection to the light. Anyone else experience this and if so, were you able to fix it? I don't see any button to reset the connection to the light from the controller.
How is the light holding up? I have a curved screen. does the 3m tape hold it sturdy and firm? Please let me know what mods u have done other than what shown in the vid
Yes it’s has not been a problem. The weight isn’t an issue because it’s counter balanced. Also 3M tapes are pretty reliable.
CRI of Xiaomi product is RA90 or RA95? Great review. Thanks
thanks 🙏🏻 According to the website it’s RA95, but I don’t have a light meter to confirm. 👍🏼
is it better than the benq?
Awesome video, what I need to know though is: does the light have an automatic dimming function like the BenQ?
It does not unfortunately
Cool
How do you deal if you want to put a webcam?
Does it affect the colour of your screen when you are colour grading in premiere pro?
The light is more or less pointed away from the screen, I don’t it affect the visual field. But I am not a colorist by any means. My colors are probably off most times 😅
With the warm white. Does it have the same brightness and dimming radius as the bright white?
yes it does
Nice
Hi, I hope you are doing well :) I have the same problem with my monitor. What product from 3m did you use exactly? I cannot find it.
Honestly anything with a bit of thickness will do. I believe something like a furniture pad is what I used, except rectangular.
Nice video! My only question is: How does the remote feel? Does it feel solid and high quality or kind of cheap?
I would say it is more solid than it looks. It had a matte almost rubber smooth feel. So a step above plastic but not as solid as say aluminum.
@@DNChromatic I appreciate it!
well I've bought it and now I wonder if I can make it a bit brighter)) It seems a bit dim on its maximum brightness
That’s too bad. Not sure you can make it brighter than max.
what 3m foam pads did you use? link plz
I am uncertain of the exact model, but any foam sticky pads would work. I added two on top of each other to give extra height.
Hey man, love the 3m sticker trick! I was gonna mount something on the centre of my monitor to get around the monitor thickness. Which 3m strip did you use?
Something like this would be sufficient, keep in mind I doubled up. You can double or triple it to give it height www.amazon.com/dp/B0833W1S6P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_YG94KRAW2D10CJH84NF7
@@DNChromaticthank you for the link!
What kind of sticky pad did you use.. I am going to order the BENQ and try it because my monitor is 2 inches thick.
Just any foam sticky pads that have a bit of thickness. Even those furniture pads for chair bottoms would work nicely.
Kinda stupid how little subs u have. add 2 extra 0s behind that 227. loving the content.
I was thinking the same thing. so i subbed. this is pretty good content
Thanks, still just getting started. Hopefully time will tell.
I like your leather looking desk pad. Where did you get that from?
Amazon, I should have it listed here kit.co/dnchromatic. However this specific size seems hard to find now.
Thanks!
I just can't put back the battery cover, no matter how I turn it. Any tips?
It does get stuck sometimes, need a bit of wiggle and make sure you are pushing down
hi! do you know how to disable this thing from turning on automatically?
I’m not sure, mine does not turn automatically.
Are there sections that get glare because of the curve of the monitor?
no light does not hit the monitor
Is it possible to flip the light bar to the rear? For those situations that you want backlighting to your wall?
No it does not rotate that far. I should’ve included it only has about 30 degrees of swivel.
@@DNChromatic Thanks!
Does anyone know if it's possible to link two lightbars to one wireless controller?
yeah they have it mentioned in the manual
What if I have very narrow monitor bezels, is it gonna work? I don`t want it to damage the matrix.
The mount will most likely touch the screen , someone mentioned this in comments earlier, they also used the sticky pad method to add more height so that it won’t make contact.
@@DNChromatic thanks
Is using a clamping light bar like this harmful for a monitor long term? I'm concerned about the pressure on the upper side of the screen OTL
Another reason why I clamp it on a sticky pad. I probably wouldn’t want to clamp it on a screen either. The idea is that most monitors have enough of a bezel that it wouldn’t touch the screen. Otherwise it is very light pressure 👍🏼
@@DNChromatic Well, my new monitor just delivered today and I've realized that there's so little to none top bezel on the monitor( Gigabyte M27Q )
Guess I gotta find myself some sticky pad as well 😂 ( the panel is quite thin though, so I'm not that sure if it'll works )
Can you turn on the light without the remote?
No there are no other switches.
Is it wider or shorter than the BenQ?
They are pretty much the same width.
How long is the battery life on the wireless controller?
so far it’s been almost three months and still going 👍🏼
@@DNChromatic Great to hear! Got mine today, and even though it has to sit off center because of the design of my monitor, I love it!
does it reflects on the screen?
It does not, points away from the screen. 👍🏼
What’s the arm you’re using to hold your laptop?
It’s a very standard VIVO arm, I added a VESA laptop tray to it. You can find a link on my Kit.co in the description.
@@DNChromatic thanks for the reply!
Can I just put multiple layers of some tape on my curved monitor instead of the 3m tape?
I’m not sure, it needs some thickness for it to latch on.
@@DNChromatic I think like 3 or some layers will work
@@canndu alright I got the light bar but I didn't need any tape or stuff, my monitor is actually very fat and curvy but the bar still is steady on it, my monitor is the dell S3221QS if you wanna reference it to your monitor, overall it's pretty great.
Is the controller metal or plastic?
It is a plastic material with a matte finish. Feels solid, and heavy.
I'm really having second thoughts about buying this screenbar from xiaomi. I sold my baseus because it worsens the eye-strain. I even made an honest review on my channel.
I’m sure I’ve watched this before
Mine has a weird issue - turning up the maximum brightness will change to warm white - anyone else having this issue.
I have not seen that.
Just me or is the Xiaomi too bright at the dimmest setting? I feel like putting some diffusion haha
Yes it’s doesn’t get very dim.
for the US its called th MI Monitor Light Bar and it cost $80.
I just got mine for $45 from Walmart
@@ogreeni yep they must have reduced the price. Because I know it's never been $143 regular price. LOL
@@albertocabrera6614 Yeah I was honestly baffled by the original price
Excelllent review. I bought this given its 1/3 price of BenQ AND remote is wireless, also knowing the mount has issues with thick monitors.
I hacked it by removing the counterweight - look at what appears to be a thick black pin holding the counterweight and usb/lamp holder together. The black bits are just plastic caps which can be removed with tweezers. Behind these caps is a thinner silver pin. Using a longish pokey thing (technical term) such as an unfolded paper clip, push the pin all the way out. This will detach the counterweight.
I used heavy duty Velcro (with 3M sticky backs) to hold the lamp holder to top of monitor - rock solid like that, and means the lamp holder can lie flat on top of monitor to angle the light correctly.
Another alternative if you want to keep the counterweight is to detahc it, snip off the small metal stopper and springs that limit the range the assembly can open, then put back the counterweight and reinsert the silver pin
Can I put a webcam on it?
I have not tried , as I don’t use webcams u fortunately.
there is pro version that has RGB on the opposite side
Awesome. Looks interesting
My set became faulty after 8 months of usage...
I’ll keep that in mind once 8 months hit
The design is poor. Disappointing for a Xiaomi product. The light isn't directed well and reflects on the sides of the light and screen. The light holder covers any center-mounted camera. I had to cut the bracket to use with my Apple Studio monitor.
Magnets on your monitor amazing idea
