I have a plan to do another one, using OCR and an emulator to speed up the entry process. I was hoping to have done a couple more ORICtober videos by now... must try harder next year!!
@@ChrissRetroCorner oh yes good plan, I will try this as well using games from old magazines 👍🏽 They take time to do of course and October is soon done.. hoping to do a couple more before end of the week (when I get back from holiday!)
@@6502Nerd RetroCombs here on YT, did a smashing video in April this year, about OCR>vintage hardware, so very keen on trying this with my Oric. I only have 2/3 mag listings from way back, I'd love to try this on them too . (The print quality and paper was pretty terrible back then, so I'm sure a fair bit of correction would still be needed!). Enjoy the rest of your holiday and I'll look out for the rest of your series!!
Well that was a whole mess of fun, Chris. Loved the integration of Audacity to save the program. I don't think I've ever typed a program over 10 lines and gotten correct the first time! 😂The ORIC keyboard sound is awesome. Is it actually registering a sound from the speaker or is that sound the hardware?
@retrocombs Thanks so much Steven!!🙏😊 I'd forgotten how invested you get, with a type in and loved every minute of it! Yes.. the keyboard sound is awesome! It's 'blipping' with each keypress, through the internal speaker. I thought it might get a little irritating after a while, but actually, the reverse it true, I really like it! The Enter key has a lower tone also... curious, but a nice touch. 😊 I'm hoping to have a go an another one tomorrow. You may find the method somewhat familiar...! (Of it all works of course!😅)
Hi there Otto! Yes, I was pleasantly surprised! Very enjoyable and I keep going back to it too, well worth the typing and debugging. Yes, perhaps I should alter with the input keys to gain better control...!! 😊👍
I always enjoy your videos Chris, i\m curious, was it not possible to edit the mistakes? it seems you had to re-enter the lines from scratch. Please do another video about "quack attack" :-) That would be cool :-)
Thanks so much, that's very kind!! I have very limited experience with the Oric and I have tried using the cursor keys to move and edit a line just before filming and it didn't seem to like it, generating syntax errors. I'll refer to the user manual for a proper answer, but it did seem not, no. Quack Attack... hmm... I think that's doable! 😊👍
You can certainly list a line, but cursoring and editing that line always results in a syntax error. I did skim the user manual and the index too, but I think the answer lays in slightly deeper investigation! 😊
@@ChrissRetroCorner It's great to see the Oric Atmos in action. Fabulous machine. You can, of course, edit lines. You would enter EDIT xxxx and the line would display (I think with the cursor in the first character position, but move the cursor there if I'm wrong). To copy a character, press CRTL-A and it will copy whatever is under the cursor into the input buffer. Repeat this until you reach the area of correction (you can hold CTRL-A down and it will automatically move along until you release). If you need to ignore a character, move the cursor past it and continue with CTRL-A. If you need to add a character move the cursor up a line (or 2) and type it in, then move the cursor back to the position you left from and continue copying. You must press return at the end as well. Once you have done it a few times it will be easy enough. The added benefit is that you can copy any text that is under the cursor so you can pull characters from any position, even from different lines. Downside is that you can't see what you are doing and need to remember where you are and can't always tell if you are hitting the 80 character line input limit (I think it pings when you are close, though). Enjoy typing in those "games" and correcting the typo's 🤓
Nice video but there is no need to re-type the line to correct an error. You can call back the line and use the editor arrow to point to the characters to be changed.
Many thanks for watching and your comment! 😊 I did experiment a little bit before filming and although I could recall the line, cursor to a point and edit, it wouldn't keep the edit I made. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong still. 😊
dunno why I enjoyed watching you type this in and debug it for 25 mins! Great fun though, keep em coming :)
I'm not too sure either... :?o but I greatly appreciate your encouragement!! Thanks David!!
REALLY GOOD VIDEO AGAIN CHRIS ABSALOUTLY SMASHED IT THUMBS UP!
Cheers for that! 😎 Greatly appreciate your support! 🙏😊
Nice one! I have this book but hadn't got around to typing any of the games in!

The game is pretty decent for a type in! I guess switching the cursor keys around would make it a lot easier.

Wondered that myself. Can you LIST the line and then edit?
